Chapter 3

"Time for dinner, Summer."

When Ivana helped me to the dinner table, Edward and Evan were chomping on steak and lobster. Their mouths were greasy as they ate their food.

A few plates of vegetables were placed in front of me. Ivana even opened a bottle of expensive wine in front of them.

"Oh, gosh. I spilled some wine. It reeks of alcohol here now."

She was wearing a jeweled ring on her finger as she waved it around. She had a fake smile on her face as she pressed me down into my seat. Ivana then put vegetables onto my plate.

"The doctor said you have to eat clean. I made a full vegetarian meal today."

Full vegetarian?

There was lobster and beef on the other side of the table while chicken noodle soup was simmering in the kitchen. How could she tell me this was a full vegetarian meal?

Evan was confident I had no say in his diet. He chewed loudly and even gulped down big mouthfuls of beef in front of me on purpose. As he reached out for the lobster, he spoke with his mouth full.

"I'm being a good boy, Mom. I'm having broccoli without you telling me to."

He stuffed a piece of lobster into his mouth as he spoke.

Edward chuckled. He and Ivana exchanged looks with delight on their faces.

"See what a good boy our son is."

I continued to be 'blind' and ignored all of this, but my fists were clenched under the table. Ivana looked at me a couple of times with a strange look on her face.

"Summer, are you sure you can't see a thing?"

Her words made me jump and caused my heart to sink. She was staring at me questioningly.

She must have detected something strange about my reaction, but it was fine. I calmed down and suddenly grabbed her. This action scared her, and she wanted to fling my hand away.

"What are you doing—"

"Ivana, I can smell beef and chicken noodle soup."

I said something before she could continue, and Ivana was taken aback. Then, she relaxed and smiled. "You must be mistaken. The smell could be coming from the neighbors."

She began to mix up the food on my plate. The next moment, Ivana lowered her head and spat into my plate. Then, she scooped up some vegetables and put the spoon to my mouth.

"Have some food, Summer. It's getting cold."

Edward and Evan watched this with amusement, waiting expectedly. They looked on with disgust, but no one stepped forward to stop Ivana.

I took a deep breath and turned my head away to avoid the spoonful of food.

"Yuck… It smells bad, Ivana. I think the vegetables have gone bad. Throw them out. They aren't edible anymore."

Ivana flung her spoon to the floor and clenched her teeth with anger, but she voiced her agreement. Her trick did not work.

My last hope for Edward and Evan was crushed when I saw the disappointment on their faces.

I might really have been blind to have met a lousy scoundrel and given birth to his lousy son. Fortunately, I had come to realize my mistake.

With that, the atmosphere at dinner became weird.

After Evan went off to school the next day, Edward and Ivana prepared to sneak out of the house.

Ivana smelled of perfume and was dressed sexily as she and Edward held hands while leaving the house.

"Oh, Evan has a school function that I'll be attending with Edward. Evan is just so adorable. I'll tell you all about it when we come home."

Edward put his hand on Ivana's butt and said they needed to hurry out of the house or they would be late. The smiles on their faces were annoying. They rushed out hurriedly without even waiting for my reply.

Once they were gone, I stood up from the couch and stepped on Ivana's clothes, which were all over the floor.
