Chapter 4

Just then, my mother, Florence Hales, arrived. She pushed Ted aside and bellowed, "Go away! Get out of here!"

Ted ignored her and asked me in a trembling voice, "Where is our child, Nina?"

I looked at him with a stoic expression and replied, "All that's left of the child is these ashes. Why can't you just let him go in peace?"

He widened his eyes and looked at our surroundings. There was no mistaking that this was a funeral.

Ted held my shoulders and said angrily, "I merely spent the night out with my friends and failed to come home. Why do you have to hide our child and lie to me?"

Suzy glanced at the ashes on the floor, looking disgusted, and grabbed Ted by the arm. "I told you not to underestimate a woman's jealousy. You didn't believe me, right? Today, she hides the child from you, and tomorrow she will threaten you with divorce."

Seeing his lack of response, Suzy tugged his arm impatiently and continued, "Hey, brat! You promised to go bungee jumping with me after attending this pathetic anniversary celebration.

"Hurry up! The tickets are already paid for. Don't let this woman change your mind!"

Bungee jumping? I remembered I had begged Ted to go with me. However, he always refused because of his fear of heights. And yet, he agreed to go bungee jumping with another woman on our wedding anniversary.

I stared at him and said, "Ted, let's get a divorce."

He froze for a moment, then shook his head in disbelief. "Divorce? You've given birth to my child. Why are you asking for a divorce?

"Suzy was right. You used divorce as a threat against me."

Ted took out his phone and continued, "I get it. You're upset I didn't send you money on time to prove my love, right? I'll do it now."

When he saw the failed notification, his face darkened. "You blocked me?"

It was hilarious. A night had passed, and now only did he notice. He knew my stomach was unwell before he left, and still, he hadn't checked on me even once.

Never mind. I didn't care anymore.

I turned away from Ted, knelt down, and scooped the ashes back into the urn.

Seeing how pitiful I was, Florence could no longer hold back. "Ted Cohen, you're such a disappointment. The baby stopped breathing when Nina was admitted to the hospital yesterday.

"You were out drinking with your mistress. Are you even human?"

Ted shoved Florence and retorted, "What do you mean? Suzy and I are friends. She's not my mistress."

He turned to Larissa and continued, "Quit fooling around. You're a doctor. Where's my child?"

Larissa threw the child's death certificate at his face and hissed, "Have a good look at this!"

Suzy snatched the report and tore it to pieces. "Hey, brat. Maybe Nina was so jealous that she went for an abortion. She and Larissa are so close. They could be lying to you! You're too kind and easily deceived."

Ted didn't dare to see the report and tried to calm himself down. "That's right. This is all a lie. Nina, I told you that Suzy and I are just friends.

"Why won't you believe me? Why is there a lack of trust between us? It's our wedding anniversary today. Why do you have to ruin the day over something so trivial?"

I scoffed and replied, "I prepared a divorce gift for you since you were going to show up."

Suddenly, the video of him applying sunscreen for Suzy played on the large screen.
