The Man Who Agreed to Marry Me, But I Married Someone Else

Two years ago, I was in a car accident. Due to the high number of injured patients who were unconscious, the ambulances were only transporting those with severe injuries.

As I was still conscious, I had to wait for the next available transport. But at that moment, I felt like my internal organs had been shattered, and I was so dizzy that I thought I might die at any second.

Terrified of dying, I called Granger. He was on vacation at the time, but I wanted him to come save me.

However, when he received my call, he thought I was being unreasonable. He assumed I was lying about the accident just to get him to come see me, and he refused my plea for help.

Later, I only found out through a post on Melody's social media account.

During the time of my accident, Granger was performing orthopedic surgery on her pet dog, Fifi.

In his eyes, I, his official girlfriend, wasn't even as important as his intern's dog.

My mom and I took turns taking care of my dad, alternating days.

When I went to relieve my mom, I saw Melody, dressed in a white coat, sitting by my dad's bedside, laughing and chatting.

Noticing that my dad's IV bag was almost empty, she eagerly offered, "Uncle, wait a moment. I'll go get a new bag to replace it for you right away."

My mom and dad smiled, saying, "Okay, thank you, doctor."Melody turned around and saw me standing in the doorway, looking displeased.

She smiled and stuck out her tongue playfully, saying, "Hey, Evelina! I heard you were back, so I came to check on you guys."

I didn't say a word, my face dark as I set down the thermos. Mom chided me, "What's wrong with you? The doctor is being so friendly, taking time out of her busy schedule to chat with us and even encouraging your dad to get out of bed more. How can you be so rude?"

I pouted, not wanting to argue with my parents, and forced a smile. "Yes, yes, Mom's always right. Let's not talk about that now. Come try this chicken soup I made myself. I managed to get my hands on a free-range chicken. It's very nutritious."

Just then, Melody came in with an IV bag. As she was about to connect it, I stopped her.

Melody looked hurt and said, "What's wrong, Evelina? I'm just changing your dad's IV. If you keep holding onto me, the blood will backflow."

I snatched the IV bag from her hand and pointed at the label, saying, "If you can't do a nurse's job properly, then don't do it at all. Look at this name. Is it my dad's name and bed number? Were you going to change his IV without even checking?"

Melody's face turned pale as she looked. Her voice choked up as she said, "I... I didn't mean to. I just wanted to change Uncle's IV quickly."She was crying in her white coat. Anyone who didn't know the situation might think I was bullying her.

The parents who had just been defending Melody were now silent. After all, mixing up medications is a hard pill to swallow for anyone.

Even the patient in the next bed chimed in with a few critical remarks, which made Melody break down sobbing uncontrollably.

She bowed to me and apologized through her tears, "I'm so sorry, Evelina. I had no idea my good intentions could have led to such a terrible mistake. It's all my fault."

Just then, an angry roar came from the doorway, "What the hell are you doing?!"

In the next second, Granger violently shoved me again, causing my side to slam against the bed rail.

The car accident had left me without a spleen and with multiple fractures. My body was now held together with metal plates, and that push had hit me right where I was injured.

It made me break out in a cold sweat, and my vision started to blur with stars.

Granger hugged Melody and yelled at me, "Evelina, if you have any issues or grievances, you can take them up with me. But you absolutely cannot bully Melody. She's just a resident doctor in training. As patients, can't you show a little more understanding?

If you keep picking on young doctors like this, who's going to want to become a doctor to treat you in the future?"
