Chapter 5

LIAM'S POV

I continued to pace around the room with a rage of anger sizzling through me. I couldn't get myself to be calm even though my friends who were seated there continuously asked me to.

"Why did it have to be exactly her when there are tons of other slaves he could purchase," u yelled, slamming my hand against the wooden table in front of her with so much anger that ate deeper and deeper into me with every second that passed.

"Are you sure he doesn't like her and hence, the reason he wants to get her?" Kai asked as she sipped slowly from the cup of wine fastened to his hand. He jiggled the cup around while I continued to pace round the room with reckless abandon.

"I doubt if that's what happened.. he cannot possibly have feelings for that wrench when my beautiful and Gorgeous sister is right here and he's even taking her as his mate, so I don't think he has feelings for Katherine." I went on to say.

"Are you sure? Do you think he'll pay such a huge amount to have her if he doesn't have feelings for her? Two bags of gold isn't a child's play and you know that…"

"Yeah, I know, but I don't think that's how it is." I went on to say as I didn't want to agree with the fact that he might be right.

"Alright then, but don't be surprised if that's just the truth…" my friend said again and burst into laughter. I was still fuming hard when the door came open with reckless abandon. Our eyes moved towards the door, wondering who it was. It was Lisa. She looked so mad and upset.

"What's the problem and why do you look so furious? Did anything happen outside?" I asked with a frown forming quickly on my face. I was still trying to get over the fact that Katherine would be leaving, and here she was, forming all hard and mighty.

"Talmabout that witch acting all bossy and Nuts because she's finally going to be leaving our pack. You needed to see the way she stared at me, like we both are of the same class. This is so annoying and I feel like landing a punch across her face." She confessed, clenching her hands into a fist.

"Is that why you are here?" I asked suddenly, taking her off guard. She had thought I was going to be interested by what she had to say hence the reason she came into the room. She thought of what to say to me but she couldn't think of anything. I fixed my gaze on her, waiting for a response from her and when I got none, I eyed her vehemently and caused her to scurry off. The moment she was out of the room, a loud hiss trailed from my lips while my friend burst into a long round of laughter.

"I have to think of a way to stop her from leaving. I have to do something about this and as quickly as I can," I vowed and moved out of the room like one that was being pursued.

LAURA'S POV

I stared at my cousin who was standing in front of me with so much hatred. "How did she manage to avoid my attack!" I wondered as I moved towards her again. I was bent on sending her to the other world. I couldn't stand having an omega disrespecting me.

"So killing my entire family wasn't enough? You still want to kill me as well," she asked me as she took some steps backwards, but I pretended like I didn't hear her or like she even existed. All I wanted was to kill her and I was going to do just that. I thrust the knife at her face and this time, she missed just by the tail. "Damn it! You cannot continue to miss!" I yelled at myself in a loud voice that echoed through the place, not caring if I was heard by others or not.

Before I could say jack Robinson, she landed me a kick on my belly, causing me to reel to the floor. I yelled out in pain, clutching my tummy hard. I wanted to pull attention to the both of us and that happened exactly the way I wanted it to happen.

The alpha king rushed out of the chambers towards where we were with a kind of worry in his eyes. My parents followed closely behind him, looking so worried as well. "What's going on here?" My mother queried with her hands akimbo. From the look on her face, it appeared that Katherine was the major suspect on her list. I decided to play along with it.

"She kicked me in the belly without doing anything to her. I was only trying to tell her that I would miss her once she's gone from here and instead of hearing me out, she kicked me off," I explained and then moaned in pain to make it sound more convincing.

"Oh my goodness! How evil you can be, Katherine," my mother chipped in as she bent low before me, wrapping her hand around me. My father didn't say anything and I found it quite strange. I stole a glance at Alpha Jordan and saw he had his gaze fixed on Katherine. I was infuriated. "Damn it! His attention Should be on me and not that low life bitch," I cursed under my breath.

"What happened Katherine? Did you really push her as she said you did?" He asked her, taking us all by surprise. I, most especially, hadn't expected him to ask her despite hearing my side of the story. I turned my head sharply to him and rose to my feet.

"Are you doubting me now? Didn't I already tell you what she did?" I nagged and bursted into tears, giving loud sobs that were loud enough to irritate anyone.

"No, I'm not doubting you but I think it's right to hear from both cases to prevent partiality of any form," he blurted out and continued with Katherine. "Why did you push her off?"

"She's telling nothing but a lie. I didn't push anyone off intentionally. She took out a knife and was about to stab me with it. I had to defend myself somehow." She said much to my annoyance. I prayed for nothing more than the ground should open up and swallow her at that moment.

"She's telling lies. They are all lies. I have never stabbed anyone and I won't start with her. I was only trying to be friendly with her." I began to cry again, hoping he would pity me and just let the issue die off but I was wrong. He wanted to get to the root of it.

"I'm telling lies right? Why then do you have a knife in your hand?" I felt my world crashing on me the moment she uttered those words. I realised I still had the knife with me and I thought of throwing it away at that moment, but I knew it would be more suspicious if I did such a thing. Their gaze rested upon me, finding the knife sitting pretty just by my side, but not to worry, I had come up with a new excuse that sounded more confusing to the ears.

"I had Collected the knife from a young werewolf who I saw playing with it before I came to meet you. Why would I even want to kill you? You come to think of it? You're not my status and neither are we in the same rank… Now, what is there to want to kill you for? If there's nothing more to be said, I'll like to excuse myself," I blurted out, rolling my eyes with a lackadaisical attitude. I had gone but a few inches when a thought crossed my mind.

"I'm sorry but I need to ask something of you, Alpha Jordan. Can I ask?"

"Sure you can. It's not a problem dear…" he aided me on and I in response flashed a wide grin at him.

"Do you perhaps know her before now because I do not seem to understand why you are defending her this much. She is only an Omega, and to think you spent three bags of gold just to have her.." I inquired, locking my hands together with my lips pursed into an awkward position. I desperately wanted to hear what it was he wanted to say.

"No, I didn't know her before. I met her here and you know, she's quite hardworking and these are the kind of people that we need in our pack. People that would move the pack forward."

"That's great, but are you sure there isn't more to this?" By this time, my father was already staring badly at me but I didn't give a damn. I was ready to get to the end of my questions. "Do you like her?"

The small glass vial felt cold against my palm as I held it up to the morning light filtering through the curtains. Five years. Five years of this poisonous ritual, of swallowing wolfsbane to mask my scent, to delay my heat, to play the perfect, docile Luna. "Just one more day," I whispered to my reflection in the mirror. My eyes looked back at me, dull and lifeless—a side effect of the wolfsbane that had become my constant companion. The poison suppressed not just my wolf, but my very essence. Sasha, my wolf, had been silent for so long that sometimes I wondered if she still existed within me. "The contract expires at midnight," I reminded myself, tipping the vial and letting the bitter liquid slide down my throat. The familiar burn followed, spreading through my chest and settling in my stomach like a stone. "Just one more day of pretending." Today marked both the Silver Moon Pack's annual Moon Festival and my fifth mating anniversary with Alpha Miles Hunter.

The nursery was the only place in the Pack House where the air didn’t feel like it was choking me. It was a small room on the third floor, far away from the Alpha’s luxurious suite—the suite that should have been mine by right, but was currently occupied by a woman who wasn't. "Mama, look," Tommy whispered, holding up a drawing. It was a crude, crayon depiction of a large black wolf standing next to a smaller, golden one. "That's Daddy. And that's me." My heart clenched, a familiar, dull ache that had been my constant companion for seven years. Tommy had never seen Remington’s wolf form up close. My mate, Alpha Remington Stevens, barely looked at our son, let alone shifted for him. To Remington, Tommy was just a reminder of a political shackle he was desperate to break. To me, Tommy was the only reason I was still breathing.

I spread the treaty draft across Greyson's mahogany desk, smoothing the corners with fingers that had negotiated a dozen such agreements over the past seven years. The afternoon light slanted through the office windows, catching the gold embossing on the Silverclaw Pack seal. I'd spent three weeks crafting this proposal—a trade alliance with the Northern Packs that would secure our winter supply lines and strengthen our political position. The door opened. I looked up, expecting Marcus, our Beta, to join us for the strategy session. Instead, Greyson entered with Paris Ramirez clinging to his arm like ivy on a dying tree. My wolf, Aurora, stirred uneasily in my mind. *Something's wrong.* The she-wolf's scent hit me—wild roses and something sharper, more desperate. She wore a dress cut too low for a business meeting, her dark hair cascading over bare shoulders. Her fingers traced possessive circles on Greyson's bicep.

The marble floor was cold beneath my raw, bleeding knees. I scrubbed harder, trying to erase the mud stains from the entrance hall, though my hands trembled with exhaustion. Above me, the Shadowfang Pack's grand Luna Ceremony was in full swing—crystal chandeliers casting golden light over polished wooden floors, expensive wine flowing freely as Thaddeus's loyalists celebrated his official claiming of Virginia Simmons as his Luna. My back ached from the weight of silver chains wrapped around my torso—not enough to kill me, just enough to remind everyone that I was nothing more than an omega prisoner in what was once my home. "Look at her," a passing she-wolf whispered to her companion, her expensive gown rustling as she deliberately stepped around me. "The pathetic little wolfless freak." They thought I couldn't hear them. They thought wrong. Six months ago, I had been Scarlett Andrews, eldest daughter of the Moonstone Pack, with my own wolf—a magnificent silver-white creature with ethereal blue eyes. Now I was... nothing.
