The forest blurred past as I ran, my legs burning with each step. Five years of darkness. Five years of pain. And now, finally, freedom—if I could just make it back to Silver Crescent territory before the rogues realized I was gone. "Mama, are we safe now?" Mabel's small voice came from where she clung to my back, her tiny arms wrapped around my neck. "Almost, my little moon," I whispered, adjusting her weight. She was so light—too light. Five years of malnutrition had left her fragile, her silver-blonde hair dull and her amber eyes too large in her thin face. "Just a little further." My wolf, Silver, pushed me forward with what little strength she had left. *We're almost home.

After My Alpha Rejected Me, I Stole His Pack Chapter 1

The forest blurred past as I ran, my legs burning with each step. Five years of darkness. Five years of pain. And now, finally, freedom—if I could just make it back to Silver Crescent territory before the rogues realized I was gone.

"Mama, are we safe now?" Mabel's small voice came from where she clung to my back, her tiny arms wrapped around my neck.

"Almost, my little moon," I whispered, adjusting her weight. She was so light—too light. Five years of malnutrition had left her fragile, her silver-blonde hair dull and her amber eyes too large in her thin face. "Just a little further."

My wolf, Silver, pushed me forward with what little strength she had left. *We're almost home. Maverick will find us. He'll fix everything.*

I stumbled over roots and rocks, my body still weak from the silver chains they'd used to keep me subdued. The scent markers of Silver Crescent territory grew stronger with each step. My heart pounded against my ribs—not from exertion, but from hope.

"He'll be waiting for us," I promised Mabel, though my voice trembled. "Your father will be so proud of you."

The mate bond pulled at me like a phantom limb—distant but undeniable. Maverick had to feel it too. He had to know I was coming home.

When we finally crossed the border, I collapsed to my knees, setting Mabel gently on the forest floor. The familiar scents of home washed over me—pine, wildflowers, and the distinctive musk of pack wolves.

"We made it," I breathed, pressing my forehead to Mabel's. "We're safe now."

But something was wrong. The territory felt different—the energy, the atmosphere. And where were the patrol guards? Where was the welcoming party that should have been waiting for their Alpha's mate to return?

I gathered Mabel into my arms and followed the main path toward the pack house. The sounds of celebration drifted through the trees—music, laughter, the clinking of glasses. My heart lifted. They were having a party. Maybe they were celebrating my return.

"Mama, what's that noise?" Mabel asked, her eyes wide with apprehension.

"A party," I said, forcing a smile. "For us."

But as we emerged into the pack square, my steps faltered. The celebration wasn't for me.

Hundreds of pack members gathered in a massive circle around an ornate ceremonial platform. Flowers and ribbons hung from every surface, and the air was thick with the scent of jasmine—my scent, or at least, what it used to be.

At the center of it all stood Maverick, magnificent and terrible in his formal Alpha attire. And beside him...

My legs gave out beneath me.

"No," I whispered, clutching Mabel tighter. "No, no, no."

The woman beside Maverick wore a flowing white dress that matched the ceremonial robes he'd commissioned for our own mate ceremony years ago. Her hair was dyed to match my silver-blonde shade, and her scent—she'd somehow altered her scent to mimic mine.

"Today," Maverick's voice boomed across the square through the pack mind-link, "I claim Amora as my chosen mate. Though the Moon Goddess tests us with separation, I have found strength in the arms of another who carries the spirit of my true mate."

The crowd erupted in cheers, but I couldn't move, couldn't breathe.

*Maverick,* I called through our bond. *Maverick, it's me. I'm here.*

His head snapped up, his nostrils flaring. Our eyes met across the square, and for one heartbeat, I saw recognition flash across his face.

Then his expression hardened into something I'd never seen before—contempt.

"Silence!" he commanded, his Alpha tone vibrating through my bones.

The crowd fell quiet, all eyes turning to where I stood at the edge of the square.

"Lilith," he said, my name falling from his lips like ice. "You dare return after abandoning your pack and your mate?"

The accusations hit me like physical blows. "I didn't—I was taken—"

"Your wolf is broken," he continued, cutting me off. "Weak from rogue breeding. You are no longer fit to be Luna of Silver Crescent."

Gasps rippled through the crowd. Amora stepped forward, her smile sympathetic but her eyes gleaming with triumph.

"Alpha," she said softly, "perhaps she deserves mercy."

"She deserves nothing," Maverick replied, his gaze never leaving mine. "I, Maverick, Alpha of Silver Crescent Pack, reject you, Lilith, as my mate."

The words sliced through me like silver blades. Mabel whimpered against my chest.

"But I am not without mercy," he continued. "You and your...pup...may stay in the Omega quarters until arrangements can be made."

Two Delta warriors stepped forward, their expressions blank as they waited for my surrender.

As they led me away from the ceremony, I caught one last glimpse of Maverick's face. There was no love there. No recognition of what we'd once been.

Only cold, calculating dismissal.

And as they pushed me toward the damp, freezing Omega quarters, I realized the truth—I hadn't escaped the rogues only to find freedom.

I'd escaped one prison only to enter another.

The greenhouse was my sanctuary in a pack house that had never felt like home. Dawn hadn't yet broken when I slipped inside, the familiar scent of damp soil and blooming flowers wrapping around me like an embrace I'd long been denied elsewhere. My fingers trembled slightly as I reached for the watering can—a weakness I couldn't afford to show outside these glass walls. I focused on the white lilies, my favorites. Their pure petals reminded me of what I once was—hopeful, untainted. Before the mate bond that became my prison. "You're wilting too, aren't you?" I whispered to a drooping bloom, gently supporting its stem. My wolf, Luna, whimpered softly in the back of my mind. Once silver and strong, she now barely stirred, weakened by the sickness that had been consuming us both since I gave too much blood to save William three years ago. A sudden tremor ran through my bones, stronger than the usual morning weakness.

The Inter-Pack Summit's grand hall glowed with ceremonial torches, casting dramatic shadows across the faces of the most powerful Alphas in the region. I stood at the entrance, my silver aura radiating outward in controlled waves—not a display of emotion, but a calculated reminder of the Silvermoon Pack's strength under my leadership. Marcus positioned himself precisely one step behind me and to my right, his presence a silent comfort through our private mind-link. *They're all watching for weakness,* he observed, his thoughts flowing into mine with familiar ease. *Then they'll find none,* I replied, scanning the room with measured indifference. Alpha Kaelen Blackwood approached first, his dark eyes evaluating me with the same predatory calculation I recognized in myself. "Alpha Victoria," he greeted, inclining his head just slightly enough to acknowledge my status without suggesting submission. "Your champion has brought considerable attention to the Silvermoon territory." "As intended," I replied coolly, the subtle tap of my index finger against my thigh the only outward sign of my strategic assessment. Ryan Mitchell had indeed brought attention—attention I had meticulously orchestrated over five years of investment. The rogue I'd salvaged from starvation had been molded into a weapon that now represented Silvermoon dominance in combat.
