Chapter 3

CHRISTIAN'S P.O.V

I hurriedly composed myself and reprimanded her coldly, "You haven't gotten the job as yet and you are here throwing yourself into my arms?"

She looked so frightened by my outburst, and it was obvious her reaction was not on purpose, but I had to put on a show so she can remove any thoughts she might have in the future.

"I didn't... I, I swear I didn't." she stuttered. I had on a cold expression, but I did not let her go. In fact, I like the feeling of the softness of her petite body in my arms. Our close contact is having my heart beating so rapidly, I swear it might skip a few.

"Sir, you are still holding onto me." I cleared my throat and let her up.

I went to my chair and sat there like the king I am. I looked at her and was amused by how red her face was at this moment. Is she blushing from embarrassment?

She seemed different from the rest that walked inside my offices. Usually they are flirty, babbling their eyes as if they have a terrible ocular disease. Innocence is written all over this one.

This one is quite unique. Interesting.

She was standing there in the same spot dressed in a pencil skirt that fit perfectly with her physique. Even though she has a petite body, she had wide hips, a normal size breast; not huge but not too small either; just perfect and not to mention, she is a shorty. Not saying that is my preference, but they are intriguing.

I surfed my eyes up to her face only to see an angry little Lioness. Her face was already red from the embarrassment a few minutes ago, I haven't told her to sit because I was busy checking her out.

This is unusual for me. She has barely been here five minutes and I am already lusting. I have never tried sleeping with any of my employees before.

"Ahem" I cleared my throat from embarrassment and gestured to the chair for her to be seated.

"What is your name?" I asked while pulling her file on my computer that was just sent over from HR since they are supposed to be doing her interview for another department. It might be an internship, but she is still required to go through all the processes.

I was desperate for a mini assistant, so I had asked HR to get me one earlier, or rather Roger did.

JOSIE'S P.O.V

I was standing there like a statue waiting for this man to tell me to be seated. I was told that the interviewee should not be seated until they are told to do so and my feet are killing me. Probably a bit swollen by now.

He had accused me of seducing him as soon as I got into the office. Who told him to catch me? Ridiculous! I hissed inwardly.

Now he is checking out my entire body. I don't want to work for a pervert. He is good looking for sure and not to mention his strong muscles when he held me in his arms. It was like a fitted jigsaw puzzle even when he is almost twice my height. Well, not so much but you know what I mean.

I almost wanted to stay there and nestled in his arms until he opened his mouth to accuse me of seducing him. I am not that type of girl that will throw themselves on any rich man they encounter.

His body felt good, but I don't want to have sex with anyone anytime soon. That incident had me traumatized for too long.

"Ahem" he gestured for me to be seated finally, "What is your name?"

I sat down, still upset about my swollen ankle. I am not going back into one of these killers. I bent to loosen the straps of my heels and when I touched my ankle, I winced in pain. "My name is Josephine Garcia."

I held up my head when I felt the room became extremely cold. "Ahh!" I screamed when I saw his icy face staring coldly at me. "Are you going to kill me?"

The words fly out before I could even think.

"Did you come here to make a mockery of me?" His handsome face was letting off steam by now but yet the room temperature remained cold. I shivered in my seat not sure if I should be hot or cold.

"No sir, I wouldn't even dream of doing that." I took a deep breath and responded quickly.

I gathered everything in me and continued, "I was selected by my school to come for an interview here." His mere presence made me nervous, and I was not the one to be nervous easily.

I was shocked by his response and introduction.

"I am Christian Evans and you should be happy to be in my presence." He stared at me proclaiming himself to be a king.

I had to fight the urges of rolling my eyes at him.

"I mean, you're cute and everything but do you seriously have to be a narcissist?" I retorted in my head and then smiled at him as if he were giving a high-class speech.

"Excuse me! What did you say?" he blurted out angrily as if he would kill me at any second and I knew at that moment that I did not keep my thoughts to myself.

I scratched my head and tried to look at everything in this office except him.

Well not bad, the office is well decorated in black, white and silver. The colors complement each other and give it a luxurious feeling.

"It looks like you don't want a job. Why did you even bother to come here?" he scoffed sarcastically.

My feet are killing me, but I tried to endure the pain in my ankles and answered honestly, "I always wanted to work here ever since I started college, and I know this will be a great experience for me when I finally graduate. I want to learn from the best, from your best employees."

The department I was sent to interview for as an intern is the research department and I would have to do a lot of passed work hours' duty. I would have to work in groups and go out to gather evidence for cases being handled by the certified lawyers.

That should be a lot of fun even though it is a lot of work in comparison to the other departments. It is the best department for me to get experience from until I graduate and can become an attorney at law.

Well, that was what I wanted until three weeks ago, I don't think I am ready to put myself out there as yet. I don't want history to repeat itself, but I know I must find comfort in life and move on.

"It seems you have come to the wrong place. That is not a valid reason for me to hire you." He was looking at me as if he were trying to see straight through me.

I could not tell him the real reason. I am not ready to talk about it and if I do, it will be to someone close to me.

I decided to ask the question that I was concerned about.

"Mr. Evans, do you have any departments with fewer males? I would truly appreciate it." I knew I was pushing my luck but I had to chance it. I want to work in a department where I get off work before dark and less males to lust after me.

He was staring at me as if we did not speak the same language. Am I not speaking English?

Forget it, I don't want to work for a cocky boss. He seems like the type of boss who would throw a tantrum for no reason.

Several minutes passed and I thought he would not respond. I positioned my handbag so I could get up but before I could, I heard him ask, "Tell me Miss Garcia, why do you think I should really hire you?

I was tied to a concrete pillar in an abandoned warehouse, the heavy stench of gasoline suffocating me. Ten steps away, a masked kidnapper slammed a loaded Glock onto a metal barrel and forced my husband, Alvie, to make a sick choice. "The wife or the mistress. You only get to walk out of here with one." Alvie didn't even blink. He walked straight toward the dark corner where his mistress, Gail, was crying. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, shielding her, and guided her toward the exit. He never looked back. He didn't cast a single glance over his shoulder. To him, I was already a corpse, just trash left on the pavement. The kidnapper laughed and tossed a lighter onto the soaked concrete floor. A wall of ghostly blue fire erupted instantly, swallowing me whole. The absolute agony of my skin blistering and melting shattered my sanity. In my last moments, consumed by the inferno, I couldn't understand how the man I had loved and served so submissively could leave me to burn alive.
