After My Alpha Rejected Me, His Pack Followed Me Chapter 1

At 8:47 on the night of the Autumn Banquet, Simon Cooper spoke eleven words that ended five years of my life. "I, Simon Cooper, Alpha of Ironveil, reject you, Gemma Walker, as my mate and Luna."

I had arranged the candles on every table. I had chosen the wine. I stood at the edge of the hall in a plain gray dress because Simon said the dais was for family, and I had believed, right up until that sentence, that I still counted as family.

The mark on my neck went cold first, like a window thrown open in December. Then it went hollow, a door closing on an empty room. The bond didn't snap so much as it was carved out of me, silver dragged through muscle, and my knees hit the stone floor before I decided to let them.

Capri's hand never left his arm. Her belly pressed against the fabric of her gown, round and proud, and the whole hall watched Simon announce her as his Luna while I knelt on the floor he'd built with my negotiations, my ledgers, my sleepless nights.

"Get her out," Simon said. "She's rogue now. No pack, no claim."

Two warriors closed on my arms. Their grips were rough, efficient, the way you'd handle furniture you didn't want touching the good rugs. I felt the tear in my chest widen — and then something older than the pain answered it.

My spine cracked. I heard it before I felt it. My body convulsed between their hands and they let go, stumbling back, and what stood up from the floor was not a woman anymore.

White fur caught the firelight like it was burning from the inside. I was taller than either warrior, taller than Simon, and the aura that came off me hit the hall like a wave breaking against rock. Chairs scraped. Bodies folded. I watched — with eyes that saw everything now, sharper, wider — every wolf in that room drop to their knees.

Simon dropped too. His own wolf whimpered somewhere under his skin, and his chin tipped back, baring his throat to the woman he'd just discarded. Capri screamed once and clutched her stomach. Elaine gripped the arms of her chair until her knuckles went bloodless white.

Nobody said a word.

I let the wolf recede — my choice, not theirs — and stood back up on two human legs, in a torn gray dress, and walked out of Ironveil's hall on my own power. Nobody dragged me anywhere.

Zendaya found me three hours later in a borrowed den on neutral ground, a bottle of wine in one hand and a folder under her arm.

"You look like hell," she said, dropping both on the floor. "Drink first, law second."

I didn't drink. My neck still burned cold where the mark used to sit, like a scar with no skin over it. Zendaya spread the papers anyway — old statutes, a section header worn soft from photocopying.

"The Luna Accord," she said. "Any Luna publicly rejected can petition the Lycan Council for territorial reparations. Doesn't matter if he never gave you the title. You *functioned* as Luna for five years — every alliance, every treaty, it's got your fingerprints on it, and I've got the paperwork to prove it."

I reached forward and started reading it myself.

The Council chamber, two days later, smelled like cedar polish and old parchment. Simon didn't come. He sent a lean, nervous representative instead, and I watched three Council elders note the insult without saying a word aloud.

"She's an Omega," the representative argued. "Wolfless. She has no standing to claim Luna rights under—"

I stood. I let just enough of the aura surface to still the room, no more, and the representative's voice thinned to nothing.

"Five years of documented pack management," I said. "The formal rejection, witnessed by this Council's own observers. And a wolf that answered the moment I needed her to." I didn't raise my voice. I didn't need to.

The Council granted me Dawnridge — broken, half-forested, bordering territory belonging to a Lycan Prince named Daxton Webb, according to the map the clerk unrolled. Nobody else had wanted it in a decade.

Before I left the building, I stopped at the clerk's desk and filed a supplementary record — border lands, resource rights, patrol corridors, all listed as reparations owed by Ironveil, plus a quarterly monitoring order on Simon's remaining pack strength.

"Received," the clerk said, stamping it twice.

My representative exhaled behind me like he'd been holding his breath since the hearing began. I folded my copy into my coat, felt the paper's edge against my ribs, and walked out into the cold holding the only weapon Simon had never thought I'd need.
