You Wanted My Son to Call Your Mistress "Mom"? Watch Me Walk Away to a Billionaire Chapter 1

I gave up my career as a top international jewelry designer, spent seven years wiping my husband’s suits and raising our son, only to become the invisible, “boring” housekeeper in my own home. On School Family Day, I rushed to the campus with homemade cupcakes, only to find my husband and my 7-year-old son posing for a "happy family portrait" with his returning high school sweetheart, Chloe. My own flesh and blood looked at me with disgust, saying, "Why can't Chloe be my mom? She's prettier and cooler than you." My husband laughed it off, telling me to stop making a scene. That night, I threw away my apron, signed the divorce papers, and walked out. You wanted a glamorous new mother for your son? Good luck. Tomorrow, the world will know that the discarded housewife is actually the legendary jewelry queen, and I’m taking everything.

POV: Elena

Elena pulled the final batch of strawberry cupcakes from the oven, the sweet, warm scent of vanilla filling the quiet kitchen.

It was barely six in the morning, but she had been awake since four. Today was Family Day at St. Jude Academy, the city’s most prestigious private elementary school. For weeks, seven-year-old Leo had talked about nothing else.

"Make the strawberry ones with the little sugar stars, Mommy," he had pleaded three nights ago, tugging her apron. "Nobody else's mom makes them like you."

Elena carefully piped fresh whipped cream onto each cupcake, topping them with ruby-red strawberries. She packed them into a white pastry box tied with a gold ribbon.

On the dining table lay Julian’s custom navy suit and Leo’s crest-embroidered school blazer, both of which she had hand-steamed the night before. Julian had taken Leo to school early for the student council briefing, leaving Elena to bring the desserts.

She quickly changed into a modest beige wrap dress, threw on a light trench coat, and grabbed the box. Her heart fluttered with nervous excitement as she started the car. For eight years, she had devoted every waking hour to being Julian’s supportive wife and Leo’s devoted mother. Days like this made every sacrifice feel worth it.

When Elena arrived at the school’s sprawling lawn, the spring festival was in full swing.

Classical music drifted across manicured hedges. Valets parked luxury sedans, while mothers in couture and fathers in tailored wool mingled under silk-draped canopies.

Elena clutched the bakery box against her chest, searching the crowd for Julian and Leo. She spotted a gathering near the floral gazebo where the official parent-child portraits were being taken.

Elena quickened her pace, a warm smile touching her lips.

Then she stopped dead.

Under the rose arch of the photo booth stood Julian, looking impossibly handsome in his navy suit. But his left hand was not at his side. It was resting intimately on the curve of a woman’s waist, pulling her close.

The woman was Chloe.

She wore a backless champagne-silk sundress, her soft blonde hair cascading down her shoulders. And perched proudly on Chloe’s shoulders, laughing with wild abandon, was Leo.

"Look this way, Leo!" the school photographer called out, adjusting his lens. "Mom and Dad, tilt your heads in just a little. Beautiful! A picture-perfect family!"

Julian smiled, the kind of relaxed, radiant smile Elena hadn't seen on his face in years. He tightened his grip on Chloe’s waist, leaning his cheek against her temple. Chloe laughed, reaching up with manicured fingers to steady Leo’s little legs.

"Say cheese, buddy!" Julian urged softly.

"Cheese!" Leo cheered, throwing his hands in the air.

The camera flashed.

Elena felt the ground drop out beneath her feet. The air turned thin and icy, lodging in her throat like crushed glass.

Chloe was Julian’s first love, the one who had broken his heart before leaving for Paris eight years ago. Julian had always claimed she was just a distant memory, a friend from another lifetime.

Yet here she was, standing in Elena’s place, wearing Elena’s family like an accessory.

Elena walked toward the pavilion. Her heels felt heavy, sinking slightly into the lawn with every step.

"Julian?" Elena’s voice was barely a whisper, but in the lull between shutter clicks, it cut through the air.

The trio turned.

Julian’s smile vanished instantly, replaced by an irritated grimace. Leo blinked, his cheerful expression curdling into a scowl the moment he saw his mother.

Only Chloe remained composed. A faint, triumphant gleam flashed in her almond-shaped eyes before she slipped out from under Leo, easing the boy down onto the grass. She smoothed her silk dress and picked up a gilded porcelain tier from a nearby table.

"Elena! You finally made it," Chloe purred, walking toward her with measured elegance.

She held out an ornate silver platter stacked with glossy, gold-dusted French macarons.

"Don't be upset, Elena," Chloe said softly, her voice pitched just loud enough for the nearby parents to hear. "Leo mentioned in the car that your homemade cupcakes were a bit... rustic for an event like this. He was worried the other boys would tease him. Luckily, I had the chef at my hotel whip up a batch of authentic Saint-Honoré pastries and macarons this morning."

Chloe tilted her head, her smile dripping with patronizing pity. "You work so hard, sweetie. You really shouldn't exhaust yourself with cheap baking when we can just hire professionals."

Elena ignored her, keeping her eyes fixed on her son.

"Leo," Elena said, her voice trembling as she knelt to his eye level and held out the box. "Mommy woke up at four to bake these. Your favorites. With the sugar stars, just like you asked."

Leo crossed his small arms and took a step back, his nose wrinkling in disgust.

"I don't want them!" Leo snapped loudly.

He reached out and shoved Elena’s hands away.

The white bakery box slipped from her fingers, tumbling to the grass. The lid popped open, sending the delicate strawberry cupcakes spilling into the dirt, crushed and ruined.

"Leo!" Elena gasped, stunned.

"You smell like old frying oil and butter!" Leo whined, glaring at her with open hostility. "Chloe smells like sweet jasmine, and she drives a sports car! You’re wearing an ugly dress, and you don't even have makeup on. Stop coming near me, Mom! You're embarrassing me in front of the whole class!"

Every word was a nail driven straight through Elena’s heart.

She had burned her wrist taking those cupcakes out of the oven. She hadn't put on makeup because she had spent the morning ironing his uniform and preparing his favorite breakfast.

"Leo, how could you say that?" Elena whispered, tears finally blurring her vision. "I'm your mother."

"That's enough, Elena."

Julian’s harsh voice cut her down.

He stepped forward, not to correct his insolent son, but to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Chloe, effectively shielding her and Leo from Elena.

"Julian, did you hear what he just said?" Elena looked up at her husband, desperate for a shred of decency. "He threw the food on the ground. And why are you taking family photos with Chloe?"

Julian didn't flinch. His eyes scanned her from head to toe, filled with nothing but cold contempt.

"He’s seven years old. He’s telling the truth," Julian said, his tone flat and merciless. "Look at yourself, Elena. Your hair is half-done, your coat has flour smudges on the sleeve, and you brought a cheap cardboard box to a private academy gala."

Several wealthy mothers nearby began whispering behind their champagne flutes, casting judgmental glances in Elena's direction.

"Julian, please..." Elena choked out.

"Do you have any concept of social etiquette?" Julian interrupted, stepping closer, his voice dropping into a harsh sneer. "Chloe stepped in to represent our family because you were running late. She saved Leo from being humiliated. Instead of thanking her, you come here and make a public scene."

Chloe gently rested her hand on Julian’s forearm, looking up at him with wide, concerned eyes. "Julian, don't be too hard on her. She doesn't move in our circles. She doesn't understand high society."

"She should understand by now," Julian snapped, brushing Chloe's hand gently before fixing his glare back on Elena. "Get in your car and go home right now. Don't stay here and embarrass me any further."

Elena stood frozen on the immaculate lawn.

Beside her, the strawberry cupcakes lay smashed in the dirt, crawling with ants.

Before her stood her husband, his arm loosely circling Chloe's back once more. Leo stood between them, holding Chloe’s hand and smiling smugly up at his father, utterly unbothered by his mother’s pain.

A breeze swept across the field, but Elena couldn't feel it.

The agonizing pain that had threatened to tear her apart just moments ago began to recede, leaving behind an eerie, hollow vacuum.

She looked at Julian’s cold face.

She looked at her son’s spoiled, cruel eyes.

The tears in Elena’s eyes did not fall. They dried up, evaporating into the cold morning air.

Something inside her snapped cleanly in two. In the quiet wreckage of her devotion, a profound, terrifying ice settled over her soul.
