The Silver Moon packhouse looked exactly as I remembered it—towering stone columns, arched windows catching the late afternoon light, the Crawford family crest carved above the entrance like a brand. Six years ago, I'd been dragged through those doors pregnant and sobbing, stripped of my Luna title in front of the entire pack. Today, I walked through them as a guest of honor. I pressed my thumb against the inside of my wrist, steadying myself. "Mom." Bryce's voice was quiet beside me, his small hand finding mine. "Your heart rate just spiked." Of course he'd noticed. After My Alpha Banished Me While Pregnant Chapter 1

"Your heart rate just spiked."

Of course he'd noticed. My six-year-old son noticed everything.

"I'm fine," I said, and meant it. I wasn't the shattered woman who'd left this place. I was Dr. Julia Crawford now, lead researcher at the Regional Healer's Institute, author of three published papers on wolf-bond trauma recovery. The invitation to the Annual Pack Gathering had come from the Lycan King's office itself, not from Calvin. That distinction mattered.

Dorian's presence at my other side was solid, unhurried. He hadn't said much during the drive here, but he'd positioned himself between me and the packhouse entrance without making it obvious, the way he did most things—so quietly I almost didn't notice until the protection was already in place.

"Ready?" he asked.

I nodded. The heavy oak doors swung open.

The grand hall fell silent in stages. First the wolves nearest the entrance, their conversations dying mid-sentence. Then the ripple effect spreading backward through the crowd, heads turning, voices dropping away. I felt the weight of two hundred pairs of eyes landing on me at once.

I kept my chin level and walked forward.

Calvin stood at the far end of the hall on a raised platform, Magnolia draped on his arm like an ornament. He was mid-laugh at something another Alpha had said, his hand smoothing over that ridiculous crest ring he always wore. Then he saw me.

The laugh died. His face went carefully blank, the way it used to when he was calculating his next move. Magnolia followed his gaze, her expression flickering through surprise, confusion, and something that looked almost like fear before settling into a brittle smile.

I didn't smile back. I didn't need to.

"Dr. Crawford." Silas Voss materialized beside me, the Lycan King's senior emissary, his formal greeting cutting through the silence like a blade. "Welcome. Your research on accelerated bone-knitting protocols has been invaluable to our northern packs."

"Thank you, Emissary Voss." I shook his offered hand, aware that every wolf in the hall was watching the Lycan King's representative treat me with the respect Calvin had spent six years trying to erase. "I'm honored to be here."

Voss's gaze dropped to Bryce, who stood perfectly still beside me, his small face composed in that unnerving way he had of looking like a tiny professor. "And this must be your son."

"Bryce Crawford," Bryce said, extending his hand with formal precision. "Pleased to meet you, sir."

I watched Voss's eyebrows rise slightly. Most six-year-olds didn't shake hands like they were negotiating pack treaties.

"Remarkable," Voss murmured, then gestured toward the seating area. "Please, make yourselves comfortable. The presentations will begin shortly."

We moved through the crowd. Wolves I'd once known—pack members who'd watched Calvin humiliate me and said nothing—stepped back to let us pass. Some looked away. Others stared with open curiosity. A few of the older females whispered behind their hands, their eyes flicking between me and Bryce with an arithmetic I could practically hear: six years ago, pregnant, banished, and now...

Let them wonder.

We took our seats in the VIP section, close enough to the stage that Calvin would have to look at me throughout his entire presentation. Dorian settled into the chair beside me, his shoulder a warm, steady line against mine. Bryce pulled out his tablet, his fingers already moving across the screen in quick, purposeful swipes.

"Bryce," I said quietly.

"Just checking the security protocols, Mom." His tone was perfectly innocent. His fingers didn't stop moving. "Making sure the AV system is functioning properly for the presentations."

I knew that tone. That tone meant my son was planning something.

"Bryce—"

"It's fine," he said, still not looking up. "I'm being careful."

Before I could respond, the lights dimmed. Calvin stepped up to the podium, his Alpha aura rolling out across the hall in a practiced wave of authority. Magnolia took her seat in the front row, her pale dress catching the spotlight, her expression serene.

Calvin's voice filled the space, smooth and confident. "Welcome, honored guests, to the Silver Moon Pack's Annual Gathering. This year, I'm proud to present our latest breakthrough in healing innovation..."

I watched him smooth his crest ring. Once. Twice.

Beside me, Bryce tilted his head slightly to the left.

And smiled.
