New Life After Heartbreak Chapter 1

At a class reunion, I accidentally spilled red wine on my fiancé's beloved admirer, Taytum Elliott, soaking her high heels. Emilio, my fiancé, caused a commotion in front of everyone, insisting I clean her shoes. I refused, and he had me stripped down to my underwear and thrown out of the hotel.

A concerned classmate glanced back at me. "Isn't she your fiancée? You're overstepping the line."

Emilio shrugged it off. "Don’t worry. She’s obsessed with me. She’ll never leave me."

In that moment, I felt my heart break. I ended the engagement then and there and signed up to become a doctor in a conflict zone.

When I announced my decision to Princeton Mason, the hospital director, he was both pleased and confused. "It’s commendable that you want to go, but weren’t you planning to get married?"

I pressed my lips together, speaking resolutely. "There will be no wedding. I’m dedicating myself to being a doctor, saving lives."

Princeton paused for a moment but said no more. After completing all the necessary paperwork, I left the office, only to run into Taytum and Emilio in the corridor. Emilio walked into the lab with some test results, unaware of my presence. I wanted to avoid them, but Taytum blocked my path.

Her lips curled into a smug grin. "How does it feel to be publicly humiliated like that?"

"So, you’re about to marry Emilio? He’ll still stand up for me."

I wasn’t interested in arguing. "In that case, I’m giving him to you."

"Giving him to me? You don’t have a say in it. I always come out on top against you!"

Taytum's face twisted into a private smirk she saved for me. Then, suddenly, she looked down, her voice feigning sadness.

"I know you’re angry, sis, and I’m sorry, but don’t blame Emilio."

Just then, Emilio's voice cut through. "Adele! What’s going on?"

"Brother, please don’t be upset. After yesterday, it’s understandable she’d try to hit me."

Taytum bit her lip, tears in her eyes as she glanced at Emilio, looking pitiful. He comforted her, wrapping her in his arms, and glared at me.

"Adele! If you hadn’t been so spiteful, knowing those shoes couldn’t get wet—if you hadn’t ruined them on purpose—I wouldn’t have had to punish you!"

"Not only did you refuse to apologize to Taytum, but you actually tried to hit her. How could you be so heartless?"

"I'm telling you now, apologize to Taytum, or I'll postpone our wedding again!"

My heart, already cracked, shattered into pieces, leaving me speechless with pain. Emilio had postponed our wedding multiple times for Taytum. Out of love for him, I compromised time and again. I never imagined I’d become his bargaining chip.

Before Taytum, he promised that I was his priority. But since her arrival, everything changed. For her, he even humiliated me publicly, as he did the previous night.

Bitterness washed over me, overwhelming like a rising tide.

"Brother, don't blame her. It's Taytum who upset her..."

Taytum muttered apologies, but her eyes showed no remorse. Her mouth curled into a smile full of defiance.

I was burning with fever after last night's ordeal and had no desire to get entangled further with them. I turned to leave, finding myself too weak to stand steady.

Emilio noticed my frailty and reached out, saying, "Adele, you..."

But before he could finish, Taytum clutched her chest and began to cough violently.

"Brother... it hurts."

With that, Emilio rushed past me to her side. My vision blurred with tears, and my eyes burned as I steadied myself against the wall.

In the past, I would have been consumed by jealousy and started an argument with him. But now, my heart was like a withered leaf in the autumn wind—void of joy or sorrow.

I took a deep breath, forcing down the turmoil inside me. I said nothing. In three days, I would leave this place for good. Their world would have nothing to do with me anymore.

The Pierre Hotel smelled like gardenias and old money. I stood just inside the ballroom entrance and let the scene wash over me. Crystal chandeliers threw soft light across a hundred faces I didn't recognize and a dozen I did. Women in gowns that cost more than cars. Men in tuxedos that fit like they were born wearing them. Waiters gliding between clusters of conversation with trays of champagne so pale it looked like liquid gold. Six years ago, I would have been one of those waiters. I took a glass from a passing tray and didn't drink it. My steel-gray gown was custom Valentino, fitted so precisely it felt like armor. It cost more than my entire first-year scholarship at Columbia.

The Inter-Pack Summit's grand hall glowed with ceremonial torches, casting dramatic shadows across the faces of the most powerful Alphas in the region. I stood at the entrance, my silver aura radiating outward in controlled waves—not a display of emotion, but a calculated reminder of the Silvermoon Pack's strength under my leadership. Marcus positioned himself precisely one step behind me and to my right, his presence a silent comfort through our private mind-link. *They're all watching for weakness,* he observed, his thoughts flowing into mine with familiar ease. *Then they'll find none,* I replied, scanning the room with measured indifference. Alpha Kaelen Blackwood approached first, his dark eyes evaluating me with the same predatory calculation I recognized in myself. "Alpha Victoria," he greeted, inclining his head just slightly enough to acknowledge my status without suggesting submission. "Your champion has brought considerable attention to the Silvermoon territory." "As intended," I replied coolly, the subtle tap of my index finger against my thigh the only outward sign of my strategic assessment. Ryan Mitchell had indeed brought attention—attention I had meticulously orchestrated over five years of investment. The rogue I'd salvaged from starvation had been molded into a weapon that now represented Silvermoon dominance in combat.
Between Ruin And Revenge: Her Regret Novel Cover

I worked three double shifts at the garage just to buy a velvet-boxed cake for my wealthy girlfriend, Arleen. But when I pushed open the VIP room door, I saw her lover kissing her bare leg. She didn't push him away. Instead, she laughed and swirled her martini. "I only forgot Finn because I knew he would stay. He is a poor boy from Queens who follows me around like a loyal dog." Later that night, her lover intentionally crashed a Porsche to scare me, sending a piece of jagged metal into my skull. Lying in a growing pool of my own blood, I watched Arleen crawl out of the wreckage. She didn't even look at me. She threw herself at her uninjured lover, screaming for a medic. "He just got scraped by a piece of plastic. He is faking it. Deal with Jaquez first!" When I woke up, I wasn't free. Arleen had locked me in a private hospital wing with 24-hour security, planning to isolate me and keep me as her broken, captive toy forever. My blind, pathetic devotion finally froze into absolute disgust. I looked at the heart monitor next to my bed and grabbed an IV needle. I severed the sensor wire to trigger a flatline, slipped out the fire stairs while the nurses panicked, and burned my identity to ashes. This time, I was going to disappear to London, build my own empire, and watch hers burn.

“Don’t stop,” she whispered. “She won’t come up.” I did. I stopped breathing. Thinking. Existing. The voice came from inside my bedroom—our bedroom. My sanctuary. I stood frozen in the hallway, dinner still warm downstairs, candles flickering in a room that no longer mattered. The scent of truffle butter still clung to my sleeves. Through the door—left carelessly ajar—I saw enough. A woman with auburn hair and wine-colored nails was curled into my husband's side, her lipstick smeared across his throat like a bruise. Her fingers skimmed down his back, possessive, practiced. Oliver moaned softly. A sound I hadn’t heard in months. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I turned. Through the adjoining bathroom, I slipped into the walk-in closet, hiding behind the luxury he insisted I needed. Dresses lined in neat rows. Shoes in pyramids. A fortress of silk and leather and betrayal. I sat down, gripping the hem of my dress, listening. “I don’t know why you’re still stalling,” Lily said, her voice languid and confident. “She’s not stupid, Oliver. She’s suspicious. You said she keeps asking questions.” He sighed. “Let her ask. She won’t do anything. Not until it’s too late.” A beat. “She’s planning something tonight,” he added, almost amused. “Made some kind of fancy dinner. Probably filet again. It’s sweet, in a tragic way.” Lily giggled. “You think she’s figured out we’ve been using her?” “Scarlett sees what she wants to see. She’s desperate. That’s what makes it easy.” There was movement on the bed. Sheets shifting. “She still has no idea about the inheritance?” Lily murmured. “None,” he said. “Her father’s trust releases next month. Once the money hits the accounts, I’ll serve the papers. I’ve already started moving things offshore.” My throat closed. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. So this was what I got from our five-year marriage.

I smoothed down the front of my traditional Luna ceremonial dress, the silver embroidery catching the light as I moved. Three years. Three perfect years with my mate, and tonight I wanted everything to be perfect. "Do you think he'll like the surprise?" I asked my reflection, adjusting the moonstone pendant that had been my mother's. It was the last thing she'd given me before passing, and I wore it only on special occasions. My wolf, Aria, purred with satisfaction. *He'll love it. You've prepared his favorite meal.* I glanced at the dining room table, set with our finest china and candles. The roast was resting, vegetables steaming, and a bottle of aged red wine—Tyson's favorite—hidden in the car for the final touch. "He should be home any minute," I murmured, checking my phone.

It was the only memento my mother had left me. Marley sneered, threw it to the ground, and shattered the gems. When I scrambled to pick up the broken pieces, she dug her high-heeled shoe into the back of my hand, mocking me as dirty trash. No one stepped in to help.
