Years later, their paths accidentally crossed. "Please give me a chance, Amee."

"Why? So that you can toss me again by saying ‘Thank you." She asked coldly.

1: Is she here?

I smiled, looking at myself in the mirror. I had worn a pink satin draped tail floor-length gown, featuring a bodycon corset and thigh-high slit, and matching golden heels.

This was the last time I was going to fit inside this beautiful gown because I doubted that after pregnancy I would be this slim. I smiled again at that thought.

I couldn’t believe that I was pregnant and that Massimo was going to be a father now. My chosen mate, Massimo De Luca, was the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. And I had been in love with him from the moment I met him; I didn't even know the meaning of love. So, when he asked me to marry him, I didn’t think twice before saying yes. Only to realize that Massimo wanted just a perfect Luna for his pack, nothing more than that.

I knew that discovery hurt me a lot, but by putting on a happy face, I did what Massimo expected of me in the hope of him falling in love with me someday, and it had been two years since that incident.

I didn’t know whether he fell in love with me or not, but yes, he told me that he was ready to have a family with me a week before, and tada, like the perfect and dutiful Luna that I was.

I granted him his wish to give an heir to the pack.

I couldn’t wait to share this news with Massimo tonight after the Mating ball.

I used extra perfume to hide the change in my scent that a female werewolf's body showed at the time of pregnancy.

"I don’t like waiting, Amee! Why the hell are you taking..." Massimo walked inside the room, complaining, and he stopped speaking when his eyes landed on me. I didn’t miss how his eyes traveled from top to bottom, admiring my features, but as usual, he didn’t say a single word as a compliment.

Not that I was expecting it.

"And why have you bathed in perfume? I can’t stand anywhere around you with this smell." He complained, trying to change the topic.

I smiled and walked towards the closet to get a tie to match my gown. I returned to him within a few seconds. I didn’t miss how he quietly observed my every move. A moment before, he complained about my perfume, and now he was standing an inch away while I was helping him with the tie.

Through other people's eyes, he was a man full of red flags, but it was totally different in my eyes. Again, I wasn't someone who was love-blind. It was just that I was the one who knew him better than anyone else.

I knew he was in love with the little girl who saved his life. Only if he knew that the girl for whom he had been searching for years was standing in front of him.

But at the same time, I knew it wasn’t love. It was just gratitude or any feeling that one would feel for the person who saved his life. After all, how much did he know about that girl except for her nickname?

Moreover, I foolishly asked that little boy to choose me as his mate when we grew older.

Sometimes, I wondered if I should tell him about that.

But then, I wanted him to love me for me, not because I saved his life.

"You look handsome," I complimented.

"I always do. Tell me something that I don’t know."

Well, that was the truth; he always looked handsome, even in simple trousers and a T-shirt.

"Hmm, Done. You can check it in the mirror."

"Not required. I know you’re perfect in it," He said before adding, "Now hurry up; all the unmated males and females are waiting for us." I nodded my head. I knew they were excited to find their fated mate. A blessing from the Moon Goddess.

Sometimes I wondered if the Moon Goddess would punish me for not waiting for my fated mate and choosing Massimo as my mate.

I kind of rejected her gift, didn’t I?

*

After an hour's drive, we finally reached the venue. I didn’t miss the change in Massimo’s demeanour the moment he stepped inside the venue.

My grip on his arms tightened as I thought about the worst thing possible. Massimo was twenty-one years old now, and it had been three years since he hadn’t found his fated mate.

He turned his head and looked at his arms, which I had held tightly.

‘What kind of behavior is it?’ He questioned himself, walking inside while his eyes roamed around, searching for someone. ‘Didn’t we agree to let each other go if we found our fated mate?’ he questioned through the mind link.

No need to remind me of that, because I really believe that there was a chance for us when you told me that you wanted to have a family with me.

I didn’t say it loudly or answer back because I was too hurt to say anything. More than that, I had to plaster a smile on my face and look at everyone; after all, I was a perfect Luna. I had to act normal even when thousands of needles were poking my heart.

‘Is she here?’ I asked, masking my pain behind my smile.

‘Yes, the girl in a white gown.’ He responded, and I finally looked at the woman who was his fated mate. As much as I was in pain, I didn’t miss noticing how similar our hair color and eyes were, as if we were sisters from the same mother.

She was looking between Massimo and me from time to time with a painful expression.

‘Dad brought you to my pack from the orphanage. Do you think that she could be your sister? Elder or younger?’

I never felt bad whenever Massimo mentioned ‘my pack’ instead of ours, but for some reason tonight, I couldn’t take his words in a positive way. Maybe I was not able to use my mind properly and was scared to lose him.

‘I’m the only child of my parents. No need to compare me with your mate,’ I couldn’t help but snap at him, and I gave a small nod to Luna of the neighbouring pack with a smile.

I felt his eyes on me, but I looked at him with a smile. ‘I just thought... but never mind, you're too blinded by jealousy to understand anything. But what I don’t understand is why. I never promised you... He stopped when he realised something.

‘I hope you aren’t pregnant yet, are you?’

‘What is going on in your mind, Imo?’ Instead of answering his question. I finally asked him directly. I wasn’t a fool who couldn’t see how his eyes weren’t leaving his mate until I snapped.

‘For now, I want to talk with her. But at the same time, I don’t want to hurt you in any way, Amee.’ Did he ever realise how much his blunt words hurt me sometimes?

How should I react to this? Whether I should be happy if my chosen mate wanted to go near another woman by telling me, Or whether I should be laughing that he didn’t want to hurt me but was doing just the opposite of it?

‘And what do you want to discuss with her? Are you going to reject her or me?’ I asked while guiding both toward the bar counter.

‘Corni wants her. He responded like a weak person, blaming his wolf. What about him? I very well knew that every wolf desired his or her fate over being chosen. So, I couldn’t blame Corni for that. It was his nature and mate bond because of which he wanted her.

Massimo ordered wine for both of us. As much as I wanted to drink it to get rid of the pain inside my heart. I couldn’t

All I did was smile.

‘And you deserve better,’ He added after taking a moment. Hah! The same clingy line that people use to get rid of another person in the relationship. I tried not to scoff, and I asked for a cocktail instead of wine. His eyes narrowed at that part, but he didn’t ask anything.

‘Of course. I do. Just like you found your mate, I’m sure I will find mine sooner or later.’ I responded with a smile and watched him flinch at my words. What? We could both play the game of hurting each other, Imo. I was so pissed at his words that I wanted to say a lot of mean things to him, but I didn’t. I couldn’t because he wasn’t doing the same to me.

He wasn’t being mean to me. He wasn’t saying hurtful things to me, so why would I?

"Excuse me?" I excused myself to leave there immediately because I was so done with putting a smile on my face. I had to use the restroom to cry my heart out.

Little did I know the woman I didn’t want to see was already in the washroom, washing her face. I wanted to ignore her just like a person suffering from the disease, but accidentally, our eyes met. Her eyes were bloodshot red, along with her nose.

It was clear that she was crying, maybe because she saw her mate with me.

I couldn’t blame her for that until my eyes landed on her neck and cheek. It looked like someone slapped her and tried to choke her.

"Who did this to you?" I asked her, reaching for her and assessing her injuries. I was also a medical student, except for the perfect Luna. So, this was the future doctor inside me who was concerned for the person in front of me.

She jerked my hand away when I touched her neck and glared at me.

"What is so special about you because of which my mate is not ready to leave you even though it has been five days already since we met?" She questioned me.

To be honest, I didn’t know the answer to her question, but what caught me off guard was the fact that Massimo learned about his fated mate five days before and hadn’t talked to me about it.

What was he thinking all these five days?

With that, she left there angrily, as if I wasn’t the one who entered her mate’s life after her. But maybe she wasn’t wrong at her place too.

This was the effect of the mate bond. My eyes traveled to the wall where that woman was washing her face. I headed towards it and touched the red liquid, which had ruined the white decor of the wall.

Blood.

Whose blood was that?

That woman?

Who would have hurt her? I couldn’t help but start playing Sherlock Holmes, checking the whole washroom, and there was no one except me.

All my plans to cry went out the window because of this incident. So, I walked out of the washroom, wondering whether I should inform Massimo about it or not.

And the moment I opened the door, I saw Massimo outside the door, and his nose was flaring like a pissed dragon. What shocked me was that his anger was directed at me. I saw his fated mate staring behind him, wiping her crocodile tears or real tears; I didn’t know.

"How could you?" He asked. I wasn’t a fool; I already knew what that witch would have fed him against me. This was nothing new. These tricks were too old, but unfortunately, Massimo fell for them.

At the same time, I wanted to laugh at my image in his eyes. I gave him ten years of my life by staying beside him, and he still believed a woman whom he had met five days before.

Finding the fated mate was one thing and losing his mind was another.

"I would have never let you follow Amelia to the washroom if I had known you were planning to kill her out of jealousy."

My eyes thinned, and I stared at the woman behind him after learning her name. First, her eyes and her hair; now her name.

This wasn’t some sort of coincidence that these things matched mine.

Amelia was my name.

"Eye on me. Dare you to threaten her again, or you will see the worst side of me, Amee?" He warned, raising his voice, at which I smiled, nodding my head.

I knew I was going to cry a lot after reaching home.

"In fact, I will make sure that this won’t happen again." My heart thudded, realising what was coming next. Though a part of me wished him to think about his decision wisely because his tone had calmed down while speaking the previous sentence, "Thank you for being an amazing Luna, Amee, and handling my pack. Now, it's time to step down from your position and also to reject each other."

And there I thought he would take his decision wisely.

I looked between him and his fated mate. How easily he asked me to step down from my position by saying two words. But then again, it was his pack, never mine.

His pack, his rules.

They were standing together while I was standing opposite them—a place where I belonged now.

"Okay," I agreed without throwing any tantrums. "Give me two days' time," I added. I had recently found out about my pregnancy. If I reject him or accept his rejection tonight, then I might end up losing my pup, and I couldn’t risk that.

"And for the next two days, I don’t want to see your face because it will remind me that you didn’t care to share the fact that you found your mate five days ago," I taunted with a smile. I knew that he didn’t cheat on me even though he had found his mate; otherwise, I would have felt that through the bond.

But then, it wasn’t something to be proud of either.

"What’s wrong with you, Amee? You never behaved like this."

"Well, my action is the reflection of your action," I said, looking between them. "Congratulations to both of you!" I added again, bitterly smiling. Turning my heels, I walked away from there, trying my best not to shatter like glass after all the damage that one person had done to me.

3: Divorce Agreement

Felicity

*

I returned to the mating ball because of the responsibilities of the Luna of the pack. Even though these are the last few days of this role from now on, I wouldn’t abandon it.

I checked the time before texting our family lawyer’s number to meet me at the packhouse for the preparation of the divorce agreement tomorrow. I knew he would keep this to himself, so I wasn’t worried about this news traveling like fire in the forest.

I personally congratulated those pack members who found their mates while cheering for those who couldn’t find their mates tonight.

Soon, Massimo joined me, and we acted like a perfect couple to avoid any gossip.

*

"You know that I can sense your feelings even though you’re good at faking your smile," He said while dancing. Since we were doing the Waltz, we had to come close to each other every few seconds, and his closeness was affecting me. It was breaking the tough face that I had maintained.

"Your point?"

He hissed before speaking, "You started showing your true color after learning about my fated mate."

"So what were you expecting? I will cry and beg in front of you?" I asked him with a scoff. "I won’t give you the satisfaction of seeing my tears, Alpha Massimo De Luca."

"Seeing this side of yours, I feel like I never knew you," He commented.

"As if you spent time getting to know me. Tell me, what’s my favorite color or favorite food?" I smiled sadly when he had no answer to my question. "I’m leaving. Tell everyone that I was sick," I said when the dance was about to come to an end.

"Sick? Are you pregnant?" He questioned.

"No. That’s an excuse for others." I tried my best to lie perfectly. A part of me wasn’t okay with that. I shouldn’t be lying to a father about his pup, but another part of me wanted to know whether he wanted his pup or not.

"I still want you to visit the hospital tomorrow and get a check-up. The last thing I want to receive is any unwanted surprise or you raising my heir alone after leaving here," I controlled myself from slapping right at his cheek in front of everyone.

He asked me to become his chosen mate.

He asked me to start a family.

He asked me to leave.

Now he was asking me this.

"Well, after knowing what an asshole you are, I will get rid of your little thing instead of raising him or her," I said, gritting my teeth. Immediately, his hazel eyes flashed blue, and he left my hand that he had been holding for dance.

‘Leave before I end up embarrassing you in front of everyone in anger,’ He said in a very pissed tone. I didn’t stay a second there to calm down his anger.

After all, he wasn’t mine anymore.

*

I screamed in pain, and hot tears rolled out of my eyes. I didn’t know how long I would cry thinking about everything. This should have been the happiest day of my life, but it turned into a nightmare.

The pain of heartbreak was already enough for me, but what I wasn’t expecting was the pain of betrayal. I didn’t know what exactly was going on between them, but I was going crazy thinking about everything that could have happened if two fated mates were left alone in a room.

I recalled how I met Massimo for the first time, and since then I have wanted him as my mate.

I was six years old when my parents sent me to summer camp, but unfortunately, rogues attacked our camp, kidnapping almost all the Alpha pups.

I wiped my tears, recalling how he took the hit that was supposed to be for me because I didn’t stop crying even when they ordered me to.

That incident had printed itself into my mind like a trauma because I had watched them hit Massimo because he didn’t want anyone to touch me.

I didn’t know what was exactly happening at that moment because I was busy crying, but later I learned from Dad that they were planning to sell a female Alpha heir. In fact, they were also successful in selling most of them.

The only reason I was left behind was that those rogues were busy torturing Massimo by holding me captive. At the same time, they wanted to check to what extent a male Alpha heir could handle the pain.

The boy who had saved me from enormous pain at that moment had given me this extreme pain.

I wished he wouldn’t have saved me that night. Then I wouldn’t have saved his life.

I wish I had dropped the idea of finding him again.

I wish I would have listened to My dad when he told me to focus on myself instead of running behind him.

*

"Luna!" I heard a soft knock at my door. "Michael Smith is here." I heard Isla, the head omega voice, from the other side of the door. Michael Smith was none other than the lawyer whom I had asked to visit me tomorrow.

Why did he come so early?

I looked at the clock, and I realised that it was five in the evening.

Fuck! My pup would have been hungry. That was the first thought that came to mind. I couldn’t risk my pup's life because of my stupidity.

‘Ask him to wait for me in the garden,’ I responded through the mind link because she wouldn’t be able to hear my voice as the room was soundproof. One could hear what was going on outside, but this rule didn’t apply to the person if he or she tried to hear the conversation going on inside the room from outside.

I stood up on my feet and felt a little dizzy because of the weakness, whether it was because of a lack of food or sleep or because my body used all its power to build a shield around my heart to handle the pain of betrayal.

I looked at my miserable state in the mirror. My beautiful chocolate-brown hair looked no less than the nest of a bird. It was hard to believe that this was the same beautiful hair that was perfectly done by the beautician.

All my makeup had been ruined, and I looked more like a scary witch than a beautiful Luna.

I laughed at the woman in the mirror because no one but herself was the reason behind this state. I walked into the bathroom to freshen up.

The natural glow had disappeared from my face, so I had to use makeup to look normal. I used goggles to cover my red eyes.

I smiled, looking at my reflection, and she smiled back at me. I wore a yellow pencil skirt that reached my knees, matching it with a white and black baggy top. I chose white stiletto heels to match my top and goggles with a yellow lens to match my skirt.

Perfect.

I walked out of the room like nothing had happened last night. I smiled when Omegas bowed their heads. I knew that I smile a lot in all situations.

That was because of the trauma that I had in childhood. I was crying a lot after getting kidnapped and also when they were hitting Massimo. That was when I learned that crying would solve anything; in fact, a lot of people enjoyed watching you cry.

"I’m sorry for making you wait for this long, Uncle Michael," I said, grabbing the seat in front of him. He smiled sadly. Something told me that he already knew everything in detail, so I called him. I didn’t know I was this hungry until I saw the snacks on the table. "Please don’t mind me. I’m just a little hungry," I said, smiling sheepishly.

"Who can say that you are the same woman who cried the whole night because of the pain of the heartbreak?" He commented, making me arch my brow, "I couldn’t help myself from thinking about whose divorce agreement you were talking about last night, so I called Massimo in the morning to know the whole thing because your number was switched off."

I stayed quiet when he was speaking, enjoying my snacks.

"If his parents would have been alive, then they would have been very upset with all this incident." Uncle Michael spoke, taking out the file from his bag. I knew Massimo’s father was fond of me from day one. I had never met his mother, but his father always used to say that his mate would have loved me more than him.

I picked up the file, taking a pause from eating, to see what it was.

‘Divorce Agreement’

I looked at him for an explanation. If I didn’t tell him the points that I needed in the agreement, then why did he already prepare the agreement without discussing it with me?

"As I told you, I talked with Massimo in the morning. That was when he learned about the divorce agreement, and he asked me to prepare the agreement based on his terms and conditions." Uncle Michael spoke, and my jaw tightened.

Couldn’t he handle the fact that I was the one who was planning to prepare for a divorce agreement, not him?

But never mind; the agreement was already in my hand, and my stomach churned observing his signature on it. He could have made it less painful for me by not signing it first.

Was he that eager to get rid of me?

"He also told me that after signing this agreement, you won’t be allowed to stay in the packhouse anymore," Uncle Michael said, to which I nodded my head and read the agreement. "He knows your dream of becoming a lawyer. That’s why he has been very generous about the alimony." He added when he realized the page I was reading.

As per the contract, Massimo was offering me ten billion, a penthouse, a car, and all other expenses until I was fully independent.

I wanted to ask why they offered me so much money. Was this the cost of taking my virginity by giving me false hope?

"Becoming a lawyer?" I chuckled, and he looked at me in confusion. "I’m a medical student, Uncle."

"Oh, my bad!’ He apologized, saying, "I’m sure he knows about it. The change in the profession is my mistake," He explained.

"It’s okay, I won’t mind," I smiled politely before starting to sign the first paper.

"You do know that you need to leave the packhouse immediately if you sign it now," He reminded me again. I smiled and signed all the papers. I handed it over to him once it was signed.

"I’m leaving right now, Uncle Michael. Take care," I said, standing on my feet. I had barely taken a few steps when I saw Isla coming towards me with my purse and the car key. I thanked her before walking towards the red Ferrari 488 in the parking lot.

Throwing my purse in the passenger seat, I grabbed the driver’s seat and wasted no time leaving there.

4: In case you are pregnant

Felicity

*

After the three-hour drive, I finally reached Massimo’s Grandpa’s cottage, where he was spending the last couple of years of his life in memory of Grandma.

Others would learn about all this divorce and rejection sooner or later. I wanted him to learn about this from me because Massimo didn’t know how to talk with his Grandpa because they never got along, especially after Massimo chose me as his chosen mate.

Grandpa wanted him to choose anyone but me.

"If you’re here to say Goodbye for the last time, then say it and leave." I heard his voice from the kitchen as I walked inside his small and beautiful cottage. I wasn’t eyeing his homely cottage, but I loved the place where it was built between a field of colorful flowers, along with the way it was maintained by the one and only Grandpa. "If you’re planning to ask for this cottage as alimony, then remember that this belongs to me, not Simo." Finally, he came out of the kitchen with a spatula in his hand.

"Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’m not planning to ask for it."

"You weren’t going to get this anyway." He said it like a pup, making me chuckle. "Now say it and leave because I knew that’s why you’re here for the last time."

"I was thinking if I can cook dinner for you tonight? How about celebrating my divorce?" I asked, walking past him inside the kitchen to see what he was cooking. I asked his permission, but I didn’t care to wait for his answers.

My mouth watered when I found mushroom risotto on the stove. It was my favorite, and not to forget, Grandpa was a great cook. I looked around and found a pizza base on the counter.

"You were making pizza?"

"Do you have a problem with that?"

"No. I was just wondering when you started eating these types of things," Grandpa glared at me, to which I gave him a sly smile. He wouldn’t admit it, but I knew that it was for me. "I’m going to prepare Tiramisu, your favorite," I said, looking for coffee.

"Why are you preparing my favorite dinner, Grandpa?" I asked softly while working on Tiramisu. I couldn’t believe this old man; he was asking me to leave and preparing my favorite food at the same time. It looked like he knew that I wouldn’t leave that easily.

"Because, unlike my fool grandson, I know you will not just leave him but leave this pack as well as this country, and I’m not sure I will be alive to see you again." My breath hitched, and I looked at him with wide eyes.

How could he know my plan?

I hadn’t shared it with anyone.

"I know you’re not an orphan or omega because of how you've acted for the past ten years." My throat started getting dry after hearing him. I wondered whether I should run and save my life or stand here in front of him like a fool while waiting for my death. "Don’t worry, I won’t kill you just the way your mother killed my other son," He added calmly, keeping the pizza in the oven.

That was the reason that I had to hide my identity because my dad’s pack and Massimo’s pack were enemies. It's not that they wanted to go to war, but they didn’t stand by each other because of the drama that happened before my birth.

"That was why you were against Massimo choosing me?" I asked, to which he nodded his head.

"Don’t get me wrong, but I thought that you were here to kill Simo when I learned who you were." I shook my head at his words. I wasn’t here for that purpose. I didn’t explain myself after realizing that he had used the past tense in the sentence. "I wondered how you convinced your parents in this play." He asked curiously.

"I couldn’t," I said, shaking my head. "I blackmailed them; after all, I was their princess."

Maybe that was why all this was happening to me. I left my family for Massimo, and now...

"You shouldn’t have done that," Grandpa said, bringing me out of my thoughts.

I knew that, Grandpa. I knew that.

"So, are you happy now that I’m finally leaving your grandson’s life?" I asked with a sad smile.

"Of course I’m. Now I can live peacefully without getting disturbed by you every weekend." He responded, making me grin. Though I knew he loved staying alone, I used to make sure to visit him once a week, even though he used to complain about his peace getting ruined by my arrival.

"Can I use your phone?" He nodded his head and took it out of his apron. I dialed my dad’s number from his phone instead of mine because I had a gut feeling that Massimo would look for me if I disappeared all of a sudden.

I knew he would for sure, and I didn’t want to leave any trace behind me in any way.

"Hello,"

"Dad."

"Amee!! Whose number is this? Do you know how impatiently we were waiting for your call? You told us that you had good news to share yesterday, but then we didn’t hear anything from you."

"Amelia, did you tell him the real truth? You’re leaving a fake life, and your relationship is built on nothing but lies. And trust me, sweetheart, these types of relationships don’t last for long." I heard Mom’s voice.

"By the way, what is the good news?" Dad butted in.

"Are you pregnant?" Mom asked. I watched Grandpa look at me sharply after hearing Mom’s words.

"I’m returning home, and this is Grandpa Leo’s number," I finally answered. Neither of them spoke a word for a while. I bet they would be thinking that I told everyone the truth.

"With him?" Mom asked softly.

"Alone," I knew they would have sensed that something big would have happened, but I was thankful that they didn’t ask about it even once. In fact, Dad told me that he would be sending his private jet after I confirmed the date.

After talking to him for a while, I disconnected and called, and at the same time, Grandpa received a message from Massimo. I knew I shouldn’t open and read it, but after reading a glimpse of the message, I couldn’t stop myself from opening it.

‘I can’t leave her, Grandpa. Not after spending a night with her,’

My vision blurred as tears dwelled in my eyes as I read his message. Yeah! He couldn’t leave his mate after sleeping with her, but he could leave his wife by throwing an enormous amount of money at her face.

I read the previous message where Grandpa had asked him to reject her, with which he strongly disagreed.

At the same time, I read Massimo’s new message.

‘And do you know who she is? She is Amelia, the same Amelia who saved my life when I got kidnapped.

I handed over the phone to Grandpa, wondering whether I should tell Massimo that his mate was fooling him.

Yes, I should.

A part of me wondered whether he would trust me or not, but I couldn’t live with the guilt that I knew the truth but never shared it with him.

"You’re pregnant, aren’t you?" Grandpa asked when I looked at him.

"I…"

I was about to answer him when my Massimo mind linked me. ‘Why didn’t you visit the hospital?’

‘I will visit tomorrow.’ I responded curtly. I waited for him to speak, but when he didn’t say anything for a while, I closed the mind link.

I looked at Grandpa to answer his question when my phone started ringing. I excused myself and left the kitchen to grab my phone from my purse. My eyes thinned when I saw the name of my chosen mate on the display.

"I wasn’t done speaking," He barked the moment I received his call. I would have laughed at his childish behavior if our situation had been different.

"Hmm,"

"In case you are pregnant, then I won’t be rejecting you," He said. A smile appeared on my face with the thought that maybe our pup wouldn’t let us separate.

"Does that mean you will reject your fated mate?" I asked and heard a growl in return. When he didn’t reply to anything on that part, I realized he was planning to keep both of us. My heart cried in pain at the thought of becoming Alpha’s mistress because, at the end of the day, the fated mate would have the upper hand.

"Either you will be staying with us or I will have to take my pup from you, in case you are pregnant, Amee. You better visit the hospital tomorrow or I will have to drag you to the hospital for a check-up." With that, he disconnected the call.

I wouldn’t lie, but his words scared the shit out of me. Both the options that he had given me were scary and painful.

I had a feeling that he had an idea about pregnancy; after all, it had already been more than seven days since we made love... Correction: we had sex. I turned around and saw Grandpa looking at me. I knew he would have heard our conversation.

5: Pregnancy Test

Felicity

*

"I’m pregnant, Grandpa," I mumbled, answering the question that he had asked before.

"I figured that out already by realizing the amount of perfume you’ve used." He paused before continuing, "Don’t stress over the fact that he will find out about pregnancy because he won’t, not until I want him to find out about my great-grandchild. I might have retired from all the work, but everyone still listened to me before him."

I knew what I was doing was wrong for my pup’s father as well as my pup, but the choice that Massimo had given me was also cruel.

"Join me in the kitchen now. I want to eat my favorite dessert tonight." He changed the topic.

After half an hour, we settled on the table for dinner.

"Why are you helping me instead of your Grandson?" I couldn’t help but ask.

"I’m just protecting my great-grandchild's mother’s mental health in the early phase of the pregnancy because watching them together won’t be easy for you and stress might lead to miscarriage." I smiled weakly and tried to eat for the sake of my pup. "And in return, I want every update on my grandchild."

"I promise, I will."

"Hmm, I have a witch’s bracelet that will hide my great-grandchild from everyone’s eyes by hiding his or her scent as well as his or her heartbeats." He spoke and explained how Grandma’s witch friend had given that to her at the time of her pregnancy because Grandpa was at war and Grandma had to keep the future heir of the pack safe. "But at the same time, it stopped the growth of the pup. So, you can’t wear it on a regular basis." I noted that information in my mind.

After dinner and washing dishes, Grandpa gave me the bracelet that he was talking about. When I started to leave to look for a hotel nearby, he asked me to stay with him.

It was something that was happening for the first and last time. Not that I was complaining, but the thought of ‘last time’ was quite overwhelming.

I was glad that I wasn’t at the packhouse, in our room, because in that case, all I would have done was cry. I buried Grandma’s clothes that Grandpa had kept in the almirah as if she were still between us. I didn’t want to be jealous, but I couldn’t help it.

Grandma Soleil was really lucky. She was the chosen mate of Grandpa, and looking at them, I felt that maybe I would be that lucky too.

Not to forget, even my parents were chosen mates.

I didn’t realize it when I ended up sleeping while thinking about all these things. The next morning, Grandpa made sure that I would finish all the food on my plate, along with fresh juice.

While I was worried about the clothes that I needed to wear, Teressa Ricci, the beta, arrived there with my luggage, throwing a tantrum because I didn’t care to share my problem with her.

To be honest, I didn’t want to turn anyone against their Alpha by telling them about this incident; after all, I was almost everyone’s favorite. If Alpha was the brain of the pack, then Luna was the heart of the pack.

I wanted everyone to think that this was a mutual rejection.

I freshened up and left for the hospital along with her.

"I don’t understand why Alpha is so adamant about finding out whether you’re pregnant or not," She muttered. "Anyone can say that you’re not observing your scent," She added, on which I bit my inner cheeks, feeling bad about hiding the truth even from her. It wasn’t that I didn’t trust her, but I was scared that Massimo would interrogate everyone close to me, and if he used the Alpha command, then one would have to answer him.

"By the way, Luna or not, we will always be friends. Have you decided where you will live?"

"I’m getting a penthouse in alimony." I half-lied.

"Asshole. Does he really think that money can buy anything?" She growled, "Do you know what? Sell that penthouse in front of him and buy something that you want, not what he wants to give." Throughout the way, she kept cursing Massimo, calling him various mean names.

I wasn’t someone who encouraged others to badmouth Massimo, but Teressa was Massimo’s friend too. They grew up together, training side by side; after all, she was Beta’s daughter.

When I reached the hospital, three different doctors were there to draw my blood from my veins and send it into three different laboratories because Massimo didn’t want an ounce of mistake in making sure that I wasn’t pregnant, just like I claimed.

I bet he would have tried to put 2X2 by observing how I had used a lot of perfume that night and also avoided drinking wine.

All I could pray was that Grandpa would handle this situation or I would be caged here because one thing was for sure: I wouldn’t be leaving without my pup.

"Did you bring all my documents?" I asked, sipping coffee in the cafe while waiting for the results.

"Yes!! Everything was in the luggage." I nodded my head, knowing the very first thing that I had to do was change my name to my real name.

"Perfect. I need you to check Massimo’s fated mate’s background. Something about her is suspicious." With that, I told her everything that I saw and observed in the washroom. She tried to suggest that maybe Amelia had injured herself on her own, which I denied.

It was clear that someone had attacked her.

"Do one thing. Get permission from the werewolf Queen to get all the CCTV recordings of the ball." I remarked, knowing the mating ball was arranged and managed by them. "And then you need to check the CCTV of the washroom area around 10:30."

"What you have to check is whether someone followed Amelia inside the washroom before me. Or someone walked out of the washroom after a couple of minutes when Amelia walked inside." Teressa nodded her head, realizing what she had to do. Teressa didn’t join in the mating ball because she didn’t want to find her mate this soon.

"You’re his beta. He must have told you about his fated mate."

"No. He didn’t. And we both know why he didn't because he was scared that I might tell you about them."

"In that case, stay close to him. I don’t know what that woman’s plan is, but she might think of harming Imo and ruling the pack."

Massimo didn’t have any brothers or heirs, so it was clear that the pack would move to Luna if anything happened to him.

Teressa looked at me as if I had grown another head. "What?"

"You’re still thinking about him."

"Well, habits don’t change that easily," I muttered with a small but fake smile.

"In that case, you need to try harder and harder. That brute doesn’t deserve your care and concern. Focus on yourself and move on. I bet there are numerous Alphas out there who will kiss the ground where you will walk." I laughed at her suggestion.

After that, she spent hours trying to put some sense into my mind about finding another man, and it would have gone on for hours if Massimo hadn't mindlink me.

‘Amee!!’

I hated how his voice fluttered my stomach.

‘In my office. It’s urgent.’

‘Okay,’

6: Rejection

Felicity

*

On the way to his office, I thought to tell him the truth about fake Amelia. I really hoped that he would trust me. One way to make him believe what I was saying was true was by asking Dad to send my childhood picture. But those proofs were for others, not for the person who knew me for a decade. At the same time, I wondered why Massimo would have called me.

"Come in," Hearing these two words, I walked inside his cabin and saw him reading a file. I headed towards him and sat on the chair next to him. I didn’t miss him taking a deep breath as if he were inhaling my scent to find out about his pup.

"So, what’s the matter?" I asked, coming directly to the point. His eyes thinned, and he kept the file aside.

"How can you not be pregnant?"

"Did you receive the results of the tests already? I questioned him, ignoring his question.

"Yes!! And that’s why I’m asking, How is this possible? How can you not be pregnant? Did you take pills to avoid pregnancy?"

"No," I responded. I couldn’t lie about those things, which I wouldn’t be able to prove. He might search the whole room, ask for receipts for those pills, or force the pharmacy shop to provide details. "Maybe I’m barren; who knows?" I said, shrugging my shoulders.

"In that case, I’m booking an appointment for your full body checkup."

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I exclaimed. The way he was behind this investigation, I was scared that he might catch me. "Isn’t that great that I’m not pregnant with your pup, or it would have made the matter more complicated between you and your mate?" I pointed it out.

"Moreover, whether I’m barren or not is not your business now. You've got your mate by your side, so get her pregnant and stop mentally harassing me," I hissed. I watched as his eyes darkened at my words. I knew he would do something stupid the next moment.

That was what he always did whenever he was pissed.

"In that case, let’s reject each other right now, right here!" He said this, leaving his chair and walking towards me. He leaned towards me, resting both his palms on my chair's armrest. He brought his face dangerously close to me and continued, "If you won't, then I swear on Moon Goddess, I will cage you for three months in front of my eyes."

I knew he still had his doubts. And the fact that I was taking time gave him the idea that I was pregnant.

"In that case, go ahead, let’s reject each other," I said confidently, hiding the fear that was growing for my pup. I wouldn’t show him my fear.

He gritted his teeth and stood straight, staring at me with confusion and doubt, of course. He took a deep breath before speaking, "I, Massimo De Luca,...

That was it.

This was finally happening.

He wanted me to lock myself here only because of his pup. Not because he wanted me.

"Son of Late Alpha Piero De Luca and Alpha of Cresent Moon Pack, I reject you, Felicity Amee Taylor, as my mate and Luna of the pack."

I was glad that I had my name changed before coming here; otherwise, this rejection wouldn’t have worked. A whimper escaped from Massimo’s mouth, and he clenched his heart in pain; the bond had been broken from his end.

It was my time.

But instead of accepting his rejection immediately, I stood up on my feet and started leaving from there. It wasn’t that I wasn’t in pain, but this pain would be multiplied by ten the moment I accepted the rejection.

"I knew it. I knew you wouldn’t risk our pup’s life," He yelled from behind. I halted in my tracks and turned around, holding the tears in my eyes. I stared at his handsome face because I was sure I wouldn’t see him again.

"Don’t take back the rejection. I will accept the rejection after reaching Grandpa’s house," I said before walking out of his office for the last time.

The tear that I was holding rolled out of my eyes. I quickly wiped it off and maintained a small smile on my lips.

Not here. Not in front of others.

My heart cried in pain, and that was all I could do at that moment. Once I hopped inside the car, tears started flowing out of my eyes like a flood after all I had been holding them for.

I drove the car and cried at the same time. Teressa wasn’t with me because she was busy with the task that I had given her. All the moments with Massimo started popping into my mind.

*

Fourteen years back!

Finally, the warriors of the Werewolf King unknowingly found the place where all the kidnapped pups were held after two days. Since they were limited in number, they just ordered all the pups to run in the opposite direction, as the help was coming from that direction, while they were going to make sure that no rogue followed them.

"Mas… Moso," I tried to wake up Massimo, who was unconscious and bleeding after everyone hit him like a football. "Wake up. We have to leave," I said, shaking him. He groaned and opened his eyes.

"I can’t leave!" He muttered weakly.

No way.

I quickly walked out of that dark room in search of someone who could help me. All the pups left from there the first moment they got there, so no one was there except me. I ran here and there for help, but all I could see were two werewolves fighting around and throwing each other.

I quickly thanked the Moon Goddess when my eyes landed on a line of shopping carts. I grabbed one and ran towards Massimo as fast as I could.

A minute later, he combined all his strength with mine, and somehow I managed to put him in the card and start pushing it with all my strength.

"Moso, Moso, keep your eyes open."

"It’s Massimo," He complained, correcting his name. "Why didn’t you leave?"

"You saved me like a prince, then how can I leave my prince behind?" I chirped while he scoffed. My arms had started to ache, and I felt like I couldn't push the cart anymore, but I knew that wasn’t the option that we had at that moment.

"Now, you've got to choose me as your mate and marry me when we grow old."

"What?"

"Yes. Promise me that you will choose and marry me."

"But.."

"Do you think that you can find a cute girl like me?"

He chuckled before agreeing, "Fine. I will choose and marry you when we grow old."

"Pinky promise!"

"Pinky promise!"

*

I pressed the brake of the car harshly and wiped the tears from my eyes. I grabbed my phone and dialed Massimo’s number, but he didn’t receive the call.

Imo, I hope you haven’t chosen to stay by your fated mate's side just because you promised that little Amelia to do the same. Because she is not Amelia but some fraud. Don’t let childish promises ruin your life. I read the message twice before sending it to him. He had shared that whole incident with me as his friend.

I waited for a minute for his message and was about to call him again when I received it.

Dare to use any word similar to fraud for my mate, or I will kick you out of the pack. Now, accept the rejection and mind your own business.

I read his message again and again before tossing my phone aside.

Kick me out of the pack?

What did he think of me?

A poor and homeless omega?

I started the car and resumed driving towards Grandpa’s cottage. I went in the door where I stayed last night. I didn’t greet Grandpa, who was working in the backyard.

Slamming the door, I finally said the words that could risk my pup’s life: "I, Felicity Amee Taylor, Daughter of Alpha Stephen Glint, accept your rejection, Massimo De Luca, as my mate and as my Alpha." I gasped when I felt someone grab and squeeze my heart like a lemon but I wasn't done yet. "I, Felicity Amee Taylor, Former Luna of Cresent Moon Pack reject Cresent Moon Pack as my home and pack."

I started having a hard time breathing. I tried to keep my eyes open, but the pain was making everything hard for me. I couldn’t breathe, and my eyes started getting heavy.

My pup!

My hand automatically reached near my stomach, hoping he or she would be fine. At the same time, I smelled blood.

Fuck! I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if anything happened to him or her. I knew I had risked my pup’s life for my freedom, and that was a very selfish choice of mine.

But I really hoped the Moon Goddess would punish me for that, not my pup.

‘Just save my pup, Moon Goddess, and I will do anything in return. Anything, Even if it included giving a chance to my fated mate,’ I prayed before I started losing consciousness.

All my life, I had prayed for Massimo and no one else, but if the cost of saving my pup would be something I didn’t desire, then I was ready to take that.

"Felicity!! Felicity!!" My name was the last thing that I heard before falling unconscious.
