Reclaiming Her Billionaire Chapter 1

Maeve’s pov

Rory and Sabrina sat right next to me in the front row seats at the wedding reception of Sabrina’s really close friend. The only reason why I was here was because Sabrina begged me to come with her as a plus one guest. I had to ask someone else to fill in for me at the hospital in order to make it here.

From the looks of things the couple and their sponsors seemed really wealthy. Judging from the theme of the ceremony, it all screamed “rich! rich! rich!”

My eyes travelled around the room while soft jazz music played in the background. From the white coloured ribbons wrapped around the large pillars that held the place up to the chandeliers made of shiny crystals hanging at every section of the ceiling, lightening the place up.

While my neck slowly turned to take a look at every single beautiful decoration made in this room, I felt a light tog on the hem of my dress, when I turned around, I shot a smile at my little angel. Although he had a worried look on his face.

“Honey are you okay?”

“Mommy, I’m tired and I wanna go home.” He whined. Before I could respond to him, Sabrina tapped on me aggressively, I turned to her, with my brows furrowed.

“Sabrina?!” I whisper shouted. Her gaze was glued to the stage and she had a wide smile on her face, at the same time, she looked like she had seen a Greek god.

“Here he comes!” She squealed and squeezed on my hand tightly

“Who— oh my gosh, Sabrina?!” I asked confusedly with my gaze still on her.

She then turned to me, rolled her eyes and let out a sigh of exhaustion, “ Haven’t you been listening to everything I’ve been saying? The handsome billionaire I told you about yesterday and the day before and the one before the one bef—“

“I get it.” I interrupted.

“Good!” She squealed. “He’s about to give his speech.”

I turned to the stage and my jaw dropped after I was hit with the greatest shock of my life, " No! It can't be him, it can't possibly be him." I muttered under my breathed as I subconsciously raised my hands to cover my mouth. Instantly, I buried my head in the ground to avoid him from noticing Maeve O’Brien was sitting right in front of him.

I wasn't sure if he would be able to recognize me but I wasn't ready to pull the risk, the last time I saw Landon Sullivan was five years ago and after a harsh breakup, I left the city and never talked about him or set my eyes on him until this day. My heart raced with fear and nervousness,

As nervous and uncomfortable as I was, it felt like there was a large lump in my throat which made it difficult for me to swallow in that moment, hearing his voice and seeing him alone flood last memories in my head, memories I wish I could erase instantly.

I was mostly bothered about how to leave this place without being seen and unfortunately, Immediately I buried my head in the ground in order to hide my face and brainstormed a plan.

"Good evening, everyone." Came that unforgettable baritone that sent memories flooding through the gates of my mind, memories I buried deep down, memories I wanted to forget so badly. I rubbed my hands against each other and my palms were already so sweaty, I could feel my chest heaving as my breath grew short.

He cleared his throat and started giving off his speech.

"Oh my gosh, his voice!" Sabrina squealed. The excitement in her voice went very unnoticed, "Can you see him? He's cute right?" Sabrina asked. asked. Too distracted by Landon’s good looks she didn’t noticed how uneasy and uncomfortable I was.

The last thing I needed was to be seen by him here, I didn’t want have any sort of interaction with him . Rory was so pushy about us leaving, and so I stole the opportunity immediately.

I turned to Sabrina, “Sabrina?” I stole a glance at my wrist watch and let out a really uncomfortable chuckle. “Well, look at the time! I and Rory will have to leave now.”

Sabrina turned to me I watched her face that had a wide grin plastered on it morph into a really sad one, “He just started his speech, you can’t leave now…” she whined, “I was really hoping we could meet him later on back stage before he leaves the building—“

“No! No no need for that.” I interrupted her, my voice shaky, in fact not just my voice but my entire body was shaky. I didn’t want Sabrina to get the hint that I was really uncomfortable so I had to pretend as hard as possible, “I mean … it’s almost time for bed and Rory has school tomorrow.”

“Ohhh that’s right.”

I let out a sigh of relief, I didn’t have to argue any further. “C’mon Rory, get up, we’re leaving now.” I whispered to him with a smile. Sabrina grabbed his hands, “I’m gonna miss you Rory,” she whined.

He smiled at her, “I’m gonna miss you too Sabrina.”

“Be good okay?” She whispered to him and kissed his forehead. While they were saying their goodbyes, my eyes scanned the room from where we were seated to the exit, calculating how we could possibly leave without being seen.

Unfortunately for me, our eyes caught each other, I turned away almost immediately, “Fuck!” and cursed under my breath.

“Mommy, we can go now.” Rory said to me.

Landon cleared his throat while on stage, like he was distracted and I knew why exactly, he spotted me! I got up, grabbed Rory’s hand and zoomed off.

“Mommy—“

“Honey, hurry up.” I interrupted Rory from saying anything or slowing us down. While on the move, I could feel my heart beating loudly in my chest. For some reason the distance to the exit felt so far.

“Mommy, I’m tripping!” Rory complained but I paid no attention to him and we were out the door. But I could no longer hear his voice instead, I could hear the faint applause of the guest which meant he was done with his speech.

We were already at the car. I nervously searched for the car keys in my bag, I was so nervous and shaky, I could barely concentrate or even pick the keys up even if I found them, but then, I had to hurry. I wasn’t sure Landon was gonna come after us but I didn’t want to take the risk to find out either.

“Mommy… your hands are vibrating.” Rory said to me.

“Honey don’t worry I’m fine—“

“Excuse me, ma’am!” Came a faint voice from behind that cut me short.

Rory turned his head over his shoulder, “Mommy, I think that man is talking to you.” He pointed in his direction while looking up at me.

“Honey, remember what I taught you about strangers.” I forced a smile on my face so he wouldn’t noticed I was in the worst situation ever. Rory was a very smart kid, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to sense something was wrong.

I stole a glance at the distance and noticed the men were actually getting closer.

“Maeve?” I heard him yell my name with that familiar baritone and instant, I felt defeated and weak. Finally, I got a hold of the keys but Landon had caught up to us already.

“Where have you been?!” He glared at me like he had seen a ghost.

He gaze fell to Rory, and immediately I pushed Rory gently to my back, “Stay behind me, honey.”I whispered to his hearing.

“I have to leave now, I’m in a haste.” I muttered as I unlocked the car with the button on the keys. “Get in, honey.” I said to Rory after getting the door for him, and then I slammed the door shut.

The last thing I ever wanted in life was to have anything at all to do with Landon or to even have him anywhere near my son ever, especially after what happened between us in the past.

“Who’s child is that?” He asked, wearing curiosity on his face like a mask.

“Landon, I’m not here for chitchat, plus it’s non of your business.” I said to him, glaring at him with a firm gaze.

Landon tried to reach out to my arm but I instantly pulled away, “Don’t you ever! We haven’t had any form of interaction in the past what, five years?! Please, let things stay that way.” I sparked at him, my voice trembling with hopes that the tears that were hanging on my eye lids wouldn’t roll down my face while I was giving him a piece of my mind. “Don’t ever come near me or my son again.” I got into the car and slammed the door shut.

He leaned against the windshield and in that moment, I didn’t care if I ran him over, he did deserve it, “We have a lot of catch up on!” He yelled through the windscreen.

I revved my engine to let him know I was considering running him over and immediately the two men he came along with pulled him off my car,

“Sir …” one of them mouthed and I drove away, while watching them through the rear mirror.
