Rejected Luna's Justice

The annual Pack Unity Ceremony was always a spectacle of power and tradition. Tonight, hundreds of wolves from allied territories filled our grand ceremonial grounds, their eyes reflecting the flickering torchlight as they watched Dominic and me take our places on the raised platform. I smoothed down my ceremonial Luna gown, the silver embroidery catching the light as I moved. Dominic stood tall beside me, his alpha presence commanding attention as always. But something felt wrong. His scent carried traces of anger, of determination that made my wolf stir uneasily within me. "Katherine," he whispered, his voice strangely formal. "Tonight will change everything." Before I could respond, he stepped forward, raising his hand for silence. The crowd quieted instantly, hundreds of eyes fixed on their Alpha. "Members of Silvermoon Pack and honored allies," Dominic's voice carried across the grounds, strong and clear.

Rejected Luna's Justice Chapter 1

"Tonight will change everything."

Before I could respond, he stepped forward, raising his hand for silence. The crowd quieted instantly, hundreds of eyes fixed on their Alpha.

"Members of Silvermoon Pack and honored allies," Dominic's voice carried across the grounds, strong and clear. "I've called this ceremony to address a matter of grave importance."

My heart began to race as he turned to face me directly. This wasn't part of our planned ceremony.

"For years," he continued, "I've stood beside Katherine Greene as your Alpha and Luna. But tonight, that ends."

The crowd murmured in confusion. I reached for him, my fingers brushing his arm. "Dominic, what are you doing?"

He jerked away from my touch, his eyes hardening as he looked down at me.

"I, Dominic Howard, Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack," he began, his voice taking on the formal cadence of ancient pack law, "reject you, Katherine Greene, as my mate and Luna."

The words hit me like physical blows. Each syllable sent waves of supernatural pain through my body as our mate bond began to tear.

"You have suppressed my alpha authority and dignity," he continued, his voice cold and commanding. "You have made yourself the true power while reducing me to your shadow."

Gasps rippled through the assembly. My wolf howled in agony inside my mind as the sacred bond between us began to shatter.

"No," I whispered, reaching for him again. "Dominic, please—"

"The pack has witnessed my strength," he declared, ignoring my plea. "And now they will witness my true choice."

From the crowd, a figure stepped forward—Isla Collins, her young face radiant with triumph as she approached the platform. My stomach twisted as I recognized my own Luna jewelry adorning her neck and wrists.

"Isla Collins," Dominic announced, taking her hand, "is my chosen mate."

The crowd erupted in shocked whispers. My vision blurred with tears as Isla's scent—vanilla and something artificially sweet—reached me.

"I have evidence," Dominic continued, his voice cutting through the noise, "that Katherine has betrayed not only me, but our entire pack."

He nodded to a warrior who stepped forward with a tablet, projecting images onto a screen behind us. Photos of me with other wolves—taken out of context, manipulated to appear intimate.

"These show Katherine's forbidden relationships with rival pack members," Dominic lied, his voice thick with false accusation.

My wolf clawed desperately inside me, trying to defend our honor, but the pain of the rejection was overwhelming. I opened my mouth to speak, to defend myself, but Dominic's alpha tone silenced me.

"You will not speak," he commanded. "The pack will witness your shame."

The supernatural force of his order crushed down on me, stealing my voice as waves of agony pulsed through my body. I felt something warm trickling down my legs and looked down in horror.

Blood. So much blood.

"Our pup," I whispered, the words barely audible as I clutched my abdomen.

The pain intensified, sharp and tearing. I stumbled forward, reaching toward Dominic. "Our pup... please..."

His eyes widened for a moment—had he not known? But then his expression hardened again.

"Remove her," he ordered, turning away from me.

Two warriors stepped forward, grabbing my arms as I collapsed to my knees. More blood soaked through my ceremonial gown, spreading across the platform.

"Katherine!" Madilyn's voice cut through the chaos as she pushed through the crowd. "Let her go!"

But Dominic's command held power. The warriors dragged me toward the edge of the platform, my body limp with pain and shock.

"She's losing the pup!" Madilyn shouted, her Beta authority ringing out. "Healer! We need a healer!"

Some wolves in the crowd looked away in discomfort. Others whispered accusations, believing Dominic's lies. And through it all, Isla stood beside him, her hand possessively on his arm, wearing my jewels.

"The Luna has betrayed us all," someone said.

"No," I tried to respond, but only blood came from my lips as darkness crept into the edges of my vision.

The last thing I saw was Dominic turning his back on me completely, his arm around Isla's waist as he addressed the pack once more. And then, nothing but darkness and the echo of my wolf's dying howl.

The pack run had been Marcelo's idea. He'd announced it three days prior at the weekly council meeting, his Alpha tone leaving no room for debate. A show of unity, he'd called it. A reminder that the Black Moon Pack moved as one body, one purpose. I'd watched him from my seat at the far end of the table—the Luna's chair, though I'd stopped feeling like a Luna months ago—and said nothing. Petra Voss had nodded approvingly. The other council members had murmured their agreement. Rosalina, seated closer to Marcelo than protocol allowed, had smiled that soft, adoring smile she always wore around him. I should have known then. The territory's northern river was swollen from early spring melt, the current fast and mean.

At six in the morning, the penthouse was a hush of pale gray light. The marble under my bare feet was cold. I sat on the edge of the bathtub with the test stick in my hand and watched the second pink line darken until there was no more pretending. Eight weeks. Maybe nine. My thumb found the inside of my left wrist and pressed there. A small habit. A way to hold myself in one piece. I did it without thinking, the way some people pray. I looked up at the mirror across from me.
