The Billionaire's Silent Witness Chapter 1

Eliza Moore didn't think things just happened by chance. It felt like someone who had studied her life for years had planned out every step she took and every street she passed. And maybe it did. She hugged her coat tighter against the cold Boston night, and her heels made a sharp noise on the wet pavement. The rain made the streets slick and shiny, and the orange streetlights looked like streaks that danced in the puddles. Every shadow seemed to move and whisper her name.

Her apartment was only a few blocks away, but every step felt like running through a gauntlet. She tried to tell herself that it was just paranoia, that the world had moved on, and that she was finally free. But she knew better deep down. The night she saw the murder that no one believed had never really left her.

A man came out of the alley in front of us. Not a random person on the street. His movements were slow, careful, and almost unnaturally calm. Eliza stopped moving, and her heart raced like a drum in her chest.

A deep voice from behind her said, "Are you looking for someone?"

She turned around, panic rising. A tall man with a perfectly fitted suit came up to me, shoulders straight, and eyes that pierced. He didn't grin. He didn't stop. He walked like he owned the street.

"Who... who are you?" she stammered, instinctively taking a step back.

"I could ask you the same thing," he said in a low, commanding voice. "You shouldn't be out alone tonight."

Her stomach sank. She was familiar with him. Or at the very least, she should. It was Alexander Hale who had that face and that intensity. The same man whose father she saw killed years ago.

The same man who had haunted her dreams since then, even after she changed her name, moved to a new city and tried to disappear.

She made herself look away. "I'm just going home."

"Eliza, you shouldn't lie to me." His voice was cold and unyielding, but it had a weight to it that made her shiver.

Her thoughts were racing. How did he know her name? That name wasn't hers anymore; it hadn't been hers for years. She had buried it deep, under layers of new identities and a quiet, lonely life.

And now he knew.

A shadow moved across the street before she could answer. Two men, their faces hidden by dark coats, moved with an unsettling level of accuracy. Her heart raced. Her breath caught.

Alexander's hand shot out and grabbed her arm with surprising force. "Go."

Her heels clicked loudly on the wet pavement as they ran to the courtyard outside her building.

Footsteps echoed behind them, getting faster and closer. She was afraid that fear would take over, but Alexander's calm, steady presence kept her grounded. He moved with such precision that, for a brief moment, she thought they might really get away.

The men were gone by the time they got to the small courtyard. Her chest heaved and her lungs burned, but the relief didn't last long.

Alexander let go of her arm but kept his eyes on the street. "You're in danger," he said. "Someone has been following you." "It's linked to me."

"Connected... to you?" There was a tremor in her voice.

"Yes," he said, without looking away. "And you need to be safe." "I can give it to you, but only if you trust me."

Have faith. The word made her stomach turn. She had known for a long time that it was dangerous to trust people. That the wrong person could end everything in a flash.

"Why now?" she finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

He said, "Because they found you." "And because you saw something years ago that someone doesn't want you to know." I can keep you safe. But you have to come with me.

Eliza's mind was racing. She thought she had put this part of her past behind her a long time ago. She had changed her name, moved to a new city, and tried to stay out of the spotlight, but she had never really gotten away. And now, Alexander Hale had found her. He was aware.

She thought about her choices before making a decision. Running again would just get more attention. It was impossible to fight him.

Finally, her instinct for survival kicked in. She nodded her head. "Okay. "I'm going.

Alexander's grip on her arm got a little tighter, as if to say, "I know." "Good choice."

The ride was tense and quiet, except for the sound of the engine. Eliza's eyes kept darting out the window, looking for shadows and listening for any sign of someone following her. Alexander didn't say anything, but the air between them was thick with danger, power, and something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

In the end, she couldn't help herself. "Why me?" "Why now?"

Alexander's jaw got tight. "Because you are the only one who knows what really happened to my father. "And because if I don't keep you close, someone else will hurt you or use you against me.

The words hurt her like a punch in the face. She had made it through all these years thinking she was invisible and that the past couldn't hurt her. But it might. And now it had.

Eliza swallowed hard, and her voice shook. "I... I don't know if I can do this."

He said calmly, "You don't have a choice." "Not really." But I can make sure you live.

Her eyes were full of fear and, strangely, relief. She felt the tiniest thread of safety for the first time in years.

They made it to a safe house, a small but safe apartment that Alexander had set up for them. He led her inside and checked the doors, locks, and the area around the house. She saw how quietly and efficiently he moved, like someone who had been in charge and powerful for a long time.

He said, "You will stay here tonight." "Tomorrow, we start to plan." Eliza, you won't be alone. "Not anymore."

Her head was spinning. By yourself. Not by yourself. Safe. But stuck. She didn't want to say it, but the stress, fear, and threat of being found out had been killing her for years. It felt manageable with him for some reason.

She really looked at him for the first time. Cold. Unforgiving. Strong. But there was something in his eyes that hinted at something more—safety, loyalty, maybe even understanding.

That night, she couldn't sleep because she could hear the city outside, and her heart was still racing. Her mind kept going over every detail, every shadow, and every whispered word. She realized something scary and exciting at the same time: living under the watchful eyes of Alexander Hale was more dangerous than she had ever thought. But for the first time in years, she thought she might live, not alone, but with him.

She knew this was just the beginning, though. The secret she had kept for so long, the danger she had tried to avoid, had finally caught up with her. And now it had brought her face-to-face with the man who could either save her or kill her.
