Chapter 1

Sabrina

He was my first love. I spent my youth trying to please him and show my affection. In five years of marriage, I was loved brain. I serve him day and night. I compromise too much, and my business suffers in return.

"Sabrina, hey!" Arin calls, knocking the table.

She's one of my closest friends. "What?!" I roared. They all sighed.

"Look, we already warned you. From the very beginning, we told you that he's not into you," Lily stated.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he marries you just to get close to your cousin, Leah. You are being fooled by him! Harold will never love you!" Hanna added.

I was about to argue when we heard a sound downstairs. The three of us get off the balcony and check what is happening downstairs. I frowned when I saw my husband and Leah kissing each other, undressing each other, and landing on the couch. My friends gasp.

"What the..." Lily covered her lips after we witnessed their infidelity.

"Are you sure she won't be coming home tonight, hmm?" Leah asks.

Grandma and Leah's grandma are first cousins. That made us third-degree cousins. She is also married, and I haven't met her husband. They got married two years ago. "Isn't she married too? These two bastards," Hanna grunted, controlling her voice.

"She won't be coming home. She's told me that she'll be staying in Arin's place. Let's not talk about her, shall we? Thinking of her makes me sick already," Harold stated.

He kissed her again, and they continued to... Arin covered my eyes, and they pulled me away. "Let's hide somewhere. This is a scene that you shouldn't continue to witness, Sabrina..."

My tears fall. We're about to leave when Leah speaks. "Tell me, why did you marry my cousin? Didn't you tell me that you hate her?" she asks. The four of us halt. I took off Arin's hand on my palm.

"That's the reason why I marry her. I want to make her suffer. Because of her, my sister died. If she's not stupid enough to cross the road, my sister won't save her. She died because of Sabrina."

My friends look at me. "Faye was his sister?!" Lily exclaimed in a low tone.

Everything that he made me do was to avenge her sister? I remember when he forced me to kneel in front of the house while it was raining just because I called him during his meeting.

He also hit me with stupid reasons like I forgot to iron his clothes, I bought lunch in his office without telling him, and so on and so forth. I also remember how he didn't stop his mom when she mocked me in a mall last week.

"Oh well, she's really stupid. She didn't know that you marry her to avenge your sister and to..." Leah didn't continue to speak.

"Get close to you? Even if she knew, she won't divorce me. After all... she's stupid enough and afraid of losing me. I'll just coax her. She'll believe everything that I will say," Harold says. My palm formed into fists.

Gabriel

The rain is pouring from the outside. I was standing under the rain, looking at two people who were having an intimate time in a living room. "I can't believe that all these years... you will fool around like this. You told me that you are not ready, and yet..."

My jaw clenched. My palm balls into a fist. I want to punch and break the glass wall and confront my wife, but I... I close my eyes and remember every single thing that she did to me.

The moments where I became her licking dog, wagging my tail and following every single command from her. If she wants to eat something, I'm willing to drive even in the middle of the night. I can also dive in a lake just to find the jade bracelet that she throws because of frustrations.

I became an unfilial son just for her! My mom died with a broken heart because I left her in the hospital because my wife asked me to. The moment I went back, the doctor announced that Mother was dead. I even sacrificed my dream to build a business because she told me not to be ambitious.

That she wants my attention all by herself, but what is this?! "How about your husband, hmm? What if he learned that you..." My wife laughs.

"That dog? He's like my cousin. Stupid and easy to please. I'll just kiss his cheek, and he'll forgive me right away! How cowardly," she mocks.

Leah Ford, the only daughter of the Ford family, who was the richest in two states. She was having an affair with her brother-in-law, the only heir of the Ross family, the richest in this state.

He was married to Sabrina Paige, who gave up her inheritance and cut ties with her grandmother after she chose to marry Harold. I haven't met her because Leah didn't want me to meet her family or even bring me for their gathering.

At first, I believe her lies. She said that I might be bullied by them and didn't want me to get hurt, but... I turned my back. For two years, a kiss on my cheek was the only thing that I received. I never even kissed her on our wedding day.

We haven't consummated our marriage, but I just witnessed how wild she is. That she let other men to... f*ck her. I guess it's time to wake up from my nightmare. I get inside the car and drive away even if I'm dripping wet.

Tomorrow morning, I'll make her sign the divorce agreement, or else I'll expose her infidelity. Let's see what kind of lies she will make. But I'll never believe Leah's lies anymore.

The next morning. Leah turned pale while watching the video that I sent her. I throw the folder in front of her. "It's your choice. Don't make it hard for the two of us, Leah. If you really think that I'll be your licking dog forever, you're wrong. If you won't sign this agreement, let's see how the young lady and young master of the Ford and Ross families handle such a scandal," I threatened.

Leah smacks the table and stands up. "Who do you think you are, huh?!" she roared. "Sign it or else..." I grunted.

The whispers started before I even saw them. I was at Bridget's birthday gala, sipping champagne and laughing at her latest gossip about the Treasury Secretary's son when the room suddenly hushed. The crystal flute froze halfway to my lips as I felt dozens of eyes shift toward the entrance. "Aria," Bridget whispered, her face draining of color. "Don't look now, but—" But I already had. Elliot stood in the doorway, his golden hair catching the chandelier light as it always did. But he wasn't alone. A woman with cascading dark curls and a flowing dress that couldn't quite hide her swollen belly stood beside him, her hand possessively wrapped around his arm. "Is that—?" Someone's voice cut through the silence. "Reyna," Elliot announced, his voice carrying across the suddenly silent ballroom.

The sharp trill of the autopsy suite's phone cut through the steady hum of the ventilation system. I was mid-incision, the familiar scent of formaldehyde and copper heavy in the air, when my assistant held the receiver to my ear. *“Chief Hunt. There’s been an accident outside your son’s school.”* Seattle rain doesn't wash away sins; it only dilutes the blood. The torrential downpour soaked through my trench coat the second I ducked under the yellow police tape outside Nolan’s private academy. Red and blue strobes fractured across the wet asphalt, illuminating the nightmare I had been summoned to witness. At the center of the intersection sat a crumpled silver convertible. And ten yards away, paramedics were pulling a heavy white tarp over a body. My mother. My chest hollowed out, the breath violently expelled from my lungs.
