Chapter 2

Dante:

I hadn't expected to see my room door fling open, the worst was when Erica stood in front of the door with her expression giving nothing else but shock. Her jaw dropped and her eyes were wide open.

"Dante, you disgust me." With just these words, she stormed out of the doorway.

I wasn't bothered about what she had seen and I didn't want to give explains to someone that wasn't worth it.

Erica wasn't worth the waste of time and she knew that for a fact. I had only gotten married to her because I  wanted my mate to give me children but here she was barren.

Laura isn't my cousin, I wasn't a mad person to sleep with my cousin and Laura is the woman that I want. The woman who is stronger than the weakling I am married to and I would do anything for Laura.

Laura didn't want Erica to attend the party because Erica always stole the show. After all, she is my Luna and a very pretty Luna at that and the only way to make her stay behind was punishing her for stealing the necklace. Erica didn't take it, Laura had put it in her room and all of this was just a facade, all so Erica wouldn't attend the party. I love Laura, she was way better than Erica and I would do anything for her.

Laura arranged her clothes and was about to walk out of the room when I pulled her to me and stopped her from going away.

"Wait Laura." my voice was always calm and tender when I spoke to her.

"Why Dante? What do you want? Do you want me to be addressed as the mistress?" she asked and I could sense the pain which was very evident in her voice.

"I don't want that," I replied calmly.

"But you just saw that, Erica walked in here and she saw us having sex. She would think of me as the mistress and would say mean things about me, when are you going to do something about Erica? You promised she would be here in a few days, Dante. Can I not trust your words?" she asked and I sighed.

"I have made a promise to you and I will fulfill it." I looked at Laura from head to toe, I hated to see her uncomfortable.

"When? You love me right?"

"Soon. You know I love you so much." I pulled her into a hug and she immediately wrapped her hand around her my torso.

"I want to be the only woman in your life. Let Erica go, she has been of no use to you, she doesn't even have a child for you. " I nodded. I knew that I was just waiting for the time. The Time that I would let Erica go.

I was able to calm Laura down and I spent the night with her, it wouldn't make sense for me to not spend the night with her.

****

Lots of proposals were made from the party yesterday and I had to be at my office early, ready to accept all of the proposals and turn them into alignments.

I was ready and I left for work, but all the while I sat in my office I thought of what Laura had asked me for.

She wanted me to divorce Erica, and I wanted it too because Erica is good for nothing, I was always full of regret anytime I remembered that I had gotten married to her for the sake of having children and she blew it off with her barren life, I always got pissed.

I finished all the work, I had for the day and I headed back to the pack house.

I hadn't seen Erica after she'd seen me with Laura yesterday, she was probably crying out her eyes and I didn't even care.

The first person I saw immediately after I got back from the office was Laura. I knew what she wanted to say when she engulfed me in a hug.

She stared into my eyes. "Is Erica leaving today? You promised me."

"She is," I affirmed my word with a nod and Laura immediately pulled me into another tight hug.

With Laura by my side, I strolled down to Erica's room, I knocked on the door and after a few seconds, he opened.

Erica looked like she had cried for hours, her face was all puffy and her hair was a mess, she was a total mess.

"What do you want  Dante?" As she asked this I pushed myself inside her room without even waiting for her to ask me in.

"Let's talk Erica." I got into her room and placed the file I had in my hand on the vanity table by her wall.

"What is there to talk about, Dante? You sleeping with your cousin." Her voice was shaky and I could feel her tremble.

"You know what, Dante I want to know, I just want to clarify things. She isn't your cousin right?" She asked and I nodded.

"Yes." I raised my head, I am an Alpha, and I would not lower my head for anyone.

"No wonder why you always compare me to her? So all the time you've been sleeping with her? She was the one?" She asked and I nodded.

"No wonder why Laura never liked me, Dante." She finally broke down crying.

"Dante, you hurt me so much but we can start again. I will forgive you, please Dante, just love me." She had tears flowing from her eyes, I felt that she was hurt, she was my mate. I could feel the pain she felt but that didn't matter, she wasn't worth it. Laura is the one I love.

"If you can just give me a chance, I promise I will give you a child and you'll love me. You're the only family I have, Dante and I love you so much."

"I want a divorce, Erica," I said without feeling regret.

On my daughter's fifth birthday, Yareli posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: "Before bed, my little one was crying for her dad, and the wonderful dad immediately dropped his work to be there." In the photo, the man next to her was none other than my husband—Sean Harrison. I glanced at the message received ten minutes ago: "There's something going on at the office tonight. You and Braelynn don't need to wait for me." I liked the post, then called my divorce attorney. --- Sean came home at two in the morning. The harsh light made me shield my daughter's eyes immediately. Sean leaned against the doorframe: "Miriam, I'm back. Let's wake Braelynn, and I'll celebrate her birthday with her." In the past, I cherished these family rituals deeply. Whether it was a birthday, Thanksgiving, anniversary, or a preschool event, I insisted Sean be involved. I didn't want Braelynn to go through what I did—only seeing her dad through videos on WhatsApp. But now— I straightened the blanket and replied in a flat tone: "No need." A flicker of frustration crossed Sean's face: "Miriam, I only went over to help Miguel sleep.

I spent two years navigating the stratified air of Spencer Kensington’s world, thinking I was the woman he loved. I even ate instant ramen for months to afford a vintage camera lens for our anniversary. When I got a mysterious text about "Operation Blue Moon," I thought it was our private signal for a proposal. Instead, I walked into a limestone fortress to find the Kensington and Van Der Woodsen Engagement Party in full swing. Spencer wasn't there for a romantic dinner; he was standing under a crystal chandelier, announcing his "business merger" with a blonde heiress. When I confronted him in a service hallway, he didn't apologize. He offered to buy me a brownstone and keep me as his "side project" while his mother, Victoria, watched from the balcony like a queen. "Vanessa is just furniture," he said, his voice full of a terrifying sincerity. "But you're the one I love. I can give you a life of ease." When I refused to be his dirty little secret, the retaliation was instant and brutal. By the next morning, I was fired from my reporting job, my father’s nursing home funding was pulled, and I returned home to find my apartment condemned by the city. My entire life was piled in wet boxes on a rain-soaked sidewalk. I couldn't understand how one family could have the power to erase a person’s existence in a single night. How could the man who kissed me yesterday watch his mother leave me homeless and penniless today? Standing in the rain next to my ruined belongings, a black SUV pulled up and Mayor Julian Sterling stepped out. He didn't offer me pity; he offered me a deal. "The Kensingtons are panicked," he said, his eyes cold and calculating. "And panicked people make mistakes. You have a reason to watch them burn. I want to see what you know." I took his hand, knowing he was just as dangerous as the people I was fighting, but I was done being the victim. This wasn't just a breakup anymore; it was a war.
