Chapter 2

JOSIE'S P.O.V

I got ready with the help of my mother. I must say I look gorgeous.

I later joined her and father in the dining room for breakfast. My mother would never let me go out without eating plus I am a little foodie. I won't skip meals to please anyone, sorry but not sorry.

"Mom, Dad, I am leaving now. Wish me luck." I kissed her on her cheeks, hugged dad and rushed through the door. She was saying something but I did not hear her.

I don't want to be late for my interview that I did not want to attend but since I am already going, why not be punctual?

I rushed to the bus stop in 6inch heels, pencil fitting knee length high waist skirt. A light make up and my hair combed in a high ponytail. I twisted my ankle a few times and I was surprised I haven't fallen yet.

In the bus I had to stand, the bus was jammed in the early mornings with people going to work and where else they needed to go. As a matter of fact, some of these people have nowhere going. They enjoyed taking up space.

I got to the company ten minutes early. I looked at the building before I went in, "The Great CE Business Law Firm here I come."

Is 'The Great' even necessary? Must be a cocky bastard. Well at least he was able to manage his company into one of the most prestigious firms in New York.

I went into the building where I was stopped by one of the receptionists at the front desk, "How may I assist you?" She was very professional and may I add pretty too? She seems like she is naturally friendly, I like her already. I looked at her name tag that says 'Sophie'.

"Hi Sophie, my name is Josephine Garcia and I am here for an intern interview. I am from the Brooks College of Law and Business." I responded with my best smile, not to be outdone in first impression. Yes, I am a child at heart.

"Give me a moment." She moved over to her company phone and made a call.

Soon as she disconnected the line she gestured for me to come forward and I was led to the elevator.

CHRISTIAN'S P.O.V

I sat behind my desk and felt exhausted. I stretched my hand for my coffee and grabbed air, "Fuck, what am I supposed to drink to keep me through the day." I won't lie, I am a bit addicted to coffee.

I need to have Roger buy me a coffee. I headed out of the office and went to his office next to mine. I open it without knocking as I usually don't.

"Can't you knock?" he asked me but I did not respond. It is my company and I am free to go anywhere in it.

"I need a cup of coffee." I demanded.

"Who told you to fire your last Intern?" he asked but I did not want to get into that with him right now.

We were interrupted by his office phone and without acknowledging me any further he picked it up.

There was a bright smile on his face as if he had won a couple million dollars. I heard him saying to the person on the other end, "Yes, yes. Send her up to the CEO's Office."

Why the hell is he sending someone to my office? He hung up the phone and I tilted my head with a frown, "Who is it?"

"Please to go back to your office. There is a young lady from The Brook's College of Business Law coming up for an interview. I almost forgot about her. She is here for an internship in the Researching Department, but can you make her your Intern Assistant?" he raised his eyebrow and I know it is more of a telling than asking.

"It seems you forgot who is in charge here." I am normally the one with the authority but today I am really in need of an Assistant that will not answer back and give me headaches.

...

JOSIE'S P.O.V

In the elevator Sophie turned to me, "Mr. Evans is a serious and strict boss. Just be yourself in the interview for he doesn't like pretense. When you get the job, you just work to the best of your ability and you will have no problems with any of the higher ups."

I knew I liked her, "Thank you for your words of encouragement, I will do my best but I am not sure being myself is the best option for me, maybe for other people." Well, she doesn't know how clumsy I can get, it is out of my control. Maybe I am cursed to be clumsy. Ha-ha, I internally laughed at my own foolish thoughts.

Sophie laughed, "I am sure being yourself is not that bad." We reached the 20th Floor and Sophie brought me to the CEO's Office door. She knocked and a hoarse but sexy masculine voice came from inside, "Come in."

Sophie turned to me before she left and said, "Remember to be yourself."

I nodded and opened the door. Before I knew it, I stumbled and there goes my face meeting the surface of the floor. I was awaiting the pain when I noticed it was not reaching the hard floor.

...

CHRISTIAN'S P.O.V

I went back to my office and stood at the floor to ceiling window looking at the busy streets below. Suddenly I heard a knock at the door which must be the new Intern. "Come in."

I waited for a minute but the door hasn't been opened yet. I don't know why the person decides to linger at the door. Is she waiting on me to open it for her?

Suddenly the door opened and there came a short figure flying in.

I hurried to the door to catch the flying woman in time. Our eyes met and I felt something new. What could that be?

I was tied to a concrete pillar in an abandoned warehouse, the heavy stench of gasoline suffocating me. Ten steps away, a masked kidnapper slammed a loaded Glock onto a metal barrel and forced my husband, Alvie, to make a sick choice. "The wife or the mistress. You only get to walk out of here with one." Alvie didn't even blink. He walked straight toward the dark corner where his mistress, Gail, was crying. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, shielding her, and guided her toward the exit. He never looked back. He didn't cast a single glance over his shoulder. To him, I was already a corpse, just trash left on the pavement. The kidnapper laughed and tossed a lighter onto the soaked concrete floor. A wall of ghostly blue fire erupted instantly, swallowing me whole. The absolute agony of my skin blistering and melting shattered my sanity. In my last moments, consumed by the inferno, I couldn't understand how the man I had loved and served so submissively could leave me to burn alive.
