Chapter 5

Natasha I refreshed the page to confirm. It had to be network issues. There was no way my savings would be gone. However, it returned the same way. $0 and nothing more. At this point, I felt asphyxiated again. I grabbed a paper bag and breathed with it. I found my way outside and I could feel the breeze against my face. There was only one person who could have withdrawn the savings apart from me. That was Marie. I could remember she looked nervous when I talked about using the savings to get a new place earlier. I ran back inside and grabbed my phone. I dialed Marie's contact immediately. She picked up at the second ring. "Did you transfer the money in my savings to your bank account already? You should have told me," I tried masking my fears. "I'm sorry, Natasha..." I heard those dreaded words. I had to sit down now else I could faint. "What are you sorry for?" I asked calmly. "I... I am sorry..." Marie went again. "Tell me the reason!" I shouted at her. I lost my temper for a second and then I regained composure. "I need to know, please." "Bajie saw an investment scheme a few months ago and needed some money. I used your savings and planned to return it when it yields the desired profit. I didn't tell you because you'll just say it's a scam and refuse to lend Bajie the money," Marie said slowly. She was choosing her words delicately. "When will I get my money back?" I asked calmly. "The thing is..." Marie muttered. "It was a scam!" I dropped my phone. I managed to stand up and get to the verandah. There, I laid down on the bare floor and wept. I was penniless now. Marie had foolishly ended whatever hope I had before. Then I stopped crying and switched to laughing hysterically. I must be going crazy, I thought. I could hear my phone ringing inside. I knew it was Marie. I decided to go back inside and pick up the phone. This time, I talked first. "You've ruined me, Marie!" I told her without mincing words. "I trusted you but this is how you stab me in the back. I knew you were struggling in your career and that's why I never pressured you to do anything. I pay the household bills, the rent, and almost everything else. You were my best friend yet you betrayed me for that useless boyfriend of yours!" "I'm sorry," Marie said. That didn't move me at all. "It's all my fault. Bajie did nothing wrong. I should have..." "Shut it!" I shouted over the phone. "Get over here right now and let's find a solution! I'm sure you don't want either of us to sleep in the streets." "I haven't told you everything..." Marie said nervously. "I also borrowed money from a loan shark. It was about fifteen thousand dollars." I started to laugh. "That's a joke, right? Comic relief!" I wanted to know. "I was supposed to pay back last month but I couldn't. The loan shark has our house address. I think he is coming there today," Marie said carefully. "Really?" I clenched my fists. "I'm staying at a hotel with Bajie for now. You should get out of the house as well. If the loan shark meets you there, I have no idea what he will do. The man has a lot of gangsters on his beck and call," Marie concluded. "Bitch!" I shouted angrily. Marie cut the call immediately and I couldn't vent my anger properly. Marie never said it but I was sure she borrowed that money with my name. It dawned on me that I had been living with my enemy since. There was no time to wait. I packed a small bag and left the house immediately. I had no idea where I was going and I had only a little money with me as well. Green light. Time to use the pedestrian crossing. I was walking slowly, lost in thought. I didn't know what happened until I heard a car's tires screech so loudly beside me. It almost hit me. "Do you want to get yourself killed?" I heard the driver shouting. My eyes went blurry and as I tried to take a single step, I collapsed. **My eyes opened slowly. Regaining consciousness was like waking up from a dream. The first person I saw was Marie. Infact, she was the only one in the room. "Bitch!" I retorted. How could those be my first words, huh? It could only mean she had been etched so badly into my memory. "Are you okay?" She asked. "Get out! All you did to me were things only an evil person would do. You want me dead, don't you?" I asked out of anger. The door opened and I watched as Bruce entered. "I see you are awake!" Bruce said and came right beside me. "What are you doing here? Are you here to mock me?" I asked. I was surrounded by two vile humans. "I heard the whole story from your friend," Bruce told me. "Your hospital bills have been paid and I have paid off that loan shark as well. I'll renew your rent as well. I trust that will be enough for now." "Why would you do that for me?" I wanted to know. "Think of it as hitting the jackpot!" Bruce replied. "Or better still, think of me has your prince in shining armor." "I don't believe in things like that!" I told him firmly. "Then you can start now..." Bruce replied. He turned to leave. "Stop!" I shouted. "I'm a patient. Don't stress me, boss. Tell me what you want in exchange. You're a businessman. How do you expect me to believe you've given me all that for free?" Bruce smiled and turned towards Marie. "Bring the doctor, Marie. Let them know Natasha is awake," Bruce said. Marie went out of the room, leaving both of us alone. "Tell me," I said calmly. "A contract marriage. Three months only."

I crawled to our master bedroom, crying and begging him for just one temporary bite to save my life. Instead, he locked the door from the inside. "Go back to your room. I told you I didn't want to deal with you this weekend." Through the crack under the door, I smelled the cheap perfume of his mistress. While I was dying in the hallway, forced to inject a toxic black-market suppressant that made me vomit blood, he was sleeping with her in our bed. Days later, a drunk Braydon pinned me to the floor, trying to violently force a permanent mark on my neck just to assert his dominance. When I fought him off, he blamed me for provoking him and casually tossed a credit card at me to buy my silence. "Go buy whatever you want. Just tell the clinic you slipped in the shower." Staring at the man who was supposed to protect me, my heart went completely cold. Why did I ever think this monster would change? This wasn't a marriage anymore; it was a cage, and the animal inside it was trying to kill me. I quietly pressed the record button on my phone, capturing every single word of his twisted bribe. Then, I pulled out a matte black business card and called the terrifying Enigma CEO who had been waiting for me in the shadows.

Flash Marriage To The Hidden Billionaire
8.0
My abusive step-family isolated me completely, holding my mother's medical funds hostage to control my every move. Yesterday, they finalized my sale. "You will marry Rudy Petrov next month. He is fifty, wealthy, and willing to overlook your lack of pedigree." Pushed to the absolute edge, I did the insane. I posted an ad online offering my life savings of $50,000 for a contract husband. A stranger named Brennan agreed. But my family wouldn't let me go. They forced me back for a dinner by threatening my mother's life-saving prescriptions. At the table, they relentlessly mocked my new "poor IT guy" husband and intentionally burned my hand with boiling tea. Worse, the housekeeper locked me in a guest room and forced drugs down my throat so Rudy could come in and assault me. I lay there paralyzed on the floor, bleeding from Rudy's slap, utterly terrified. I couldn't understand why my own family would throw me to the wolves, and I felt a crushing guilt for dragging an innocent, ordinary guy into my nightmare. Until a pitch-black Maybach smashed through the estate's wrought-iron gates at eighty miles an hour. My "poor" husband kicked the solid oak doors off their hinges, beat Rudy half to death, and carried me out into the rain. I didn't know it yet, but the ordinary man I hired to save me was a ruthless billionaire, and he was about to erase my family's entire empire by morning.
His Unwanted Wife Is Madame Lan

Andrea was trapped in a suffocating marriage with billionaire Gregory Morse, forced to live as the pathetic substitute for his dead fiancée. When armed intruders broke into their estate in the dead of night, she called her husband in pure terror. "Stop playing these cheap, attention-seeking games," Gregory sneered with disgust, and hung up the phone. She barely escaped with her life, but the cruelty only escalated. At the family mansion, his dead fiancée's sister deliberately scalded Andrea's hand with boiling tea. Instead of defending his wife, Gregory publicly humiliated her, ordering her to clean up the mess while calling her a stray dog. That night, hiding in the dark wine cellar, Andrea overheard a chilling confession. Gregory admitted to his brother that he knew Andrea was completely innocent of the car crash that killed his fiancée. He knew she had been framed. Why did he marry her? Just to use her as a psychological punching bag to vent his twisted grief. He watched her suffer every single day, treating her like disposable trash, while violently threatening anyone who showed her an ounce of kindness. He thought she was just a useless, helpless shadow who would quietly endure his torment forever. He had no idea that behind her submissive facade, she was secretly Madame Lan, the apex predator of the global fashion world. And now, she was ready to burn his empire to the ground.
The Billionaire's Captive: A Heart Broken

I arrived at the mansion with nothing but the clothes on my back, expecting to work off my debt, but I quickly realized I was just inventory. The air in the hallway was kept at a freezing temperature, a deliberate choice to preserve the art and remind girls like me that we were nothing more than furniture. Inside the room, the sounds of a Hollywood starlet and a powerful man echoed through the walls, followed by the sight of discarded silk and cold, hard cash scattered across the marble floor. When I accidentally stood in the way, I was tripped, mocked as trash, and left to bleed on the cold floor while the security guards watched with dead eyes. Even when I begged for my passport, Chadwich Carey didn't see a human being; he saw a stain on his pristine, expensive reality that needed to be erased. He crushed my fingers in the door, dragged me into the dark, and eventually used me to satisfy a drug-fueled hunger that no one else could touch, only to discard me back into the rain like garbage. I sat in the freezing Bronx alley, shivering in his oversized shirt, realizing that he never intended to give me my freedom. He thought he had broken me, that I was just another nameless girl to be silenced, but he was wrong. I am not a box to be packed away or a hand to be severed. He taught me that in this world, money and violence are the only languages that matter. I will learn them both, and when I return, I won't be begging for my passport; I’ll be taking everything he owns.
