The Wife He Let Go: He Chose the Fake Heiress, I Chose Myself

In Evelyn Whitmore's heart, Annelise Whitmore had never been the imposter who stole her life. She had always been the sister who pulled her out of hell. Annelise had taught her how to carry herself, had stood up for her when no one else would. When Evelyn's husband, Nathan Langford went bankrupt and their life fell apart, Annelise was the one who stepped in without hesitation, helping them through it all. It wasn't until the day Nathan got hurt that everything shattered. Evelyn saw it with her own eyes. He had Annelise pinned against the wall, his voice breaking. "You said your sister was pitiful and made me marry her, but what about me? Annie, let's be together again, okay?" Tears streamed down Annelise's face. "I can't. I already took her place. I can't take her marriage too." Outside the door, Evelyn trembled all over. So her husband and her sister had been in love all along. She signed the divorce papers and chose to let them be together. But Nathan chased her across miles, grabbing her hand and begging her to come back.

Chapter 8

Outside the factory, Nathan gently set Annelise down, already turning to rush back in. Annelise grabbed his arm, her face pale. "Nathan, have you lost your mind? Going back in there is suicide!" Nathan shook her off, his eyes bloodshot. "That's my wife!" Annelise froze where she stood, her fingers still curled in the air. He had never spoken harshly to her before, never pushed her away like that. After a long moment, resentment slowly filled her eyes. Nathan charged into the factory like a madman. Thick smoke filled the air, stinging his lungs, but Evelyn was nowhere to be seen. Where she had been tied up, there was only a dismantled explosive device left behind. He reached down and squeezed it. It was nothing but a fake. "Evelyn! Where are you?" The factory stood empty, his voice echoing back at him. The bodyguards arrived, forming two dense lines behind him. Nathan took a deep breath, his grip tightening around his own fingers as he forced himself to calm down. A fake bomb meant they hadn't intended to kill Evelyn. His voice turned cold. "Everyone, search within a ten-mile radius of the factory. Any suspicious vehicles, any rival companies. Don't miss a single lead. Whatever it takes, find her!" "Yes, Mr. Langford!" The lead bodyguard hesitated before speaking. "Mr. Langford, Ms. Whitmore is still outside. Her hand is badly injured. Should we take her to the hospital first?" Nathan froze for a moment, only then remembering Annelise was still outside. "You keep searching for Evelyn. I'll take Annelise to the hospital." He strode back and saw Annelise's injured hand hanging at her side, bloodied and torn. A flicker of concern crossed his eyes. "Annelise, I'm sorry. I lost control just now…" Annelise shook her head gently, her tone as composed as ever. "It's okay. You were just worried about Evelyn." The car sped all the way to the hospital. Nathan pulled every string he had, calling in the hospital's top surgeons to operate on Annelise's hand. The operating room light turned red. He sat down on the bench in the hallway. He should have been worried about Annelise in surgery, yet his mind kept circling back to Evelyn. She was afraid of the dark, afraid of pain, soft as something that could be crushed too easily. Would she be crying right now? Would that masked man hurt her? She was so naive, so obedient. She'd probably be curled up in some corner, quietly waiting for him to save her… A fear he had never felt before tightened around his chest. He slammed his fist into the wall, his knuckles reddening instantly. He didn't understand what was happening to him. He had once thought it would be better if Evelyn had never come back. Before long, the operating room light went out. The doctor removed his mask, visibly relieved. "Mr. Langford, the surgery went well. She'll recover after a few days of rest." Nathan stood and walked in. Annelise had just woken up, her face ashen, a weak smile appearing when she saw him. "Annelise, the doctor said you're fine. I'll—" "I'll go find Evelyn." Before he could finish, Annelise cut him off. She reached out and held onto his sleeve, her eyes glistening. "Nathan, stay with me… please?" Nathan frowned. "But Evelyn is still with the kidnappers." "She'll be fine," Annelise said softly. Nathan paused, looking down at her. "You weren't like this before. You've always cared about your sister the most. But today…" Annelise trembled, forcing herself upright as she wrapped her arms around his waist. "Nathan… I regret it. I'll agree to it. You divorce her, and we can be together again. I'm really afraid of losing you." This was what Nathan had been waiting to hear for three long years. Yet now that he heard it, there was no joy in him, only an uneasy resistance. He even found himself resenting her. Evelyn's life was still uncertain, and this was what she chose to talk about? Tears rolled down Annelise's face. "When he held that knife to my throat… the only person I thought of was you." Nathan's expression softened slightly. What happened today must have shaken her. That was why she wasn't thinking clearly. Nathan raised his hand and gently brushed her hair, his tone softening. "Give it some time, okay? We'll talk about it after we find Evelyn." Annelise pressed on, "You'll divorce her soon, right?" Nathan gently pulled away, his tone turning stiff. "Annelise, I know Evelyn has wronged you before, and you're upset. But she's missing right now. Let's put this aside for now." Before Annelise could say anything else, he picked up his coat and walked out of the room.

Awakening From A Toxic Billionaire Marriage
7.9
I woke up in a sterile hospital room, my head split open from a horrific car crash. But the pain in my skull was nothing compared to the memory burned into my retinas just before the impact: my billionaire husband, Dawson, walking into a luxury hotel with a woman who looked exactly like his dead first love. When Dawson finally arrived at the ward, there was no panic or relief in his eyes. He just coldly looked at my bloody bandages. "Your reckless driving just forced me to postpone the quarterly board meeting." Even our seven-year-old son, who I almost died giving birth to, didn't spare me a single glance. He kicked my hospital bed in annoyance. "The Wi-Fi here is garbage. You're a bad mom! Dad said Aunt Angelita should be the one living with us!" My blood turned to ice. For five years, I had bent over backward, wearing the hideous pale dresses he picked, starving myself to maintain a fragile figure, all to be a perfect, obedient substitute for a ghost. And this was what I got. An unfaithful husband who would rather bury me in debt than grant me a divorce, and a son who wished I was dead. The weak, subservient Charlene died on that wet asphalt. When the doctor pointed to Dawson and asked for his name, I looked at my husband with a hollow, defensive stare. "Who are you?" I whispered. Using retrograde amnesia as my shield, I was going to tear their perfect world apart.

For twenty years, I lived as the adopted daughter of the wealthy Hill family. But today, they forced me to sign a severance agreement and kicked me out so their precious biological daughter, Malia, could marry my fiancé. To ruin me completely, they framed me for stealing Malia's engagement bracelet, threatening me with prison. I calmly exposed the "sapphire" as cheap glass, then rolled up my sleeves to show the reporters my scarred, punctured arms. For two decades, I wasn't a daughter. I was Malia's living blood and bone marrow bank. They drained my health to keep her alive, even ordering doctors to ignore my failing organs just so she could attend a gala. "Take this million dollars and shut your mouth," my adoptive father sneered, throwing a check at my feet. My ex-fiancé looked at me with disgust, and Malia screamed that I was a crazy, vindictive liar. They had stolen my life and my health, yet they still looked down on me like I was garbage. I ripped the check into pieces and threw it in their faces. Just as they ordered the butler to drag me out, a group of men in black suits shattered the chaos. The heir of the untouchable Montgomery dynasty stepped through the door, ignoring the Hills' fawning, and handed me a DNA report. I wasn't a disposable blood bag. His Broken Bride Is A Hidden Genius
9.8
Adeline's stepmother had secretly drugged her for years, turning a child genius into a drooling, mentally disabled laughingstock just so her stepsister could steal her life. But when her greedy father sold her off to Griffin Herring—a violent, untouchable billionaire psychopath—to save his company, things took a deadly turn. Before the wedding, Griffin attacked her in a dark alley, nearly snapping her neck before stealing her grandfather's silver necklace. That necklace held a micro-drive with her family's deepest secrets, and without it, she had nothing. Back at the estate, her situation only worsened. Her stepsister Damaris paraded around in the Herring family's diamond engagement gifts, trying to force-feed Adeline wet dog food on an Instagram live stream. When Adeline's calculated "clumsiness" ruined the video, her furious father locked her in a damp, rusted basement. "Give her to the psycho," her stepmother hissed through the door. "Let him lock her away forever." Listening from the shadows, Adeline's fists clenched until her palms bled. Her supposed mental fog wasn't a tragedy—it was a calculated assassination of her mind. They had destroyed her childhood and were now throwing her to a monster just to keep the billions. The dull, empty look in Adeline's eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a razor-sharp, chilling clarity. She pulled a thin surgical needle from her messy bun and picked the heavy iron padlock in ten seconds. It was time to break into the billionaire's penthouse, take back her necklace, and tear them all apart.

Trapped in a deadly fire at my own engagement party, my lungs burned as I reached a shaking hand out to my fiancé for help. He stopped and looked right at me through the thick smoke. But instead of saving me, he wrapped his jacket tightly around my stepsister and ran, leaving me to burn. I barely survived. But when I woke up in the hospital, my father and stepmother didn't even ask about my injuries. They threw a stack of legal documents right onto my bed. "Sign the papers, Avah. Step aside. Jaclyn is far better suited to be Kain's wife." My fiancé then stormed into the room, publicly humiliating me with false rumors of an illegitimate child and threatening to bankrupt my company. Four years of swallowing my pride to be the perfect, obedient pawn for our family business, all for nothing. They threw me to the wolves without a single second of hesitation, expecting me to just lower my head and cry like I always did. But the fire had burned that pathetic version of me away. I ripped out my IV, letting the blood drip onto the sheets, and tore their contracts straight down the middle. "The engagement is over." I threw my million-dollar ring right at my ex's chest, then picked up the phone to call my trust lawyer. They wanted to take everything from me, so I was going to make them bleed.

The ER doctor, Desiree Dillon, approached her with a syringe. Through a sudden burst of telepathy, Kenzie read the doctor's dark thoughts. Desiree wasn't trying to cure her fever. She deliberately ignored the safe dosage, drawing a lethal amount of Diazepam to permanently silence the crying baby and disguise it as sudden infant death. "This will make it all go away," Desiree smiled gently, the needle glinting as it moved inches from Kenzie's arm. Trapped in a weak, paralyzed three-month-old body, Kenzie couldn't run, fight, or even speak. She could only watch the poison inch closer. How could she survive death only to be assassinated in a hospital bed by a corrupt doctor? She used to command armies.
