Chapter 1

Kierra POV:

"To my beautiful fiancée, Kierra, and to the future we're about to build together!"

George Thornton, my handsome, perfect fiancé, raised his champagne flute. The low lights of The Onyx Lounge glinted in his blue eyes, capturing everyone's attention. Our friends erupted in a cheer.

He leaned in, his warm breath a soft caress against my ear. "I can't wait, baby."

A smile bloomed on my face, and I tilted my head to kiss him back. The sweet anticipation of our wedding filled my chest, a warmth spreading through my veins. I leaned into his embrace, feeling the solid strength of his arms around me. I was the luckiest woman in the world.

The music, the laughter, the chorus of congratulations—it all wove together into a perfect tapestry of my life.

I pulled out my phone, wanting to capture this perfect moment, to immortalize George's charming smile.

Just as I aimed the camera, the screen lit up. A text from an unknown number. The preview was just a few words: "Are you sure you want to marry him?"

My brow furrowed. I tapped the message open.

There were no more words. Just a video file. An inexplicable knot formed in my stomach, a cold dread seeping into my bones.

Slipping a wireless earbud into my ear, I pressed play.

The video started. I knew the location instantly. It was our apartment-the one we'd just bought for our married life. The custom-made king-size bed dominated the frame.

The camera shifted, and then I saw him. George. His bare back, the muscles flexing, and the blonde woman beneath him. Amber Reed. I knew her. An acquaintance from our circle.

Their grunts and moans filled my ear, each sound a physical blow. The blood in my veins turned to ice. All the strength drained from my body, leaving me hollow.

My friend, Sarah, noticed my change in demeanor. "Kierra, what's wrong? You look pale."

Her voice was quiet, but it was enough to draw the attention of those nearby.

George turned, his face a mask of perfect concern. "What is it, honey? Are you not feeling well?"

His flawless acting was so bitterly ironic it made me want to laugh.

I took a deep breath, forcing down the nausea and the feeling of being torn apart. I didn't scream. I didn't cry.

I lifted my head, met his concerned gaze, and offered him a perfectly calm smile.

He looked unsettled by my expression. He reached to touch my face, but I subtly leaned away.

I pulled the earbud out and turned my phone's volume to a moderate level.

"George," I said, my voice cutting through his laughter with a friend. "I want to show you something."

He looked at me, confused. I turned the screen toward him and hit replay.

The video began again. Amber's sultry voice filled the small space between us. "Your fiancée is so useless, she can't even satisfy you."

The smile on George's face froze. The color drained from his cheeks in three seconds flat, replaced by a blast of horror and disbelief in his blue eyes.

He lunged for my phone. I stepped back, easily dodging him.

The music seemed to die. The chatter stopped. Every single person was staring at us.

I looked at George's ashen face.

"Explain," I said, my voice level and clear enough for everyone to hear.

"Kierra, no, it's not what you think... it's a misunderstanding!" he stammered, his eyes darting around wildly.

A cold laugh escaped my lips. I put my phone away, not wanting to look at the filthy screen for another second.

Slowly, deliberately, I pulled the expensive diamond engagement ring from my left ring finger. Its sparkle, once a symbol of my happiness, now just felt sharp and blinding.

I placed it on the bar. The crisp clink echoed in the sudden silence.

"George Thornton," I said, looking directly into his panicked eyes. My voice wasn't loud, but it was absolute. "We're done."

I didn't give him a chance to reply. I turned and walked away, leaving him to stand alone in the crossfire of our friends' pity, disgust, and shock.

I could feel the dead silence behind me, feel the complete and utter destruction of his perfect social image.

The cold night air hit my face as I stepped out of the bar. Only then did I feel the sting of moisture in my eyes, but I refused to let the tears fall.
