Fiancé's Affair Unveiled at Our Wedding Chapter 1

The evening before my wedding should have been filled with excitement and anticipation. Instead, as I pushed open the heavy oak doors of the Hughes mansion, my heart hammered against my ribs with a strange sense of foreboding.

"Holden?" I called out, my voice echoing through the cavernous foyer. "I'm here to finalize the flower arrangements for tomorrow."

Silence greeted me. The housekeeper had stepped out, and the usual bustle of wedding preparations was nowhere to be seen. Something felt wrong.

I made my way upstairs, the familiar path to Holden's bedroom feeling suddenly foreign under my feet. The door was slightly ajar, and I heard hushed voices from within.

"I can't wait until tomorrow," a female voice purred—Elise's voice. "Once we're married, everything will be perfect."

My steps faltered. Married? Tomorrow?

I pushed the door open wider, and the world stopped spinning.

Holden stood by his bed, his shirt unbuttoned, his hair disheveled. Elise was pressed against him, her legs wrapped around his waist, her bodyguard uniform unbuttoned to reveal smooth skin beneath.

They didn't even jump apart when I entered. Holden's eyes met mine with a flash of surprise that quickly faded into something colder, more calculated.

"Gabrielle," he said flatly, as if I'd interrupted a business meeting. "You're early."

Elise's lips curled into a smile that never reached her eyes. She slid down from Holden's body with deliberate slowness, adjusting her clothing with theatrical precision.

"Did you need something?" she asked, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "We were just... finalizing some security details for tomorrow."

My throat constricted. "Security details? In his bedroom? Half-dressed?"

Elise laughed, the sound like breaking glass. "Oh, Gabrielle. You really thought he loved you, didn't you?" She stepped closer, her eyes gleaming with malice. "You were never more than a business transaction. Holden's been with me for months."

I stared at Holden, searching for any sign of the man I thought I knew. "Is this true?"

He didn't even bother to deny it. "You should go," he said dismissively. "Come back when you've calmed down."

---

The next day, my parents arrived at the Hughes mansion dressed in their finest attire. My mother's eyes shone with tears of joy as she hugged me.

"My beautiful girl," she whispered. "Tomorrow you'll be Mrs. Hughes."

If only she knew.

We were standing on the front steps when Elise appeared with a group of her friends. Her smile was predatory as she approached.

"Look who's here," she announced loudly. "The Peterson fortune hunters."

Before I could react, she raised her hand and hurled something at my father. A rotten egg splattered across his crisp white shirt.

"You pathetic gold-diggers," she sneered as her friends joined in, pelting my parents with eggs. "Did you really think you belonged here?"

My mother screamed as egg dripped down her face. I lunged forward, trying to shield them.

"Stop it!" I cried out, grabbing Elise's arm. "What is wrong with you?"

Holden appeared in the doorway, watching the scene with cold detachment. When he finally moved, it wasn't to help us.

"Elise, that's enough," he said mildly.

"She touched me," Elise whined, pointing to where my fingers had gripped her arm.

Holden's expression hardened as he turned to me. "Don't ever touch her again."

I pulled away, but he grabbed my wrist, twisting it with sudden violence. I heard the crack before I felt the pain—a sharp, blinding agony that shot up my arm.

"Mommy!" I screamed as I fell to my knees, cradling my broken hand.

---

The hospital emergency room was cold and bright. My parents sat beside me, their wedding finery ruined, their faces drawn with worry.

"We should call the police," my father kept saying, his voice shaking with rage.

But what could we say? That my fiancé had broken my hand? That his bodyguard had assaulted us with rotten eggs?

Holden hadn't even stayed. He'd left with Elise, throwing a careless "Get yourself checked out" over his shoulder as they walked away.

I stared at my bandaged hand, the physical pain nothing compared to the hollow ache in my chest. The man I thought I knew—the man I was going to marry tomorrow—had never existed.

As I sat there in that sterile room, surrounded by the wreckage of what should have been the happiest day of my life, something shifted inside me. The pain in my hand throbbed in time with a new awareness taking root in my mind.

This wasn't just about a cheating fiancé. This was something deeper, darker, more calculated than I could have imagined.

And as the fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, I realized that the betrayal extended far beyond a broken heart or a broken hand.
