Chapter 6

The airplane hummed gently beneath Celeste's feet, but her heart pounded in her chest with every mile closer to home. She stared out the window, watching the clouds drift below like a soft, endless ocean.

Five years.

Five years since she last touched the soil of the place she once called home.

Five years since she fled heartbreak, humiliation, loneliness, and betrayal.

Five years since she ran from the night that changed her life forever.

Her children were asleep in their seats-Sophia curled against her, Ethan clutching his little backpack, Nathaniel with his face buried in a book, and Caleb sitting upright like a young king surveying his kingdom.

She brushed her fingers through Sophia's hair, breathing out softly.

"Please let this go well," she whispered to herself.

She wasn't ready to face her past.

She wasn't ready to face the people who had broken her spirit.

And she definitely wasn't ready to face him.

Damien Kane.

His name sent heat through her body-heat mixed with pain and fear and... something she didn't dare define.

Celeste had sworn she would never return.

But when the biggest fashion company in her home country offered her a partnership-and when she realized it could open doors she needed for her children-she knew she had no choice.

She needed to build a future for them.

Even if it meant walking back into the very city she had once escaped.

---

When the plane landed, Caleb was the first to open his eyes.

"We're here," he announced solemnly.

Sophia stretched like a tiny lioness. "I want food."

Ethan peered through the window. "Everything looks different."

Nathaniel closed his book slowly. "Mama... are you scared?"

Celeste hesitated.

Her children watched her with their sharp, knowing eyes.

"A little," she admitted.

Sophia wrapped her arms around Celeste's waist immediately. "Don't worry, Mama. I'll protect you."

Ethan nodded vigorously. "Me too. I can hack people!"

Nathaniel raised his hand. "And I can heal everyone."

Caleb placed his small palm gently over Celeste's hand. "You protect us. Now it's our turn."

Tears filled her eyes. "Oh, my loves... you're all I need."

But fate had other plans.

---

Outside the airport, the city pulsed with life-cars honked, people rushed past, lights flashed, and the tall buildings scraped the sky. The air smelled of heat, engines, and a faint hint of rain.

Celeste inhaled deeply.

Memories hit her all at once:

The night her mother died.

The nights her family tormented her.

The night she met Damien.

The night she flew away.

She swallowed hard.

"No turning back," she whispered.

A limousine pulled up-sent by the fashion company that had hired her. The driver stepped out and bowed.

"Miss Hart, welcome home."

Her children stared wide-eyed at the luxurious car.

"Mama," Ethan whispered, "are you famous?"

Celeste chuckled. "Something like that, sweetheart."

They climbed inside. The seats were soft and cool, the city blurring past them as they drove toward the penthouse reserved for her.

But the closer they got to the city center, the more Celeste felt a strange tightening in her chest.

As if someone else was thinking of her at the same moment.

---

Miles away, in an airport across the continent, Damien Kane stormed through the terminal, heading for his private jet. His assistant ran behind him.

"Sir, please-slow down! The pilot needs ten minutes!"

Damien didn't listen.

His entire body buzzed with adrenaline.

Because for the first time in five years... he had a real lead.

A real chance.

A real hope.

"She's alive," he muttered under his breath. "I'm coming for you."

He climbed the stairs of the jet, ready to tear apart the world again in his search.

But destiny-always one step ahead-had already shifted course.

Because Damien Kane was flying away...

...just as Celeste Hart had returned home.

---

The limousine reached the penthouse-a luxurious residence with glass walls, polished marble floors, and a breathtaking view of the entire city.

The children stepped out, their eyes widening.

Sophia ran in circles. "Mama! Mama! Look! It's huge!"

Ethan lay on the marble floor. "It feels expensive."

Nathaniel examined a decorative glass sculpture. "This looks fragile. Mama, can I not touch anything in this house?"

Celeste laughed softly. "Yes, no touching."

Caleb, however, walked straight to the window, staring at a skyscraper glowing in the distance-the tallest, most powerful building in the city.

Kane Tower.

He felt something... strange.

A pull.

A spark.

A recognition he couldn't explain.

"That building..." he whispered. "It feels... familiar."

Celeste froze.

Her throat tightened.

Kane Tower was Damien's headquarters.

Was it possible...?

Did her son-so young, so gifted-somehow sense the blood that tied him to that place?

She placed a hand on Caleb's shoulder.

His little body stiffened.

"You alright?" she whispered.

Caleb nodded with a seriousness far beyond his age.

"I think... our answers are in that building."

Celeste's breath hitched.

She knew what he meant.

And she feared it more than anything.

---

That night, after the children fell asleep in their new rooms, Celeste stood alone on the balcony, staring at the skyline.

A breeze brushed her hair.

Lights twinkled like stars.

And in the distance, Kane Tower glowed like a beacon.

Her heart ached.

"Damien," she whispered to the wind. "Why couldn't our lives be simple?"

Tears slid down her cheeks.

She wasn't ready.

Not to see him.

Not to face the man who changed her life with a single night.

Not to reveal the truth she had kept hidden from the world-and from him.

Four truths.

Four miracles.

Four little souls who carried his blood.

But she would soon have no choice.

Because destiny was already working.

And the man she loved and feared...

...the man she ran from...

...the richest, most powerful man in the world...

...was only days away from discovering that everything he had ever searched for...

...was already home.

And she could feel it.

The storm was coming.
