The Disabled Tycoon's Lethal Substitute Bride Chapter 1

The cursor blinked on the screen, a steady pulse in the dim room. It illuminated a single line of text: Neurotoxin Profile: C-27. Case File: Catherine Carlisle.

Eleonora Carlisle's fingers hovered over the trackpad, her breath a ghost in the silence. Her eyes, cold and focused, scanned the encrypted toxicology report. She wasn't a grieving daughter lost in memories. She was a hunter tracking her prey.

The sharp click of heels echoed from the hallway outside.

The sound stopped directly at her door.

In a single, fluid motion, Eleonora swiped the trackpad. The toxicology report vanished, replaced by the glossy homepage of a luxury shopping website.

The door flew open without a knock.

Sharon Rush stood there, her tailored suit expensive but tacky. Her face was a mask of undisguised contempt. She was Eleonora's stepmother, a woman who had married into the Rush family and treated Eleonora like dirt under her designer heels.

Her daughter, Jessica Rush, leaned against the doorframe behind her. She held up her new iPhone, the camera lens aimed directly at Eleonora. A malicious smile played on her lips. She was recording this for her social media followers—another episode of "tormenting the pathetic stepsister."

"Still looking at things you'll never afford?" Jessica's voice was sickly sweet, laced with acid. The phone's camera panned across Eleonora's simple dress and the room's worn furniture.

Eleonora flinched, her shoulders hunching. She lowered her eyes, a perfect imitation of fear.

Sharon, pleased with her daughter's cruelty, strode to the desk. Her finger, tipped with a blood-red nail, tapped sharply on the wood. "Stop wasting time, Eleonora. Your good days are over."

Eleonora looked up, her eyes wide with carefully crafted confusion. "Aunt Sharon, what do you mean?"

A cold laugh escaped Sharon's lips. She pulled a document from her handbag and slapped it onto the desk. "The Kemp family marriage contract. It was supposed to be Jessica's, but now, the 'honor' is all yours."

Jessica let out an exaggerated sigh. "You should thank me, sister. I have no interest in marrying that dying invalid, Damien Kemp. I hear he's in a wheelchair, has a terrible temper, and won't live to see thirty."

Eleonora's pupils contracted, a flicker too small to see. Damien Kemp. The true heir to the Kemp fortune, who had vanished from public life after a car crash three years ago. This wasn't a misfortune. It was an opportunity.

A storm raged inside her, but on the surface, her face went deathly pale. Her body swayed. "No... I can't... I..."

"You don't have a choice." Sharon's voice was like poisoned ice. "Our family's company needs the Kemp investment. This is the only contribution you can make as a member of this family."

She leaned in close, her voice dropping to a threatening whisper. "Your father has already agreed. If you dare to resist, or say one wrong word to the Kemps, I'll leak the 'scandals' about you and your dead mother to every media outlet."

At the mention of her mother, Eleonora's hands, hidden at her sides, clenched into fists. Her nails dug into her palms, a sharp, grounding pain. A chilling light flashed in her eyes, there and gone in an instant.

She forced her hands to relax. When she looked up again, her eyes were filled with tears, her voice trembling. "I... I'll do it."

Seeing her broken, Sharon and Jessica exchanged a triumphant look.

Jessica put her phone away and sauntered over, tossing a cheap cardboard box onto Eleonora's bed. "Here. Your wedding dress. Asking the Kemps for too much would make us look greedy. This suits your status perfectly."

Inside the box was an out-of-style, coarsely made white dress. It looked like a thrift store reject.

"The wedding is in three days," Sharon commanded. "I'll be hiring an etiquette coach to 'instruct' you until then. We can't have you embarrassing the Rush family name."

The so-called "instruction" would be nothing but torture and humiliation.

Eleonora didn't argue. She just nodded silently, like a puppet with its strings cut.

Satisfied, Sharon and Jessica left, slamming the door behind them. Jessica's gleeful laughter echoed from the hall.

The room fell silent.

The fear and helplessness on Eleonora's face melted away, leaving only a cold, hard calm.

She rose slowly and walked to the bed, picking up the cheap wedding dress.

There was no anger, no sadness. She simply ran her fingers over the rough fabric, as if assessing a tool.

She walked to the window and looked out at the darkening sky, the distant lights of New York glittering like a promise.

She took out her phone and dialed an encrypted number. When the call connected, she spoke a single sentence, her voice steady and clear.

"Initiate Plan B. Target, the Kemp family."

Hanging up, she slipped the phone away. A cold, calculating smile touched her lips. The Kemp family... she was ready to step into the storm.
