— Quiero a mi mamá.

— ¡Eleonor ¿Qué has hecho?!

The scent of fresh moonflowers filled the great hall as I adjusted the last silver lantern, my fingers trembling slightly with anticipation. Tonight was supposed to be the most important night of my life—my formal Luna welcoming ceremony. The full moon's light streamed through the high windows, casting an ethereal glow across the polished wooden floors where dozens of pack members bustled about, preparing for the celebration. "It's perfect, Isabella," whispered Lydia, my closest friend, squeezing my hand. "You'll be the most beautiful Luna the Blackwood Pack has ever seen." I smiled, though my stomach fluttered with nerves. Six months had passed since I'd first locked eyes with Marcus across the crowded pack meeting, since that intoxicating scent of pine and wild earth had enveloped me, confirming what the Moon Goddess had ordained—we were fated mates. Tonight would make it official. "Nervous?" Lydia asked, adjusting the silver crescent moon pendant at my throat. "A little," I admitted. "But it feels right.

Andrew Collins died the way he lived — performing strength he no longer had. It happened during the shift. Three senior pack members were there. They said it was quick. They said it with the careful, neutral faces of people who had already decided what version of events the pack would receive. By the time the news reached me, it had already been shaped into something dignified: the Alpha had passed during a ceremonial shift, his wolf at peace, his legacy intact. I stood at the funeral rites in the dress a Luna is supposed to wear. I kept my hands folded. I kept my face arranged. I had been practicing that face for two years — the composed, grateful, quietly grieving widow.

The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of the pack house as I settled into my office, the familiar weight of Luna responsibilities grounding me in routine. Ten years of leading the Silvermoon Pack alongside Augustus had taught me to find solace in the predictable rhythm of territorial reports and pack disputes. I spread the latest boundary assessments across my mahogany desk, noting the increased rogue activity near our eastern borders. The warriors' reports required my attention, but first, I needed to handle the domestic squabble between the Morrison twins over hunting territory assignments. Such petty conflicts seemed insignificant compared to the larger threats we faced, yet maintaining pack harmony meant addressing every grievance with equal gravity. "Luna Harper," Beta Ryan Mitchell knocked softly before entering. "The Morrison situation has escalated. They're refusing to speak to each other, and it's affecting their patrol efficiency." I nodded, already formulating a solution. "Schedule separate meetings with each of them this afternoon. Sometimes siblings need space to air their grievances before they can find common ground." Ryan's expression relaxed.

The Moonstone Pack House blazed with lights that seemed too bright, too grand for what should have been our intimate tenth anniversary celebration. I clutched the small wrapped gift in my hands—a hand-carved wooden wolf figurine I'd spent weeks perfecting—and stared at the elaborate decorations that transformed our usual gathering space into something I didn't recognize. This wasn't the quiet dinner Maverick had promised. Crystal chandeliers cast dancing shadows across walls draped in rich burgundy fabric, and the air hummed with conversations in voices I'd never heard before. Dozens of wolves moved through the space with an elegance that made my simple blue dress feel woefully inadequate. "Who are all these people?" I whispered to myself, scanning the crowd for Maverick's familiar dark hair and broad shoulders. A group of men near the bar caught my attention—their postures screamed authority, their expensive suits tailored to perfection. One of them, a silver-haired Alpha with commanding presence, gestured toward the main hall. "The Alpha King has outdone himself this year," he said, his voice carrying easily over the music. "Though I'm surprised he's chosen to host here instead of the royal pack house." Alpha King?

“You’re a Reed, Savannah. You’re supposed to fear the dark, not beg for it to swallow you whole.” Grayson’s voice was a low, vibrating growl against the column of my throat, his hands bruising my hips as he pinned me to the rough bark of a sweet gum tree. I should have shifted. I should have clawed his chest open. Instead, I arched into him, my pulse thrumming a frantic rhythm that only a predator could hear. “Then be the monster they say you are,” I whispered, my fingers tangling in his dark, messy hair. “Show me what a Cole does to a girl who has nothing left to lose.” He didn't just show me. He ruined me. THE REED PACK CALLED ME A FAILURE. Born wolfless into a dynasty of Alphas, I was the girl with no claws in a world built on blood. To my father, Mason Reed, I was a bartering chip. To my sister, Vanessa, I was a shadow. I was destined for a political mating and a silent life—until I met Grayson Cole. THE COLE PACK CALLED HIM A TIME BOMB. A "scrapper" from the salvage yards on the edge of the territory, Grayson was the son of a drunk and the heir to a legacy of violence. He was the boy with the raw knuckles and the silver eyes that saw right through my human skin. ONE NIGHT AT THE IRON BRIDGE CHANGED EVERYTHING. What started as a secret trade of forbidden scrolls and stolen glances ignited into a primal fire that threatened to burn both our houses down. In the dark of the storehouse, we weren't enemies. We were two broken souls finding a home in the heat of the moment—limbs tangled, skin stinging, and the heavy weight of a fated bond neither of us was supposed to have. BUT SECRETS HAVE TEETH. When the sacred chronicles of the Reed Pack go missing, the blame falls on the boy I love. My father calls for his head. My pack demands blood. And as I stand on the balcony watching the torches gather for a hunt, I realize the most terrifying truth of all: Grayson didn't just steal our history. He’s the only one who can survive the future. He’s coming back. Not as a scrapper. Not as a thief. He’s coming back as the Shadow Alpha. And he’s coming for me.
