Chapter 8

I took a deep breath after I was sure I was in a safe place, in my car. After Dr. Pierre and I had sex in his office, I felt terrified as I stepped out of his office.

This was absolutely crazy, our second round was even wilder and hotter. Even though the atmosphere seemed tense, I still felt worried that someone would discover what we had done.

I drove my car to an auto repair shop only 200 meters from the clinic where I work. I sensed something was wrong with my car after I had forgotten to get regular maintenance for six months.

I opened the car door and stepped out. Mr. James, the manager who usually greeted guests, seemed busy, but when he saw me, he asked one of his employees to come see me.

A very tall young man, probably 195 cm tall, with a muscular build, walked toward me, slightly sweaty and oil-stained. He was wearing only a white singlet, his uniform pulled down and tied at his hips.

He looked at me with an indifferent gaze while chewing gum. His skin was slightly tan, which perfectly complemented her dark brown hair and sparkling golden amber eyes.

"Can I help you, Miss?" He asked in a tone that sounded a little impolite to a customer.

"T-That's my car-"

"Yes, what's wrong with yours?"

"There seems to be a slight problem," I said, captivated by his good looks.

"What's the problem?" He asked, examining my car, which still looked shiny from the outside.

"It stalled a few times while driving. But after a while, it'll be back to normal."

"Is that so?" He said, opening the hood to inspect the engine. He studied my car for a few moments, then turned back to me.

"Okay, I know what the problem is. Can you wait? I'll fix it now!"

"Sure!" I said.

"Then you can sit there and wait! It won't take long."

"It's okay, I'll just stand here. You can fix it, don't mind me!"

"Why? You want to watch me, Miss? Do I really interest you that much?" He said it with utter confidence. I couldn't believe what I'd just heard.

"W-what? Observing you? I just wanted to see how you work, I'm not interested in you at all!" I said, annoyed. Even though he was very handsome, that didn't mean I had to be attracted to him.

"Oh, okay, Miss-"

"Mrs. Meiyer!" I said firmly.

"Really? Okay, Mrs. Meiyer, do whatever you want, okay?"

"Even without you asking, I'll do whatever I want!"

"Okay, go ahead, madam!"

He laughed as if he thought it was funny. He annoyed me, and the first impression he gave was pretty bad. Let me guess, from his face and appearance, I'd guess he was under 30. He looked like a playboy and a reckless young man.

After waiting for 25 minutes, it seemed he had finished his task. He tried to start my car to double-check his work.

"Okay, it looks like it's done. You can drive smoothly now, Mrs. Meiyer!" He said, staring at me with intense eyes.

"Thank you." I walked away from him and went to the cashier to pay for the repairs. I took out a $20 bill and as I walked back to the young man, I handed it directly to him.

"Here's a tip for you, thank you!"

"I don't need it. How about I just ask for your phone number instead!"

"What? My phone number? Are you kidding me?"

"I'm not kidding, ma'am! I'm serious. If your car breaks down in the middle of the road, you can call me anytime."

"I can call this company number if I need help, so I don't have to give you my personal number, right?"

"If you're on the night shift and your car suddenly breaks down, the only person you can contact is me, since your calls won't be answered after 7 p.m., Mrs. Karenina Meiyer!"

I was shocked. How did he know my first name? And how did he know my job involved the night shift? I eyed him suspiciously, trying to figure out how he knew my identity.

I remembered the name tag I'd left near the driver's seat. He'd obviously seen it, which is why he knew my real name and also that I work as a nurse at a large and well-known clinic in this city.

"Okay, you're right! Then, you give me your number, and if I need any help, I'll call you."

"Okay."

He said his number, and I immediately typed it into my phone.

"Your name?"

"Leo."

"Just Leo?"

"Do you need my full name?"

"No, thank you. Okay, Leo, see you later?" I said as I opened my car door and sat in the driver's seat.

Leo leaned over to the car window and deliberately held it with his hand to prevent me from closing it immediately.

"Don't forget to call me, I'll be waiting!" He said as he removed his hand from my window.

Is he serious? He wants me to call him even though there's nothing wrong with my car? He's a very aggressive man, even though I've already pointed out that I'm a married woman.

I drove, occasionally glancing in the rearview mirror just to see him again. He waved and gave me a knowing smile.

This was a very strange day. I had sex with a doctor who turned out to be a patient I treated 10 years ago, and now a young man at the auto repair shop was trying to flirt with me. Did I still seem attractive to them?

After He Rejected Me As His Fraud, I Bankrupted Them Novel Cover

After our passionate encounter, I lay drained on the bed, and Memphis carried me to the bathtub for a soothing soak. Leaning against him, I fumed over what my boss had said earlier. "Can you believe that awful Eliana is taking credit for my hard work and passing it off to another team? Does she think being one rank above gives her the right to do whatever she wants?" Memphis gently stroked my hair. "Don’t hold it against her; I was the one who gave the order. Pick out a handbag tomorrow as compensation." My body tensed, dread creeping through me. Memphis casually twirled my hair around his fingers and nonchalantly mentioned, "Amaia and I are getting married in a month. So make the most of this last month." He might have thought he was joking, but I found nothing amusing about it. Rejecting his invitation for another round of intimacy, I scrambled out of the bathtub, almost slipping. I wrapped a towel around myself, unsure whether I was shivering from the cold or from his words.

Then, my best friend called from the airport. She saw him there, with Kennedy, locked in a Hollywood-style embrace. He wasn't just cheating. This was a long-con. He'd married me to silence me, using my DNA to help Kennedy fraudulently claim the inheritance of the powerful Olsen family-an inheritance that was rightfully mine. He canceled my credit cards, renounced his citizenship, and secretly married her in France, all while I played the part of the loving wife. When I tried to fight back, he had me drugged, imprisoned, and nearly drowned, all to protect his precious Kennedy. He thought he had erased me, a mere footnote in their grand story. But he made one fatal mistake. He didn't know I was the real Olsen heiress. And I was coming back to claim everything he stole.
