Sera Nightshade was supposed to become Luna of the most powerful pack in North America. Instead, she watched her fated mate, Alpha Kael Blackwood, reject her in front of three hundred wolves—and announce his engagement to her stepsister, Vanessa. What no one knew: Sera was carrying Kael's pup. And she'd rather die than let her child grow up in a pack that saw her as worthless. Five years later, Dr. Sera Nightshade returns—not as a broken omega, but as the Royal Pack's most celebrated surgeon and the secret weapon of the mysterious Crescent Court. Her wolf, once shattered, has evolved into something ancient and terrifying. Her daughter, Lily, carries a bloodline that could reshape the werewolf hierarchy. When a mysterious illness begins killing Alphas across the continent—including Kael—Sera is summoned to save the very man who destroyed her. But saving him means facing everything she buried: the betrayal, the bond that never fully broke, and a conspiracy that goes far deeper than a rejected mate. The Moon Goddess chose them for each other. He threw that gift away. Now she'll make him watch as she rises—and decide if he's worth saving at all. "You rejected me once, Alpha. This time, I reject you."

The Alpha's Rejected Surgeon Chapter 1

Five years. Five years of waiting, of believing in promises whispered in the dark corners of the pack house. Five years of telling myself that patience would be rewarded, that my time would come.

Tonight was supposed to be that time.

I stood at the edge of the ceremonial circle, my hands trembling as I smoothed down the white dress I'd chosen so carefully. The fabric felt like silk against my skin, but my wolf was restless beneath the surface, pacing and whining with anticipation. Around me, the entire Blackwood Pack had gathered under the full moon, their faces illuminated by flickering torches that cast dancing shadows across the clearing.

I could smell him before I saw him—that intoxicating blend of cedar and storm that had haunted my dreams since I was eighteen. My wolf recognized her mate instantly, just as she had that first night when I'd stumbled into his path, young and naive and completely unprepared for the way his scent would brand itself into my very soul.

"Wait for me," he'd said then, his voice rough with something I'd mistaken for desire. "Let me handle the pack's affairs first. Then you'll have your place beside me."

Five years of waiting. Five years of being the Alpha's secret, hidden away while he dealt with politics and power struggles. Five years of believing that tonight, finally, I would stand beside Kael Blackwood as his Luna.

The crowd shifted, and there he was.

Kael emerged from the pack house, and my breath caught in my throat. He commanded attention without effort—tall and broad-shouldered, his dark hair catching the moonlight, his presence filling the space around him like gravity. His eyes, those storm-gray eyes that had looked at me with such intensity all those years ago, swept across the gathered pack members.

My heart hammered against my ribs as he began walking toward the crowd. This was it. This was the moment I'd dreamed about, planned for, lived for. My wolf surged forward, eager to finally claim what was ours.

Kael's steps were measured, purposeful. I straightened my shoulders, lifted my chin, tried to look worthy of standing beside an Alpha. The pack members parted before him like water, creating a clear path.

A clear path that led directly past me.

I blinked, confusion flooding through me as he walked by without so much as a glance in my direction. My wolf whimpered, pressing against my consciousness with bewildered hurt. This had to be part of the ceremony, some formal protocol I didn't understand. Maybe he had to address the pack first, make some official announcement before—

"Pack members of Blackwood Territory," Kael's voice rang out, strong and commanding. "Tonight, I stand before you to make a declaration that will shape our future."

I held my breath, my pulse racing with anticipation.

"I, Alpha Kael Blackwood, reject Sera Nightshade as my mate."

The words hit me like a physical blow. The entire clearing fell into absolute silence—no rustle of leaves, no whispered conversations, not even the sound of breathing. Just those words, hanging in the air like a death sentence.

Rejected.

The mate bond, that golden thread that had connected us for five years, began to fray. I could feel it unraveling, each strand snapping with a pain so intense I couldn't breathe. My knees buckled, but I forced myself to stay upright, my nails digging into my palms hard enough to draw blood.

"And," Kael continued, his voice carrying easily across the stunned crowd, "I claim Vanessa Nightshade as my chosen Luna."

Vanessa. My stepsister stepped forward from where she'd been standing with the other pack members, her golden hair gleaming in the torchlight, her lips curved in a smile that didn't reach her eyes. She moved with practiced grace, every step calculated to draw attention to her perfect figure, her confident bearing.

The mate bond snapped completely.

I screamed—or tried to. The sound that escaped my throat was more animal than human, a keening wail that spoke of agony beyond words. The pain was unlike anything I'd ever experienced, as if someone had reached into my chest and torn my heart out with their bare hands. I collapsed to my knees, my hands clutching at my chest, trying to hold the pieces of myself together.

No one moved to help me. No one even looked in my direction.

All eyes were on Vanessa as she glided toward Kael, her chin held high, her smile growing wider with each step. When she reached him, she placed her hand on his outstretched arm with the kind of easy familiarity that spoke of practice, of planning.

Of betrayal.

"Did you really think an Omega could be Luna?" Vanessa's voice was sweet as honey, but her words were poison. She had turned slightly, just enough that her voice would carry to where I knelt in the dirt. "Did you honestly believe Kael would choose someone like you over someone like me?"

I looked up at her through tears I hadn't realized I was shedding. Vanessa's blue eyes sparkled with triumph, with a satisfaction so complete it made my stomach turn. This wasn't surprise—this was victory. She had known. She had planned this.

They both had.

From somewhere in the crowd, I heard my stepmother's soft laugh, barely audible but unmistakably pleased. Patricia Nightshade had gotten exactly what she wanted—her biological daughter elevated to Luna, while the stepdaughter she'd never wanted was publicly humiliated and cast aside.

The whispers started then, rippling through the crowd like wildfire.

"I always wondered why he kept her around..."

"An Omega Luna? What was she thinking?"

"Poor thing. She really believed..."

"Vanessa is so much more suitable..."

Some voices held mockery, others pity, but none held surprise. They had all known. Everyone except me had seen this coming.

I tried to stand, my legs shaking with the effort. The physical pain of the broken bond was beginning to ebb, replaced by something worse—a hollow emptiness where my wolf used to be, where my future used to live. I felt... nothing. Empty. Broken.

Two pack guards appeared beside me, their faces carefully neutral. They didn't speak as they hauled me to my feet, their grip firm but not gentle. I didn't resist as they began to drag me away from the ceremony, away from the pack, away from everything I had ever known.

As they pulled me toward the edge of our territory, I turned back for one last look. Just one.

Kael was watching me.

For just a moment, his carefully controlled expression slipped. I saw something flicker across his features—pain? Regret? Or was it just my imagination, my desperate heart creating hope where none existed?

Then his face went blank again, and he turned away.

The guards shoved me across the territory line, and I stumbled, falling to my hands and knees in the dirt beyond our lands. Behind me, I could hear the ceremony continuing, hear Vanessa's delighted laughter as she accepted her new role.

I pressed my hand to my stomach, feeling the barely perceptible curve there that no one else would notice yet.

Three weeks. I had been pregnant for three weeks.

And I would rather die than let him know.

The champagne in my glass was vintage Dom Pérignon, crisp and biting against my tongue, but the air in the ballroom tasted stale. It was the specific staleness of old money and desperate ambition mixing under the heat of a thousand crystal chandeliers. The Starlight Charity Gala was in full swing, a sea of black tuxedos and designer gowns swirling through the cavernous hall of the Pierre Hotel. I stood near the periphery, away from the frenetic energy of the dance floor. My fingers idly traced the rim of the flute. I wasn't hiding, exactly. I was observing. Three years ago, crowds like this would have made my heart hammer against my ribs like a trapped bird. Now, I just felt a quiet, observant calm. I adjusted the silk of my gown—a deep midnight blue that Adrian had selected because he said it matched the quiet storm in my eyes.

The morning light filtered through our penthouse windows, casting golden patterns across the Egyptian cotton sheets. I stirred slowly, consciousness returning in gentle waves. Seven years. Seven years of what I believed was perfect love. "Happy anniversary, my only one," Gabriel's voice caressed my ear as he entered our bedroom, a silver breakfast tray balanced in his hands. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, giving him that boyish charm that still made my heart flutter. "You didn't have to," I murmured, sitting up against the headboard as the scent of fresh croissants and coffee filled the air. "For you, I want to do everything." He set the tray down and sat beside me, his fingers brushing mine as he handed me a steaming cup. No redness appeared on his skin, no hives, no shortness of breath—just the miracle of his touch, reserved only for me. The condition that had brought us together.
Luna Rejects Cheating Mate Novel Cover

I smoothed down the front of my traditional Luna ceremonial dress, the silver embroidery catching the light as I moved. Three years. Three perfect years with my mate, and tonight I wanted everything to be perfect. "Do you think he'll like the surprise?" I asked my reflection, adjusting the moonstone pendant that had been my mother's. It was the last thing she'd given me before passing, and I wore it only on special occasions. My wolf, Aria, purred with satisfaction. *He'll love it. You've prepared his favorite meal.* I glanced at the dining room table, set with our finest china and candles. The roast was resting, vegetables steaming, and a bottle of aged red wine—Tyson's favorite—hidden in the car for the final touch. "He should be home any minute," I murmured, checking my phone.
