Chapter 2

Kali POV

As time passed,I stopped keeping tabs on how long I remained imprisoned in the dungeons. What was the use? It seemed like I wasn't going to leave the place alive anyway.

Maybe days had passed, or even a few weeks or probably a month, I didn't care anymore.

Pain became a constant companion, the only thing that still reminded me that I was alive.

The pain of getting whipped daily and the rejection weighed down heavily on me.

My wolf was nowhere to be felt. She never gave any response no matter how much I called.

I could also not feel her anymore. It's like she was gone, dead. That would not have surprised me. For an omega wolf like her,the pain, the silver, the wolfsbane...it was too much. Even for a strong warrior wolf.

Sometimes,I would wonder what would have happened to us if I didn't insist on staying?

When she proposed for us to leave, should I have listened to her? Would she still be around with me?

But then I thought about the rogues outside the pack borders. Would we have survived their hunt or would we have ended up in a more miserable situation? Maybe even die?

With those thoughts plaguing my mind ,the only thing I could do was close my eyes and cry myself to sleep every night after torture.

After what felt like eternity, Luca decided to visit me.

" I have to admit, you are one tough nut to crack,Kali." He said, pinning his hateful gaze at me.

" Do I take that as a compliment?" I asked weakly. Luca smirked then kneeled before me, his nose scrunched up.

" Take it however you want but I have to admit, every scream that left your mouth was like music to my ears. Katya's soul must be resting in peace seeing your miserable life now." Luca mocked.

His words felt like sharp needles being driven straight to my heart.

" Are you satisfied now?" I asked, lifting my eyes defiantly to meet his.

My actions angered Luca and he slapped me across the face. He didn't bother to control his Alpha strength.I tasted blood in my mouth, probably from a busted lip.

" Only by seeing you dead can I be satisfied." Luca screamed, hate clearly written on his face. I chuckled, bitterly.

" You want me dead but you can't do it. You are afraid because it's forbidden for a werewolf to kill their mate?" This time,it was my turn to mock him.

That has always been a rule in our werewolf community. Whether chosen or fated,no one was allowed to end their mate's life or there would be serious consequences.

" Shut up!" Luca growled, his eyes flickering red. He was fighting to control his wolf. My words triggered him, meaning I was right.

I let out a loud, dry and mocking laugh.

" Who would have thought that the mighty Alpha Luca was afraid of retribution."

Luca struggled to school his emotions and he finally succeeded.

He straightened up and looked down at me.

" I don't want to engage in a meaningless conversation with you. I am setting you free. Go away. Leave from here and never set your foot on my pack or I won't hesitate to kill you, retribution or not." He ordered and started walking away without sparing me another glance.

I chuckled. " I guess I should thank you for your charity then. Mark my words though, one day,I'll make you regret not killing me today." I shouted from behind him.

Luca ignored my words, not in the least fazed by my ' empty threats ' according to him.

With the door left ajar, I made my way out.Without chains to restrict my movements,I limped out, heading to a certain direction. I had one last thing to do before leaving the place for good.

Every step I took was filled with pain and accompanied by disdainful looks from pack members and their whispers of hate. I didn't mind them though. Why would I when they never believed me?

There was a time they would scramble to carry favor with me because of my ties with Katya. Now, they hated and loathed my very existence.

After what felt like forever,I arrived at the place Katya and I loved to visit. An open playground,a place she dreamt of erecting a female pack school. Now, that dream was gone.

Walking to our favourite spot,I kneeled and paid my respect.

" I'll be strong and powerful someday, Katya. I'll avenge your death."

After lingering longer than necessary,I turned around and walked towards the opposite direction of the pack house.

I was no longer part of the moon lake pack. Now,I was reduced to what I feared the most: a rogue.

Despite the pain and the exhaustion that threatened to break me,I pushed forward. I knew the more distance I put between me and Luca, the better.

When the sun finally started retreating,I was too worn out to continue walking. Hunger and exhaustion were already wearing me out so I decided to rest for the night and continue the following day.

I didn't know where I was, only that I was far away from Luca and his madness.

My stomach growled in hunger. Desperate to survive,I decided to look around the woods and find anything edible.

The sound of running water made me smile as I followed the direction of the sound. However, before I could celebrate,I heard it; a growl so ferocious that it chilled my blood.

I didn't need to turn around to know that I just encountered a rogue. The stench of charred skin was enough to confirm what I was facing.

Fear filled my eyes as I watched the beast approach, fangs bared and eyes so menacing they could send me fainting.

The sound of bones snapping filled the air as the beast shifted. I took a step back, fight and flight kicking in. Then I realised,I could do none of those, not in my current state.

He approached me,a leering look on his face.

" What is a beautiful young maiden doing in the woods all alone?" He asked, stepping closer.

" Stay away or I'll kill you." I mustered the courage to say. However, the pervert didn't look so convinced by my pathetic threat.

" Don't worry,I'll take good care of you. I'm going to enjoy fucking you." He declared shamelessly as he inched closer.

I stumbled and fell, making the man grin with malice.

" Are you sure about that? Because I can bet I am going to enjoy killing you." A voice so deep and powerful resonated through the woods.

My eyes searched for the owner and I came into contact with a pair of dark orbs resembling a bottomless abyss.

Then I heard it,a faint whisper in my head.

" Mate."
