The Billionaire's Accidental Bride Chapter 1

Emma

I stared at my reflection in the mirror, and for the first time, I didn’t recognize the girl looking back at me.

Her eyes were red and swollen, her lips shaking uncomfortably. Tears streaked down her cheeks like tiny rivers of pain. My breath was coming in quick. I felt empty inside like someone had entered inside me and pulled everything out.

“You’re stronger than this,” I whispered to myself.

But the girl in the mirror didn’t believe me. She looked like she’d lost everything.

I leaned closer, pressing my palms against the cold sink. “How did it come to this?” I murmured.

Things weren't supposed to go this way.

If someone had told me a few weeks ago that I’d be standing here heartbroken, alone, and preparing to take a graduation trip by myself I’d have doubted it.

Because back then, everything looked perfect.

I was supposed to be celebrating. Smiling. Expecting a proposal from my boyfriend of four years.

Back then, life had felt like a dream.

Campus had been too good to me. I came from a modest family. Unlike a rich family like most of my friends, I worked hard, doing a part job after school to support myself.

My parents had always said, “Education is one of the things no one can take away from you.” They didn’t have much, but they gave me everything that mattered most: love, prayers, and always believed that tomorrow would be better.

I was the girl who stayed awake through the night studying, who tutored others when they needed help.

I even helped my best friend Sophie with her assignments. She was never really interested in academics; she just wanted to pass and party.

Her parents were wealthy, they drove her to school with their flashy car every semester, bought for her boxes of designer clothes and perfumes.

She’d laugh and say, “Emma, one day I’ll take you shopping in Paris,” and I’d smile, pretending that kind of life didn’t make me feel small.

Then there was Ryan.

He wasn’t just my boyfriend. He was my first love, my all. The boy with the soft brown eyes and that confident smile that made my heart skip every time.

He’d walk me to class every morning, carry my books even when I told him not to, and buy me ice cream after night lectures.

We were that campus couple everyone teased for being too sweet.

Sophie would always say, “You two are disgusting. You should get married already and have babies.”

And I’d throw a pillow at her, laughing. “You’re just jealous, Soph.”

The three of us. Me, Sophie, and Ryan were more like a team. We studied together, ate together, even made plans for our graduation trip.

We talked about traveling to Miami after our final exams, celebrating the end of school with beach parties and adventures. It was supposed to be the perfect ending of our story.

But guess what? Perfect didn't seem to exist in my life.

That evening, I’d gone to surprise Ryan at his house. It was the eve of our graduation trip. And I’d expecting a proposal from him.

I bought a bouquet of red roses…his favorite with a small gift. My heart was filled with excitement as I walked down the corridor of his apartment.

The hallway was quiet, the air felt heavy with heat. I walked straight to his door, smiling softly, rehearsing how I’d say, “Surprise, babe!”

But then I froze.

At first, I thought I was imagining it… the faint, rhythmic sounds coming from inside. Low moans, a mix of pleasure and something raw. The sound of skin against skin.

My breath caught.

“No,” I whispered to myself. I shook my head, forcing a nervous laugh. “It can’t be what I think.”

But the sounds grew louder and filled with pleasure. A woman’s voice…breathy, high-pitched…calling his name.

Ryan. Go harder.

The roses slipped from my fingers and hit the floor. My stomach churned. I pressed my ear against the door, my heart beating so fast I could hear it.

Every sound sliced through me, the sound of the bed, the laughter, the whispers. I wanted to run, to leave before I saw anything I wouldn't like to see, but my body refused to move.

Tears blurred my vision. My palms were sweating. I felt dizzy, sick. My heart whispered, Maybe it’s not him, but my mind already knew what were waiting for me.

My hands shook as I reached for the door handle.

I pushed the door open.

And the world stopped. I felt heat all over my body.

Ryan was naked, bare-chested, his body tangled with the lady. Sophia. My best friend. The same girl who once swore she’d never come between us.

Her manicured fingers were still on his chest when she looked up, her eyes opened wide, lips swollen. The silence that followed was deafening.

I stood there, frozen in the doorway, my hand still clutching the bouquet of red roses.

The room smelled of sweat and sex, and somewhere between the scent of betrayal and cheap perfume, I felt my heart tear into a thousand tiny pieces.

Ryan jumped off the bed, stammering. “Emma…wait, I can explain!”

“Explain?” I snapped, my voice cracking. “Explain what, Ryan? That you were bored? That you're fucking my best friend ?”

Sophia smirked, pulling the sheets around her like a queen covering herself in victory. “Oh, don’t act so innocent, Emma. You knew this would happen eventually one day.”

I stared at her, tears welling down from my eyes mixed with disbelief. “You?” I could barely breathe. “You were my best friend.”

“Friend?” she scoffed. “Oh please. I was tired of pretending. You think you can keep a man like Ryan? Look at you, plain, poor, always reading like an old maid.”

She laughed a cruel look augh. “You couldn’t even give him what he really wanted.”

Ryan tried to cut in. “Sophia, stop…”

But she ignored him, her words sharper than knives. “You think love is enough? He’s a billionaire’s son, Emma. He needs more than your cheap affection and boring kisses. You couldn’t even satisfy him. You’re too... local.”

Something snapped inside me. My vision blurred with anger.

“Say that again,” I whispered.

Sophia tilted her head and smiled. “You heard me. You're poor, plain, boring Emma …the charity case who thought she could compete with me.”

Before I knew it, I lunged at her. The roses dropped to the floor again, petals scattering like blood on the tiles. My hand hit her face so hard, the sound echoing through the still room.

“You… you betrayed me!” I screamed, tears welling down my cheeks.

Sophia shouted back, clawing at me. “You deserve it, you pathetic little girl!”

We fought with anger, desperate, furious. Pulling out hairs. Years of friendship ended in seconds.

Ryan rushed forward, grabbing my arms and pulled me out from her. “Emma, stop! Please!”

“Don’t touch me!” I cried, jerking away. My chest was rising and falling rapidly, my heart pounding painfully. “Don’t you dare touch me.”

Sophia was panting, her hair a mess, her eyes shining with satisfaction . “Go ahead, leave,” she sneered. “He was never yours to begin with.”

I looked at Ryan…his face pale, guilty, scared. “You disgust me,” I hissed. My voice was shaking, but I meant every word.

“Emma…”

“It’s over between us Ryan,” I said, stepping back. “You two can go ahead.”

Then I turned, walking toward the door, and slammed the door hard behind me. The sound echoing through the room.

The hallway felt colder now. The air is heavier. Each step away from that room felt heavy.

And when I finally stepped outside, I realized that the girl who’d walked in with roses wasn’t the same girl who walked out with tears and betrayal.

The bass from the karaoke bar pulsed through my chest like a second heartbeat, each thump making my temples throb. I watched Lucca laughing with his pack brothers, his arm slung casually over Delta Marcus's shoulder as they belted out some terrible rendition of an old pack anthem. The crowd was a sea of familiar faces from Silvermoon, all here to celebrate our territory's founding anniversary. I'd been smiling for two hours straight, playing the perfect Luna-to-be, but the noise was finally winning. 'I need some air,' I murmured to Mira, who nodded with understanding before turning back to her own conversation. The cool night air hit my face like a blessing as I slipped through the bar's side door. Silvermoon territory at night was beautiful—the trees rustled gently, and moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. I took a deep breath, letting Selene, my wolf, stretch contentedly within me. For just a moment, I could pretend I was alone with the night sky. Then I heard Lucca's voice.

The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of Crescent Academy's grand hall, casting golden light across the polished wooden floors. I sat in the front row, my heart swelling with pride as I watched Zander cross the stage. Three years of sacrifice, late nights, and endless support had led to this moment. "Ladies and gentlemen," the headmaster announced, his voice echoing through the hall, "our valedictorian, Zander Campbell, has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills and tactical brilliance throughout his time at Crescent Academy." Zander stepped forward, his tall frame commanding attention. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his ceremonial Alpha robes fit him like they were made specifically for him—which, considering how much I'd invested in his education, they practically were. "Today marks not just an ending, but a beginning," Zander's voice carried confidently across the hall. "A beginning where we will build stronger packs, forge unbreakable alliances, and lead with both strength and wisdom." My fingers traced the intricate patterns on my dress as I listened. Those words—they were from the strategic frameworks I'd developed and shared with him during late-night study sessions. The pride in my chest expanded. This was our victory, our future.
