The Whispering Fetus Chapter 1

When the babies in my womb were about five months old, I suddenly heard my daughter's voice in my head.

"Mommy, Bella is trying to get rid of me. She's grabbing my umbilical cord with her hands. It hurts so much…"

Believing Ava, I forced myself to eat nonstop and take every supplement I could. I even asked the doctor whether there was any medicine that could suppress Bella's growth.

When I was in labor, the fetuses were too large. I lost so much blood and only delivered Ava before I died. Bella died in me as well.

Right before my consciousness faded, I saw the newly born Ava looking at me with a wicked smile.

"You idiot. You believed everything I said. Your luck, Bella's luck, and even Daddy's luck. I'll gladly take them all."

Only then did I realize that Ava, whom I fought so hard to give birth to, was a monster.

When I opened my eyes again, it was back to the very first day I heard Ava's voice in my head.

"Mommy, it really hurts! Bella is trying to get rid of me! She's grabbing my umbilical cord…"

When I heard her voice once more, I was slowly reeling from the fact that I had been reborn.

I was truly back. In my previous life, it was that sentence that led me to do all sorts of terrible things that led to the path of no return.

I did not care what sort of monster was in my womb, but I was not going to let it hurt my children.

As long as I ignored her, she would not be able to do anything.

Ava Kent whined in a tentative yet feeble voice when she saw no reaction from me.

"Mommy, save me…"

My heart was ice cold, yet I pretended that everything was normal. I touched my baby bump.

"The doctor told me that I'm having twins. Babies, you two must be good. Don't disturb Mommy."

Ava was a little perplexed by my reaction.

"That's strange. I'm already talking so loudly. Can she still not hear me?"

I was stunned. Did I gain the ability to test Ava's powers since I was reborn?

I suppressed the excitement in me. I grabbed a children's book and started reading to them.

"Babies, let me read to you."

Right at that moment, my husband, Michael Kent, returned home. He opened the door and greeted me.

"Wendy, I'm home! How do you feel today? Were the babies good?"

I placed the book down and flashed him a thrilled-to-be-a-mother smile.

"The babies were wonderful, but I'm somehow craving cake today. Perhaps, it's the babies asking for cake."

I acted normally, because I knew that in order to force the monster to desperately use some other tactics, I had to not listen to her.

Ava said once more, "Mommy, no cake! I know you're lactose intolerant. It's Bella who wants to eat the cake! She's trying to hurt you! Mommy, drink some chicken soup. It's nutritious for you."

I raised an eyebrow. Ava was trying so hard for me to hate Bella, to stop Bella from being born, all because she wanted our luck.

I guessed that after I died in the previous life, Michael must have ended up terribly as well.

Michael came over to hug me and touched my belly.

"Alright. If you want some cake, I'll get you some cake right away."

I suddenly had another idea pop up in my mind. I grabbed Michael's hand and said coquettishly, "I don't want cake right now. I want you to make me chicken soup. Could you make me some?"

"Sure thing, honey." Michael patted me on the head before heading into the kitchen.

"Mommy, you can hear me! It's me. Ava!" Ava excitedly moved when I changed my mind, thinking that I could hear her.

She added, "Mommy, I'll protect you. Bella is being mean. Don't listen to her."

I quietly sat on the couch, watching TV, pretending I couldn't hear anything. Ava was noisily buzzing in my ears, yet she clearly had no intention of wishing me well.

"How strange! Can this stupid woman really hear me or not?"

When I ignored Ava once more, she was so furious she shut up. No matter what, she was still my child, but when I heard her call me a stupid woman, my heart went ice cold.

Michael made me chicken soup. He fed me while I praised his wonderful cooking.

After dinner, he sat next to me on the couch, touching my belly as usual. Just when he was about to lay his hand on my belly, a loud cry exploded in my mind.

"Daddy! Daddy! Can you hear me? Bella's being mean to me! She's taking away my food! She's also kicking me! It really hurts, Daddy!"

His hand hung in mid-air stiffly. His smile froze on his face, instantly turning to surprise and horror.

He looked at my belly in disbelief, then at me. He asked with a hint of horror in his tone, "W-Wendy, d-did you hear that?"
