Rejecting the Unfaithful Alpha Chapter 1

The Silver Creek Pack hall buzzed with excitement as members gathered for our fifth mate bond anniversary celebration. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over the polished wooden floors, and the air was thick with the scent of pine and ceremonial herbs. I smoothed down my midnight blue dress—the one I'd spent weeks selecting for this special occasion—and clutched the velvet box containing my tribute.

"Are you ready?" my mother whispered, adjusting the silver crescent moon pendant around my neck—a gift from Reed when we first bonded.

"I've been ready for five years," I replied, trying to ignore the flutter of nerves in my stomach.

The moonstone crystals inside the box had taken months to source and cost $2,600—a significant portion of my inheritance from my father's side of the family. Each crystal had been blessed under the full moon by our pack's elders, making them not just valuable but spiritually significant. I'd recorded every detail in my leather-bound ledger, as I did with all resources I contributed to Reed's pack.

"Luna Brielle," Elder Samuel Creek nodded as I passed, his weathered face solemn. "May your bond grow stronger with each passing year."

I smiled politely, though his words felt hollow. How could our bond grow stronger when Reed barely acknowledged my existence outside these formal ceremonies?

The crowd parted as I approached the raised platform where Reed stood, his broad shoulders draped in the ceremonial Alpha cloak—silver like our pack name, with black embroidery representing his lineage. His dark eyes swept over me without stopping, already scanning the room for more important guests.

"My Alpha," I said, bowing my head slightly as protocol demanded. "On this fifth anniversary of our sacred bond, I present you with these blessed moonstone crystals from the Northern Territories."

I opened the box, revealing the luminescent stones that seemed to capture and reflect the light. A murmur rippled through the assembly—everyone recognized their value.

"These crystals will strengthen our pack's protective barriers and enhance your Alpha aura during full moons," I explained, my voice steady despite my racing heart. "I acquired them with the hope that they might symbolize the enduring strength of our bond."

Reed's gaze flickered to the stones, then back to the crowd. His jaw tightened almost imperceptibly.

"Accepted," he said flatly, not even reaching for the box. His Alpha tone vibrated through me, commanding rather than grateful. "You may step back now."

The dismissal stung like a physical blow. Five years of devotion, countless resources, and this was all I received? I retreated to my designated place beside his empty chair, fighting back tears that threatened to spill.

Minutes later, a slender figure glided toward the platform. Victoria Sterling from the wealthy Sterling Pack approached, her golden hair cascading down her back and her smile calculated. She wore a dress that hugged every curve, drawing appreciative glances from the male wolves present.

"Alpha Reed," she purred, her voice carrying across the now-silent hall. "I bring a small token of appreciation from my pack."

She extended her arm, revealing a delicate silver bracelet on her wrist. It was beautiful but modest compared to my offering—perhaps worth a few hundred dollars at most.

Reed's entire demeanor transformed. His eyes warmed as they fixed on Victoria's face, and his lips curved into a smile I hadn't seen directed at me in years.

"The Sterling Pack honors us with your presence," he replied, his voice rich with charm. "And such a lovely gift."

I watched in disbelief as he took her wrist gently, examining the bracelet with exaggerated interest. Through our mate bond, I could sense the flirtatious tone of his mind-link with her—a connection that should have been reserved for me alone.

"Perhaps we could discuss the alliance between our packs in private," Victoria suggested, her fingers lingering on his arm.

"Absolutely," Reed agreed, his eyes never leaving hers.

Something broke inside me then—a dam holding back years of hurt and confusion. Without thinking, I stepped forward with the second part of my tribute—rare healing herbs I'd been saving for this moment.

But instead of approaching Reed, my feet carried me toward Atlas Chavez, his Beta, who stood silently observing the exchange.

"For the protection and wellbeing of our pack," I heard myself say to Atlas, extending the package of herbs.

The room fell deadly silent.

Reed's head snapped toward me, his eyes flashing dangerously. "What are you doing?" he growled, his Alpha aura flaring violently.

Before I could explain, he was beside me, gripping my arm painfully. "You dare to present my Beta with tribute meant for me?"

"I—I didn't—" I stammered, but Reed wasn't listening.

"You disrespect our mate bond in front of the entire pack?" he roared, his Alpha command forcing me to my knees. "After everything I've given you?"

The irony of his words struck me as I knelt there, humiliated beyond measure. Everything he'd given me? When had Reed ever given me anything but commands and coldness?

As the pack watched in shocked silence, I realized with crystal clarity that the man standing over me—the Alpha I'd sacrificed everything for—had never truly valued me at all.
