Betrayed by My Alpha Mate

The night air carried the scent of pine and something else—something wrong. I paused at the edge of Moonstone Pack territory, my hand clutching the ceremonial silver pendant I would present to Leo tomorrow. Our mate ceremony was less than twelve hours away, but doubt gnawed at me like a persistent wolf. "Leo?" I called softly, scanning the shadowed tree line. "Are you there?" He had asked to meet me here, away from prying eyes and wagging tongues. A private moment before we would be bound forever before the pack. But the silence that greeted me felt heavy, ominous. My wolf, Lily, stirred uneasily within me. *Something's wrong. We shouldn't be here.* I ignored her warning, taking another step forward.

Chapter 1

The night air carried the scent of pine and something else—something wrong. I paused at the edge of Moonstone Pack territory, my hand clutching the ceremonial silver pendant I would present to Leo tomorrow. Our mate ceremony was less than twelve hours away, but doubt gnawed at me like a persistent wolf.

"Leo?" I called softly, scanning the shadowed tree line. "Are you there?"

He had asked to meet me here, away from prying eyes and wagging tongues. A private moment before we would be bound forever before the pack. But the silence that greeted me felt heavy, ominous.

My wolf, Lily, stirred uneasily within me. *Something's wrong. We shouldn't be here.*

I ignored her warning, taking another step forward. The pendant in my palm seemed to grow heavier with each passing second. "Leo?" I called again, louder this time.

A twig snapped behind me. I whirled around, relief flooding through me—only to freeze as three massive rogues emerged from the darkness, their eyes gleaming with malice, their lips curled back to reveal yellowed fangs.

"Well, well," the largest one growled, his voice like gravel. "Look what we have here. A little she-wolf, all alone on the edge of her territory."

My heart hammered against my ribs as I backed away slowly. "I'm not alone," I lied, my eyes darting frantically around the clearing. "My mate is—"

"Running away," the rogue sneered, pointing behind me.

I turned just in time to see Leo's retreating form disappearing into the trees, his shoulders hunched, not once looking back.

"Leo!" I screamed, disbelief and betrayal slicing through me like a knife. "LEO!"

The rogues laughed, a cruel, guttural sound that sent ice through my veins. "Looks like your mate ceremony is canceled, sweetheart," the leader taunted, advancing slowly.

Lily howled in anguish within me, not just from the danger but from the soul-deep betrayal. The pendant slipped from my trembling fingers, landing in the dirt with a soft thud.

The rogues circled me, their movements predatory and coordinated. I backed up until my spine pressed against the rough bark of a pine tree. There was nowhere left to run.

"The pack will know if you hurt me," I warned, my voice steadier than I felt. "Alpha Kincaid will—"

"Will what?" the leader snarled, drawing a silver blade that glinted in the moonlight. "We'll be long gone before anyone finds what's left of you."

I closed my eyes, bracing for the attack, when a deafening roar split the night. My eyes flew open as a massive black wolf burst into the clearing, his Alpha aura crackling with such intensity that the air itself seemed to vibrate.

The rogues hesitated, momentarily stunned by the newcomer's raw power. It was all the advantage he needed. The black wolf lunged, his movements a blur of lethal precision. Two rogues fell back, but the leader stood his ground, slashing wildly with his silver blade.

"Nathan!" I gasped, recognizing the Alpha's distinctive midnight fur.

The fight was brutal and swift. Nathan's jaws closed around the rogue's throat, but not before the silver blade came down in a vicious arc, slicing through fur, flesh, and bone. Nathan's agonized howl pierced the night as his right paw—his hand in human form—was severed clean off.

Blood sprayed across my face and chest as I rushed forward without thinking. The remaining rogues fled into the darkness as Nathan collapsed, shifting back to human form, his severed wrist pumping crimson onto the forest floor.

"Alpha!" I cried, dropping to my knees beside him. "Hold on!"

His eyes, clouded with pain, found mine. "Aria," he gasped, his good hand reaching for me, smearing blood across my cheek. "You're safe now."

Something electric passed between us as our blood mingled—his from the wound, mine from a cut I hadn't noticed on my palm. A warmth spread through my chest, unfamiliar yet undeniable.

Lily whimpered in confusion. *What is this feeling?*

I didn't know, but as I pressed my shirt against Nathan's wound, desperately trying to stem the bleeding, I felt a connection forming—a bond born of blood and sacrifice that would change everything.

Behind us, forgotten in the dirt, lay the mate pendant meant for a coward who had fled without a backward glance.

The bass from the ballroom above thumped through the ceiling of my tiny room, vibrating against my ribs. It was Alpha Hayes Stone’s twenty-eighth birthday. The entire Stoneclaw Pack was celebrating their ruthless, powerful leader. And I, his fated mate, was sitting on a lumpy mattress in the basement, forbidden to attend. I looked down at the braided leather wristband in my hands. I’d spent weeks working the dark material until it was soft enough not to irritate his skin. For five years, I had been Hayes’s secret. Unmarked. Untouched. He claimed he suffered from Bond Aversion—a rare condition where the mere touch of his fated mate caused him debilitating, agonizing pain.

The dining room of the Moonveil Pack house glowed with soft candlelight as I arranged the final moon rose in the crystal vase. My fingers trembled slightly, touching each delicate petal with care. These weren't ordinary flowers—they were symbols of our mate bond, planted by my own hands three years ago when Coleson and I had first claimed this territory as our own. I smoothed the front of my dress, a deep midnight blue that Coleson once said brought out the silver in my eyes. The table was perfect: his favorite wine breathing beside crystal glasses, the rare steak I'd had the pack chef prepare exactly as he liked it. Everything was in place for our third mate anniversary—a night I'd been planning for weeks, hoping it might bridge the growing distance between us. My wolf stirred faintly within me, a sensation I'd almost forgotten. She'd been so quiet these past months, retreating deeper inside as Coleson's attention had turned elsewhere. *Tonight will be different*, I promised her, and myself. The grandfather clock in the hallway chimed nine.

The morning air carried whispers that cut deeper than any claw. I stood at the edge of the Silverstone Pack's eastern boundary, my fingers absently tracing the Luna pendant at my throat as I overheard two Delta wolves speaking in hushed tones during the territorial patrol. "Have you seen how Alpha James looks at her?" The younger one, Tara, glanced around nervously before continuing. "The way he cleared his schedule yesterday just because Liliana mentioned wanting to see the northern ridge?" "Twice this week he's canceled pack meetings to meet with her privately," the older wolf, Marcus, added. "And did you notice how he wore that silver cufflink she gifted him? Never seen him wear anything but pack insignia before." My chest tightened, but I kept my expression neutral as I approached them. Eight years as Luna had taught me to wear a mask of calm even as my inner wolf, Nova, stirred restlessly within me. "Luna Nia," they both straightened immediately, heads bowing slightly. "We were just—" "Discussing pack security, I hope," I said, my voice carrying the subtle weight of my position without resorting to Luna command. "The eastern border has been vulnerable since the last full moon." "Yes, Luna," they replied in unison, but I caught the flicker of guilt in their eyes.

After my mate’s betrayal, I found myself sifting through his old phone. There, buried deep in his messages, were conversations that revolved around another she-wolf’s name with every word. "Lulu, if not for the pack’s interests, Amelia Bennett wouldn’t hold my attention for a second." "Every encounter with her makes me sick; you’re the one I truly love." Reading these affectionate yet damning words made my heart feel as if it had turned to ash. When I blinked again, I found myself revisiting the day the Bennett and Harper packs arranged their union. This time, I chose to let go willingly and decided to mate Ayden Harper, Emmett’s aloof and proud uncle. --- In the grand hall of the Silver Moon Pack, my father, Gamma Bennett, suddenly stood from his seat, his broad frame towering over the room. "Lia, are you sure you want to mate the Alpha of the Red Claw Pack?" With firm resolve, I replied, "Yes, Father, I’m sure." After a long pause, he sighed, his strong jaw tightening. "Alright, if that’s your decision, I’ll inform Alpha Harper." Once Father left, Emmett burst into the hall, his presence commanding despite his rogue status. "Amelia, the pack healer said if Lulu doesn’t undergo surgery soon, she might not make it through the year." "When will you finally donate your bone marrow to her?" I looked at him coldly, memories of a past life flooding in. Back then, I had been manipulated into undergoing a bone marrow transplant.

On the fifth anniversary of their mate bond, Alpha Jeremiah Pierce of the Silver Fang Pack gave Anais a night she would never forget—by forcing her to drink bourbon until she could no longer stand. “Alpha, I really can’t drink any more…” Anais's voice cracked as she pleaded, her Omega status making her voice tremble under the weight of his Alpha aura. He sneered, leaning down to meet her tear-stained eyes, his towering frame casting a shadow over her. “Your parents loved booze so much, they drank themselves into a crash that wiped out my entire family. As their daughter, you must love it too, right?” “I’m sorry,” Anais whispered, her eyes filled with despair. The words had become a mantra, repeated so often they were just a sound. “But my parents paid for it with their lives. Isn’t that enough?” “Can their deaths bring my family back?” His grip tightened painfully on her chin, almost crushing it. “Anais, it’s only been five years. You’re telling me you can’t handle it?” He released her, gesturing to the two Delta warriors behind him.

The note had said it was urgent Omega business. Something about inventory at the old warehouse on the pack borders. I should have known better. "Rebecca Allen." The voice sliced through the damp air of the abandoned warehouse. "How kind of you to join us." My heart stuttered painfully in my chest. Alpha Jayson Warren stood before me, his broad shoulders blocking the dim light filtering through the dusty windows. Beside him, Briana Dunn's red lips curved into a predatory smile. "I—I received a notice about Omega duties," I stammered, clutching my bag tighter. The scent hit me then—pine and winter frost, intoxicatingly powerful. My knees weakened.
