Chapter 4

It all happened fast, the company's financial holdings now sold for a %10 profit which went to us as a form of compensation for the huge loss.

We had to sell most of our assets and sack most of our staff. I meant domestic household staff, not office staff for we had no company shares anymore. My brother and my mum went from executive staff to street workers, my dad went from owning a top financial shares in a vibrant financial company to a broken man who sits on the couch watching commercial News.

"Food is ready"! My mum brought out the plastic bags filled with vegetables, pasta noodles and fish. She brought it cooked, not organic. My mum can't cook. I can't cook. No one in the family can cook so we survive with plastic foods.

"Are you planning on getting a new job my dear"? My mum asked with a concerned tone.

"You know your brother and I can't feed this family alone, I'm doing lots of jobs including the back breaking ones". She continued.

"I had to clean deep shits in the toilet today", my brother interrupted, his hands already pushing the food into his mouth before using the fork.

He works overtime in the hotel, while my mum works in a retail store as a sales assistant.

"I'm working on it ma, tomorrow I will visit Mr Fletcher. I've booked an appointment with him." I said my face gummed to the food on the plastic surface with my mouth chewing slowly.

"Mr Fletcher!? Of all people I wouldn't consider that pervert". My brother blurts out.

"He isn't safe my dear" My mum said sharply.

"He will touch you before you bring your proposal, he is a flirty bastard". Now my brother is going too far.

"And I will kill him if he tries". I retorted back before he could say anything else.

Today is the D Day. My steps were fidgety, and I clenched my files tightly. I could see the building bustling with busy staff talking, laughing, some joking around, then moving abruptly to pick files, sign them and pick calls.

I was taken to Mr Fletcher 's office, where I'm given a seat in front of Fletcher who was pretending to take a call while sitting on his office couch.

This man didn't make me sit in front of his desk but his office couch, very interesting.

"How are you Emily? I heard what happened to your father and I'm deeply concerned and empathetic." He starts with his words slow and flirty.

"No problem sir. We're doing fine here" I affirmed.

"I believe you're looking for a job here at my enterprise?

"Yes sir".

"Let me make this easier for you, Emily, you're a fine young woman".

Wow! Just Wow, when did you start calling your enemy someone you hate, a fine young woman?

"I like to work one on one with you as my assistant." His hands are already moving towards my pencil skirt. He was fast, like he wanted to get inside my thighs and finally my panties.

I cleared my throat to bark the pervert off my body, but he seemed defiant to listen. He didn't waste time, he jolted me to the couch with less effort, gave me a swift push to my head, closed my mouth, then reached for my thighs.

Of course I fought back, my hands were in his face, my legs were struggling to jerk his hands off my skirt when suddenly I heard a strong swift push to his jaw making him fall to the other side of the couch.

Of course that wasn't me. Then who was it?

I could barely see him, he had textured crop hair, his biceps hugged the thick linen of his blazers, with a dress shirt.

He charged towards Mr Fletcher, holding his neck making him hard to breathe, then with swift hands, punched his jaw hard, well not hard enough, but he felt the pain.

I wonder who this guy in a dress shirt is, my hero??

For three years, I was the perfect, invisible wife to Bart Brown. On our third anniversary, I stood in the kitchen for four hours, preparing his favorite meal with imported truffles, only to receive a cold text command. "Crysta fainted again. Get to the hospital. Now." My rare Rh-negative blood was the only thing the Brown family valued. Bart didn't want a wife; he wanted a walking blood bank for his "sick" best friend, Crysta. While I was fainting from chronic anemia, Crysta was smirking in her hospital bed, clutching Bart's hand and mocking my "peasant" lifestyle. Even his mother treated me like a servant, demanding I vacuum the floors after I'd already offered my veins for the hundredth time. When I finally reached my breaking point and signed the divorce papers, they didn't let me go quietly. They filed a false police report, accusing me of stealing a multi-million dollar diamond necklace just to watch me crawl. I didn't understand how a family could be so heartless. I had cooked their meals, cleaned their house, and literally bled for them, yet they were determined to ruin my life the moment I stopped being useful. Did they really think I was a nobody with nowhere to go? Standing outside the hospital with a bruised wrist and nothing to my name, I didn't cry. I simply took off my cheap wedding ring and dialed a secure line I hadn't touched since the day I married him. "It's me, Dad," I whispered as a fleet of black Maybachs rounded the corner. "The extraction is a go. I'm coming home."
