The grand hall of the Silver Moon Pack house had never felt so cold. I stood alone in the center of the circular space, hundreds of eyes boring into me from all sides. The once-familiar faces of my pack members had transformed into a sea of strangers, their expressions ranging from curiosity to disgust. The whispers that had haunted me for weeks had culminated in this moment—this public execution of everything I had ever been. My wolf, Lyra, whimpered weakly inside me. *Stay strong, Victoria. Whatever happens, we face it together.* But Lyra's voice was faint, a mere echo of the powerful presence she had once been. The injuries from the rogue attack three months ago had weakened her beyond recognition, and with each passing day, I felt her slipping further away. The heavy oak doors at the far end of the hall swung open. Alpha Michael Sterling—my mate, my love, my executioner—strode in, his powerful aura washing over the assembly like a suffocating wave.

Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King Chapter 1

The grand hall of the Silver Moon Pack house had never felt so cold. I stood alone in the center of the circular space, hundreds of eyes boring into me from all sides. The once-familiar faces of my pack members had transformed into a sea of strangers, their expressions ranging from curiosity to disgust. The whispers that had haunted me for weeks had culminated in this moment—this public execution of everything I had ever been.

My wolf, Lyra, whimpered weakly inside me. *Stay strong, Victoria. Whatever happens, we face it together.*

But Lyra's voice was faint, a mere echo of the powerful presence she had once been.

My heart constricted painfully at the sight of him. Even now, even knowing what was to come, my traitorous body responded to his presence.

He was magnificent in his fury. His obsidian hair was swept back from his forehead, his jaw clenched in determination. But it was his eyes that broke what remained of my heart—once warm amber pools that had looked at me with such love, now cold and hard as polished stone.

Michael took his position on the raised platform, towering above everyone. The silver circlet of the Alpha glinted on his brow, catching the light from the ceremonial torches.

"Members of the Silver Moon Pack," he began, his voice resonating with authority. "Today we gather to right a wrong that has poisoned our bloodline."

I clutched the small stone from Mount Rainier in my pocket—my only talisman from the day we had sealed our mate bond under the watchful eye of the Moon Goddess. The memory of his tender touch, his whispered promises, felt like they belonged to another lifetime.

"The position of Luna is sacred," Michael continued, his gaze deliberately avoiding mine. "It requires loyalty, honor, and devotion—qualities that have been betrayed."

The murmurs around the hall grew louder. I caught fragments of the lies that had become my reality: "...chose the warrior over the Alpha's father..." "...her secret lover..." "...betrayed the pack..."

Michael's eyes finally locked with mine, and for a fleeting moment, I thought I saw a flicker of doubt, of pain. But it vanished as quickly as it had appeared, replaced by a coldness that chilled me to my core.

"Victoria Sterling," he addressed me directly, his voice dropping an octave as he summoned his Alpha tone—the voice that commanded absolute submission. The hall fell into immediate silence.

I forced myself to stand tall, though my legs threatened to give way beneath me. I would face this with dignity, if nothing else.

"I, Alpha Michael Sterling of the Silver Moon Pack, reject you, Victoria Sterling, as my mate and Luna."

The words hit me like physical blows. Lyra howled in agony inside me, a sound so primal and devastating that it tore through my consciousness. The severing of our mate bond felt like my soul was being ripped in two. White-hot pain radiated from my chest, spreading to every extremity until my entire body was consumed by it.

I collapsed to my knees, unable to remain standing under the weight of his rejection. The stone floor was cold against my palms as I fought to breathe through the excruciating pain.

Through the haze of my agony, I heard the doors open once more. Soft, measured footsteps approached the platform.

"The Moon Goddess provides," Michael announced, his voice now carrying a warmth that had been absent moments before. "In our darkest hour, she has blessed us with a true successor."

I forced myself to look up. Amanda Walsh glided across the hall, her face a mask of serene triumph. Her hand rested protectively over her swollen belly—carrying the child that had sealed my fate. Her scent, vanilla and cinnamon, wafted through the hall, deliberately overpowering any lingering trace of my own.

"The Silver Moon Pack welcomes Luna Amanda and the future heir she carries."

Amanda's eyes met mine, a small, victorious smile playing at her lips as she reached for the Luna pendant—my pendant—that Michael held out to her. With deliberate slowness, she draped it around her neck, the silver wolf gleaming against her throat.

"Take the omega to her new quarters," Michael commanded, turning his back on me. "She will remain with us until the Moon Goddess claims her."

Two Delta wolves approached, their expressions impassive as they lifted me from the floor. As they dragged me away, I caught one last glimpse of Michael embracing Amanda, his hand gently caressing her stomach.

Lyra's voice, barely audible now, whispered in my mind: *We will endure, Victoria. We always have.*

But as the heavy doors closed behind me, I wondered how much more we could possibly endure before we shattered completely.

The pack run had been Marcelo's idea. He'd announced it three days prior at the weekly council meeting, his Alpha tone leaving no room for debate. A show of unity, he'd called it. A reminder that the Black Moon Pack moved as one body, one purpose. I'd watched him from my seat at the far end of the table—the Luna's chair, though I'd stopped feeling like a Luna months ago—and said nothing. Petra Voss had nodded approvingly. The other council members had murmured their agreement. Rosalina, seated closer to Marcelo than protocol allowed, had smiled that soft, adoring smile she always wore around him. I should have known then. The territory's northern river was swollen from early spring melt, the current fast and mean.

Frances survived a horrific car crash, only to return to a suffocating life. Her wealthy husband, Baron, and his domineering mother were now relentlessly pressuring her to adopt a "poor, distant relative" named Jagger as the heir to their billionaire empire. But on her way to sign the adoption papers, a violent vision flashed in her mind. The crash wasn't an accident. She saw her car in flames, while Baron watched with cold, calculating eyes. Beside him stood an older Jagger, who calmly muttered the chilling truth. "The problem is solved." A private investigator soon confirmed her worst nightmares. Jagger wasn't a charity case; he was Baron's illegitimate son. The family had been illegally funneling offshore money to fund his elite lifestyle. Worse, Baron's ultimate plan was to label Frances mentally unstable, lock her away in a Swiss sanatorium for life, and bring in Jagger's biological mother to take her place. For years, Frances had played the perfect, obedient wife in their corporate marriage contract. How could they be so ruthlessly evil, plotting her agonizing death just to legitimize their dirty bloodline and steal her trust fund? But she was no longer the fragile puppet they thought she was. At the high-stakes board meeting, with all eyes expecting her to submit, she put the expensive pen down. "I refuse." Instead of adopting their bastard son, she slammed down an SEC whistleblower threat, forced a new will, and introduced her own handpicked heir. The war had just begun.

The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of Crescent Academy's grand hall, casting golden light across the polished wooden floors. I sat in the front row, my heart swelling with pride as I watched Zander cross the stage. Three years of sacrifice, late nights, and endless support had led to this moment. "Ladies and gentlemen," the headmaster announced, his voice echoing through the hall, "our valedictorian, Zander Campbell, has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills and tactical brilliance throughout his time at Crescent Academy." Zander stepped forward, his tall frame commanding attention. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his ceremonial Alpha robes fit him like they were made specifically for him—which, considering how much I'd invested in his education, they practically were. "Today marks not just an ending, but a beginning," Zander's voice carried confidently across the hall. "A beginning where we will build stronger packs, forge unbreakable alliances, and lead with both strength and wisdom." My fingers traced the intricate patterns on my dress as I listened. Those words—they were from the strategic frameworks I'd developed and shared with him during late-night study sessions. The pride in my chest expanded. This was our victory, our future.
