My husband, Brock, wanted to sell me out. Literally. His plan was to drug me and deliver me to his boss, all for the sake of a promotion. But what he didn't know was that my boss, Gill Webb, was gay. He was interested in my husband, not me. He looked me in the eye and asked, “Adeline, you don't want to lose your job, do you?” I sighed, weary to my bones. I really needed this job. My husband, Brock, wanted to sell me out. Literally.

His plan was to drug me and deliver me to his boss, all for the sake of a promotion.

But what he didn't know was that my boss, Gill Webb, was gay. He was interested in my husband, not me. He looked me in the eye and asked, “Adeline, you don't want to lose your job, do you?”

I sighed, weary to my bones. I really needed this job.

After my husband fell into a drugged stupor, my boss appeared at the bedroom door.

Chapter 1

Adeline Carter's POV:

My husband, Brock, wanted to sell me out. Not our cramped New York apartment where we were barely scraping by, and not my grandmother's necklace. He wanted to sell me.

I stared at Brock's phone, left forgotten on the kitchen counter.

A notification flashed. It was a message from his boss, Alvin Thompson.

Curiosity got the better of me. I swiped it open. The screen lit up, revealing a chat history that shattered my world.

Brock had proposed the plan himself. "I can make sure she's completely out. She won't remember a thing. She'll be perfectly submissive."

My hands began to shake violently. The phone nearly slipped from my grip.

"She won't know," Brock had messaged. "It'll be like a dream. She'll think it was me."

He even wrote: "Sir, I am honored that you find my wife so charming. She truly is exceptional."

The message made bile rise in my throat. This wasn't just betrayal; it was a total perversion of everything we were supposed to be.

The plan was set for Saturday night. Our anniversary dinner.

Rage swept through me like a scalding, violent tide. Brock was a monster.

The front door opened. I froze.

Alvin Thompson stood there, his expression grim and shadowed. He held up his own phone, showing the same chat logs.

“Adeline,” he said, his voice flat. “You need to know exactly who your husband is.”

My heart hammered against my ribs. I couldn't find my voice.

Alvin took a step closer. “Adeline, I have feelings for you. Real feelings.” He paused. “But I would never use such despicable means to have you.” He looked directly into my eyes. “Brock's plan is abhorrent. I won't be a part of it.”

He handed me his phone. The messages were all there—longer, more detailed. Brock's desperation, his begging for a promotion, his willingness to sacrifice me. My vision blurred.

“This is outrageous and unforgivable. If you want to take legal action, I will support you. I'll be with you every step of the way.”
