Betrayed by My Alpha, I Became Free Chapter 1

I folded my last sweater and placed it carefully in the worn duffel bag, my hands trembling with anticipation. Tomorrow, Max and I would finally leave this pack behind. We would start our new life together, build our own pack in the western territories, just as he'd promised.

"Are you sure about this, Luna?" Anya whispered, her concerned eyes watching me from the doorway of my small cabin.

I smiled at my only friend in the Silver Fang Pack. "I've never been more certain of anything."

Anya stepped inside, closing the door quietly behind her. As a fellow omega, she understood the risks I was taking. "If anything ever happens... if you ever need help..." She pressed a small wooden token into my palm, carved with a crescent moon symbol. "The Rogue Alliance. They help omegas who need to... disappear."

"I won't need it," I said, tucking the token into my pocket anyway. "Max marked me. He promised we'd be together forever."

My fingers unconsciously traced the small scar on my neck where Max had left his mark months ago. Not a full mating bite, but a declaration of his intention. His scent still lingered on my skin, a constant reminder of our bond.

"Just keep it," Anya insisted. "Promise me."

I hugged her tightly. "I promise."

After Anya left, restlessness consumed me. Max had been distant all day, claiming pack business kept him occupied. Our mind-link had been quiet, which was unusual. Something felt wrong.

The silver moon hung heavy in the night sky as I slipped out of my cabin, following the familiar pull of Max's scent. It led me to the edge of pack territory, to the small hunting lodge where we often met in secret.

As I approached, another scent mingled with Max's—sweet, floral, and distinctly female. Victoria.

My heart stopped. I froze outside the window, unable to move as I saw them through the glass—Max's powerful body entwined with Victoria's slender form on the bearskin rug. His hands tangled in her long dark hair as he kissed her neck, exactly where he had marked mine.

I must have made a sound because Max's head suddenly snapped up, his eyes meeting mine through the window. Horror and guilt flashed across his face.

"Luna!" His voice crashed into my mind through our link as he disentangled himself from Victoria. "Wait!"

I ran. The forest blurred around me as tears streamed down my face. I made it halfway back to my cabin before Max caught me, his strong arms spinning me around to face him.

"It's not what you think," he pleaded, his voice desperate. "My wolf... Victoria went into heat. I couldn't control it."

"You promised," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Tomorrow was supposed to be our new beginning."

"And it still will be." Max cupped my face in his hands. "This meant nothing. You're my fated mate, Luna. My wolf was just... confused by her scent. It won't happen again."

I wanted to believe him. The Moon Goddess had chosen us for each other—how could I question that? His amber eyes held mine, sincere and pleading.

"We're still leaving tomorrow?" I asked, hating how small my voice sounded.

"Of course," he said, pulling me against his chest. "Nothing has changed."

I let him hold me, breathing in his scent that was now tainted with Victoria's. My wolf whimpered inside me, sensing the lie before I could admit it to myself.

Dawn broke with the sound of the pack gathering horn. Attendance was mandatory. I dressed quickly, my packed bag waiting by the door for our departure after the meeting.

The entire pack had assembled in the central clearing when I arrived. Max stood on the elevated stone platform, his expression unreadable. Beside him stood his mother, Luna Elara, her cold eyes scanning the crowd until they found me.

Victoria emerged from the Alpha house wearing a flowing crimson dress that highlighted her curves. She walked to the platform with deliberate slowness, a triumphant smile playing on her lips.

"I have an announcement to make," she declared, her voice carrying across the silent clearing. "I am carrying Alpha Maxwell's pup."

Gasps and murmurs rippled through the crowd. My world tilted sideways as Victoria placed Max's hand on her still-flat stomach.

"Silence!" Max commanded, his Alpha tone washing over the pack. His eyes found mine in the crowd, pleading. "This is... unexpected news. As your Alpha heir, I must put the pack's needs first. The future of Silver Fang depends on strong leadership and continuity."

I felt the weight of every stare as pack members turned to look at me, the rejected omega. The mate who wasn't enough.

Later, in Max's ornate study, I confronted him. "You lied to me."

"I didn't know she was pregnant," he insisted, pacing behind his massive oak desk. "Luna, please understand. I can't leave now, not with my pup on the way. But this changes nothing between us."

"It changes everything," I whispered.

Max rounded the desk, gripping my shoulders. "We will still have our pack, our life together. I just need time to handle this situation. Once the pup is born, we'll go. I promise."

His Alpha aura pressed against me, not quite a command but a heavy persuasion. Through our mind-link, I felt his desperation. "Please, Luna. Wait for me. Just a little longer."

My wolf howled in anguish, but the mate bond pulled stronger. What choice did I have? The Moon Goddess had tied us together. If I rejected him, I would be nothing—less than an omega, a packless rogue.

"How long?" I asked, defeated.

"Just until the pup is born," Max promised, relief flooding his face. "Then we'll go, just as we planned."

As I left his study, I caught sight of Victoria watching from the shadows, one hand resting protectively over her stomach, the other holding a small vial that smelled faintly of wolfsbane and moon tea. Her triumphant smile told me everything I needed to know.

This was just the beginning.

The Inter-Pack Summit's grand hall glowed with ceremonial torches, casting dramatic shadows across the faces of the most powerful Alphas in the region. I stood at the entrance, my silver aura radiating outward in controlled waves—not a display of emotion, but a calculated reminder of the Silvermoon Pack's strength under my leadership. Marcus positioned himself precisely one step behind me and to my right, his presence a silent comfort through our private mind-link. *They're all watching for weakness,* he observed, his thoughts flowing into mine with familiar ease. *Then they'll find none,* I replied, scanning the room with measured indifference. Alpha Kaelen Blackwood approached first, his dark eyes evaluating me with the same predatory calculation I recognized in myself. "Alpha Victoria," he greeted, inclining his head just slightly enough to acknowledge my status without suggesting submission. "Your champion has brought considerable attention to the Silvermoon territory." "As intended," I replied coolly, the subtle tap of my index finger against my thigh the only outward sign of my strategic assessment. Ryan Mitchell had indeed brought attention—attention I had meticulously orchestrated over five years of investment. The rogue I'd salvaged from starvation had been molded into a weapon that now represented Silvermoon dominance in combat.

I smoothed down the front of my traditional Luna ceremonial dress, the silver embroidery catching the light as I moved. Three years. Three perfect years with my mate, and tonight I wanted everything to be perfect. "Do you think he'll like the surprise?" I asked my reflection, adjusting the moonstone pendant that had been my mother's. It was the last thing she'd given me before passing, and I wore it only on special occasions. My wolf, Aria, purred with satisfaction. *He'll love it. You've prepared his favorite meal.* I glanced at the dining room table, set with our finest china and candles. The roast was resting, vegetables steaming, and a bottle of aged red wine—Tyson's favorite—hidden in the car for the final touch. "He should be home any minute," I murmured, checking my phone.
