Chapter 3

"Olivia was shot"?

My mum's tone was wavering, and emphatic she stood abruptly after my dad related the news. I'm still in bed , shocked by the news. I can't say anything yet to my father, my mixed emotions couldn't decipher if I'm happy that Olivia was shot earlier today or that my father just signed a contract that might lead to the company on the brink of faltering.

"Dad, I want to leave"! My words were sharp, my face was poised towards the paneled ceiling, my expression showed the grimace of disgust and serious anger.

"You can't leave, your body needs healing. I don't want any unknown incident to occur"

"Dad I'm fine, pls let me leave this place now"! My voice is getting louder this time.

"You can't, don't you get my words? It's not safe outside". Like seriously this man is trying to protect me? From who? At what pace? I ain't scared of anything.

My dad turned to leave very swiftly before I could say anything, I knew he was hiding something and I would kick the words out of his mouth if I had to.

I still don't believe he signed the contract. He knew perfectly the consequence of what he did, then why of all misfortune did he decide to sign this contract? He was forced to sign those papers, I believe so, but he won't say a thing all in the name of protecting me.

Weeks passed and my frail body became healed. I could walk, then I could get revenge. It wasn't quite long when I heard Olivia died in the emergency room fighting for her life.

Who killed her?

What happened to my father?

Who is behind all these sudden events?

Why I'm I thinking it out loud? I could start planning what to do by now.

"Your brother is at home, he should be busy with your father's meeting proposal". My mum said as she gently placed my head under the car trims.

The ride was soft with every sight busy and mute, with the sound proof of the car. My dad hasn't come to visit since the last time we talked. According to my mum, my dad has been in the company building for nights, and my brother has been helpful around the house.

I know he hates this situation, he isn't a fan of rigorous work, he loves extreme sports and women especially, with his fine spun hair, his sharp and chiseled features, and magnetic attraction which could draw a naive woman to his trousers wanting every bit of him and every taste of his dark handsome world.

The luxurious sedan got to our opulent residence, its gentle tires rolling softly on the landscaped grounds, with every view screaming luxury. I love this life and I would do anything to stay in it.

"Welcome Madame" Timothy's voice was sharp and submissive. His hands clutched the car handle with a soft bow, his hands still on the handle, he welcomed both me and mum into the villa.

The empty spaces and silent rooms gave humming sounds of boredom, I could hear my brother grumbling in his room, his hands flipped through loud papers, and fiscal reports. I guess he is doing my job now that I'm frail and recovering.

"You would be a better chief financial officer than anyone else in this family, " my mother said, wearing a soft smile. She could hear my brother's loud voice cutting through the humming sounds of the silence in the residence.

We were in the living chamber looking at each other in silence, our eyes looking for words to say, when a deep screech could be heard from the parking space with a sharp snap shutting the car doors swiftly accompanied by loud footsteps coming towards our direction.

"IT'S DONE! I'M A FINISHED MAN! I'VE FAILED THIS FAMILY". My dad stood still on the ground, one hand on his waist, the other stroking his face up then touching his forehead in a fatigued stance.

"What's wrong William"? My mum slightly raised herself up her hands still on the chair handle.

"Those guys have taken all my shares, they've burnt it all to the ground".

At first I was silent, no words, my face was numb, my heart was beating fast, my words had less time for saying anything yet.

Then.

For three years, I was the perfect, invisible wife to Bart Brown. Now." My rare Rh-negative blood was the only thing the Brown family valued. Bart didn't want a wife; he wanted a walking blood bank for his "sick" best friend, Crysta. While I was fainting from chronic anemia, Crysta was smirking in her hospital bed, clutching Bart's hand and mocking my "peasant" lifestyle. Even his mother treated me like a servant, demanding I vacuum the floors after I'd already offered my veins for the hundredth time. When I finally reached my breaking point and signed the divorce papers, they didn't let me go quietly. They filed a false police report, accusing me of stealing a multi-million dollar diamond necklace just to watch me crawl. I didn't understand how a family could be so heartless. I had cooked their meals, cleaned their house, and literally bled for them, yet they were determined to ruin my life the moment I stopped being useful. Did they really think I was a nobody with nowhere to go? Standing outside the hospital with a bruised wrist and nothing to my name, I didn't cry. I simply took off my cheap wedding ring and dialed a secure line I hadn't touched since the day I married him. "It's me, Dad," I whispered as a fleet of black Maybachs rounded the corner. "The extraction is a go. I'm coming home."
