My Betrayed Mate Stole My Power, I Reclaimed It Chapter 1
The ancient oak trees of the sacred grove stood sentinel around me as I knelt before the moonlit altar, my once-proud shoulders now slumped in defeat. Ten days. Ten agonizing days of whispers, cold shoulders, and downcast eyes from those who once called me sister. Ten days of watching my status as a celebrated warrior of the Silver Moon Pack crumble like sand between my fingers.
My wolf, Luna, howled in anguish within me, her silver spirit dimming with each passing hour. We were dying—not physically, but spiritually. The mate bond that should have strengthened us was instead draining our essence like a slow-bleeding wound.
"Where are you, Ryan?" I whispered, my voice cracking as I traced the ancient runes carved into the stone altar. "Why have you abandoned me when I need you most?"
The sacred grove had always been my sanctuary, the one place where the whispers couldn't reach me. Tonight, the full moon bathed the clearing in ethereal light, illuminating the tears that tracked silently down my cheeks. I pressed my palm against the cool stone, seeking comfort from the ancient power that thrummed beneath my fingers.
That's when I felt it—the unmistakable buzz of a mind-link forming. Not directed at me, but close enough that my heightened senses caught the edges of it. I stilled, holding my breath as the voices clarified.
"It's working better than we anticipated," Ryan's voice, cold and clinical, slithered through my consciousness. "Her wolf is weakening daily. Soon, there will be nothing left to transfer to Zoe."
My blood turned to ice. Ryan—my mate, my partner, my everything for the past three years—was discussing my destruction as casually as one might discuss the weather.
"And you're certain this will work?" Alpha Kane's voice held a note of hesitation. "The transfer of Alpha bloodline powers is... unprecedented."
"It's already working," Ryan replied, his satisfaction palpable even through the distant link. "Three years of carefully orchestrated manipulation. Three years of weakening her wolf while strengthening Zoe's. The pack already sees Stella as broken. They've turned on her completely."
I clamped a hand over my mouth to stifle the sob that threatened to escape. Every tender touch, every whispered promise, every moment we'd shared—all lies. Calculated, cruel lies designed to destroy me from the inside out.
"And she suspects nothing?" Kane asked.
Ryan's laugh was like a knife to my heart. "She believes I've been called away on urgent pack business. The truth is, I'm preparing for the final ceremony with Zoe. Stella was never my true mate—just a means to an end. Her Alpha bloodline is the prize, nothing more."
The silence that followed told me all I needed to know about Kane's complicity. He wasn't objecting. He was allowing this to happen.
I stumbled to my feet, my entire body trembling with shock and rage. The trees around me blurred as I backed away from the altar, desperate to escape the voices that had shattered my world.
In my haste, I snapped a branch underfoot. The sharp crack echoed through the clearing like a gunshot.
"Someone's there," Ryan's voice hissed through the mind-link before it abruptly severed.
I ran. Blindly, desperately, I fled through the trees, branches whipping against my face as Luna howled in agony within me. I had to get away, had to process what I'd just heard.
I didn't make it far before three hulking figures stepped into my path. Pack sentinels—Brock, Damon, and Trent—their expressions twisted with disdain as they blocked my escape.
"Well, look who it is," Brock sneered, his gaze raking over my tattered uniform. "The fallen warrior, skulking around where she doesn't belong."
"I have every right to be in the sacred grove," I said, fighting to keep my voice steady despite the revelation still reverberating through my mind.
"Rights?" Damon laughed, the sound ugly and sharp. "You lost your rights when you proved yourself unworthy of your rank. Unworthy of your mate."
"Tell us, Stella," Trent stepped closer, his breath hot against my face. "How does it feel to be nothing? To watch everyone realize what we've always known—that you're weak. Pathetic. Undeserving."
I pushed past them, their words hitting like physical blows but nothing—nothing—compared to the agony of Ryan's betrayal.
By the time I reached my cabin at the edge of pack territory, my legs were numb, my mind a storm of rage and heartbreak. The door hung askew on its hinges, evidence of yet another violation of what was once my safe haven.
Inside, chaos greeted me. My possessions lay scattered and broken across the floor—books torn, clothes shredded, furniture splintered. They had taken everything from me, piece by piece, day by day.
Everything except the small moonstone pendant that gleamed on the floor amid the destruction. I didn't remember owning it, yet something about it called to me. I knelt and clutched it in my palm, feeling an inexplicable warmth spread through my fingers.
In that moment, clarity cut through my pain like a silver blade. I knew what I had to do.
"I..." my voice trembled, but my resolve hardened. "I reject you, Ryan Blackwood, as my mate."
The words had barely left my lips when searing pain ripped through my chest. My vision darkened at the edges as Luna's howl rose to a fevered pitch inside me. I collapsed to the floor, the pendant still clutched in my hand, as darkness claimed me.
When consciousness returned, I was no longer alone. Through blurred vision, I made out tall figures standing over me, their powerful auras unmistakable.
The Lycan Guard. Sebastian Blackwood's elite warriors.
And somehow, impossibly, I was under their protection.
