Chapter 4

They were all taken aback by his words as they hadn't expected him to choose me alongside their daughter that they had prepared for him.

"Are you sure about this sir? She's only an omega and wouldn't be able to do as you want sir," my uncle went in to say with a flush of hatred in his eyes for me.

I didn't give a damn about him or his thoughts at that moment. All I could think of and all that ran through my mind was the Alpha king. I began to imagine how wonderful it would be to be with the alpha king instead of the prison yard that I was in.

"Yes, I am sure. Why do you ask? She looks good and hardworking. She would work well as a royal slave or what do you think?" He went on to say like their opinions really counted to him. He already had his mind made up and he was going to do just that, no matter what happens.

There was a moment of silence between them as my uncle thought of what to do at that moment. He was in a dilemma and nothing seemed to make any more sense to him.

"Yeah, it's fine sir, but you know I cannot just let go of my slave in that manner sir. She's really useful to me as well so you have to do something to kind of compensate me, sir," he went on to say with a wide grin, rubbing his palm with ecstasy.

"Fine… I'll pay any amount. Come on, name your price… I'll settle you,' the alpha king announced much to the amazement of everyone there most especially Laura. I stared at my cousin, seeing so much disgust and hate in her eyes just like her father.

I couldn't understand why they were upset when I should be doing that instead. They killed my entire family and threw me into a state of disarray.

"To hell with all of them and their anger," I cursed under my breath, flashing a wide grin at them, one that conveyed my ecstasy.

"Are you sure? Two bags of gold is the price to have her as yours. Are you willing to pay such an amount for someone like her?" He asked, eyeing me with disdain. I stared back at him with my hands akimbo.

I was taken aback, trying to process why he was making it so hard for the alpha king to have me. He had taken everything away from me so I couldn't understand why he still wanted me around him.

The Alpha king snapped his finger twice and in walked three heavily built men, bearing three huge sacks that I guessed contained gold. I clenched my fists in anger, biting my lower lips like there was anything I could do to him and his family.

I was weak and have not the strength to even battle with them emotionally, talkless of having a confrontation with them all. All I had as strength was my anger and fierce devilish look.

"There are three bags here. Two is the Price for me to have her as my slave and the last one is for letting me have her!" The alpha king blurted out with a wide grin, knowing quite well that there was no way he would ever refuse his offer.

"Fine then, you can have her," he mumbled and turned his attentowardwards me. "Go and pack your bags. You'll be leaving with your new master as soon as possible," he said to me with a thick frown embedded into his physique.

"Alright sir. I'll do that right awayyyyy," I said with great enthusiasm and scurried off as quickly as I could, showing my excitement to every dick and harry I met.

As I went, I met some maids who hurried to where I stood right away, gesticulating widely like they had just won the lottery.

"Congratulations babe!" They chorused in unison, each locking me in a tight embrace, leaving me confused. I couldn't understand why they were both congratulating me.

"Thank you, but what is it you are congratulating me? I haven't won anything, have I?" I asked, gesturing with my hands.

"Come on. We've heard the news already and we are really glad for you. We are happy that you are finally leaving this place that has brought you nothing but pain since you lost your parents and your brother."

I wanted to tell them that my parents didn't kill themselves but were killed by my uncle, but I felt there is no need. There is nothing they could do to change the narrative, so I decided to keep my mouth shut. I was surprised though.

"But wait, how did you know that I am leaving the pack?"

"Well, we were eavesdropping on the conversation inside the Alpha's chambers and that was how we heard, anyways.. congratulations. We wish you the best of luck," they muttered and hastened off.

I got to my room which was a small cottage I shared with three other omegas. It was in a very bad condition and wasn't even fit to serve as a pen House talkless of housing a Werewolf. My uncle had moved me there for refusing to sleep with him.

It was as empty as a graveyard and I felt a rare kind of relief in me. I wasn't ready to start explaining to them how the alpha king came into possession of me. I walked to my bed space, packed the few belongings that were mine into a mini bag, and then dashed off as quickly as I could to the chambers where they all stood waiting for me.

"They are all packed ma. I'm ready to leave…" I said as I place the bag on the floor. The alpha king stared with admiration that I hadn't seen in anyone. Even though I didn't know the reason he was taking me along with him, I understood the look on his face.

"You can go continue your chore. You'll be called when he's about to leave," my uncle snapped at me and I had to control myself from bursting into laughter. I gave a low bow and walked out of the room.

I had barely gone a few seconds when I noticed someone tugging at my clothes. I turned my head to behold who it was and alas, a slap landed on my face causing me to stagger. I didn't expect it one bit. It was my cousin, Laura.

"Why did you hit me?" I shrieked with pain, clutching the Spot where she hit me. It stung really hard that even after a minute, I still could feel the pain.

"What did you do or say to the Alpha king? You must have added some portion into his meal," she came hard at me in a loud voice. Her vein stood taut on her neck as she spoke. Her hands were also clenched into a fist, waiting to land them on me…

"What do you mean by that? I didn't do anything to anyone. Perhaps he has nothing about how miserably you all treat me here even after stealing my father's wealth and killing my family," I slammed at her and saw her raise her fist to hit me.

I caught it mid-air and pushed her back. She would have fallen if it weren't for the stone that was behind her and helped her maintain her position.

"Did you just push me?" She asked with disbelief, her face laced with shock. Perhaps she hadn't thought I would fight back at her. "Yes, I just pushed you and I'll do more to you if you do not stay away from me. Just let me be and we wouldn't have anything to quarrel about.

"I think you are forgetting something! Have you forgotten that I'm the mate of the alpha king now and you'll still have to follow my instructions? Don't be too excited that you are leaving my father's pack. Perhaps, it might be worse over there," she said to me with an evil grin lurking at the corners of her mouth.

"Did you just say your father's pack? You can build your castles on illusion because this isn't your father's pack. It is my father's. Your father killed him and took over the pack." At this point, I was extremely angry and it took everything within me not to attack her.

"Well, you can say whatever you want to say. We are in charge here and to think you wouldn't even last more than a few minutes. I feel it's best you go meet your parents and good for nothing brother," she thought aloud and then brought out a dagger from her robe.

"Do you have any last words to say before I send you to the world beyond… Ha! Ha! Ha!" She laughed out loud. Fear gripped me as I thought of what to do. My eyes darted around and unfortunately, there was no one there to help me out.

She yielded the dagger at me and…

The small glass vial felt cold against my palm as I held it up to the morning light filtering through the curtains. Five years. Five years of this poisonous ritual, of swallowing wolfsbane to mask my scent, to delay my heat, to play the perfect, docile Luna. "Just one more day," I whispered to my reflection in the mirror. My eyes looked back at me, dull and lifeless—a side effect of the wolfsbane that had become my constant companion. The poison suppressed not just my wolf, but my very essence. Sasha, my wolf, had been silent for so long that sometimes I wondered if she still existed within me. "The contract expires at midnight," I reminded myself, tipping the vial and letting the bitter liquid slide down my throat. The familiar burn followed, spreading through my chest and settling in my stomach like a stone. "Just one more day of pretending." Today marked both the Silver Moon Pack's annual Moon Festival and my fifth mating anniversary with Alpha Miles Hunter.

The nursery was the only place in the Pack House where the air didn’t feel like it was choking me. It was a small room on the third floor, far away from the Alpha’s luxurious suite—the suite that should have been mine by right, but was currently occupied by a woman who wasn't. "Mama, look," Tommy whispered, holding up a drawing. It was a crude, crayon depiction of a large black wolf standing next to a smaller, golden one. "That's Daddy. And that's me." My heart clenched, a familiar, dull ache that had been my constant companion for seven years. Tommy had never seen Remington’s wolf form up close. My mate, Alpha Remington Stevens, barely looked at our son, let alone shifted for him. To Remington, Tommy was just a reminder of a political shackle he was desperate to break. To me, Tommy was the only reason I was still breathing.

I spread the treaty draft across Greyson's mahogany desk, smoothing the corners with fingers that had negotiated a dozen such agreements over the past seven years. The afternoon light slanted through the office windows, catching the gold embossing on the Silverclaw Pack seal. I'd spent three weeks crafting this proposal—a trade alliance with the Northern Packs that would secure our winter supply lines and strengthen our political position. The door opened. I looked up, expecting Marcus, our Beta, to join us for the strategy session. Instead, Greyson entered with Paris Ramirez clinging to his arm like ivy on a dying tree. My wolf, Aurora, stirred uneasily in my mind. *Something's wrong.* The she-wolf's scent hit me—wild roses and something sharper, more desperate. The marble floor was cold beneath my raw, bleeding knees. I scrubbed harder, trying to erase the mud stains from the entrance hall, though my hands trembled with exhaustion. Above me, the Shadowfang Pack's grand Luna Ceremony was in full swing—crystal chandeliers casting golden light over polished wooden floors, expensive wine flowing freely as Thaddeus's loyalists celebrated his official claiming of Virginia Simmons as his Luna. My back ached from the weight of silver chains wrapped around my torso—not enough to kill me, just enough to remind everyone that I was nothing more than an omega prisoner in what was once my home. "Look at her," a passing she-wolf whispered to her companion, her expensive gown rustling as she deliberately stepped around me. "The pathetic little wolfless freak." They thought I couldn't hear them. They thought wrong. Six months ago, I had been Scarlett Andrews, eldest daughter of the Moonstone Pack, with my own wolf—a magnificent silver-white creature with ethereal blue eyes. Now I was... nothing.
