Chapter 2

Cassie POV

( Three months later ).

"Doctor, tell me what's going on?" My voice felt shaky. My whole body is not resting.

A few days ago, my daughter collapsed and since then, I haven't gotten the chance to see her or even know what was wrong with her.

What the doctor just tells me is that she's terminally ill and her lifespan is on the short side.

"Madam, I know you are a mother, but please calm down."

I let out a little laugh, a laugh filled with pain. I then looked back at the doctor and said, "Two days here and I don't know what's wrong with her. You guys just keep telling me one word, she's terminally ill and her lifespan is short. I need to know the major sickness. Yes, I know she has cancer but tell me what I need to hear."

He lifted his head and looked at me. From his expression, I think fear creeped in. "Madam" , he said, "your daughter has a fifth stage leukemia. Only a matching bone marrow or blood can help her now. " he paused for a split second, while I tried everything out to digest his words "we tried everything under our best possible, but the money you gave us is almost running out. That's all that could save her now, madam. "

Tears sprinkled at the corners of my eyes. Not Amanda, not this time around. She has been a fighter for close to ten years. Why now? I spent almost every dime I have on me each day just to help her overcome this pace of life.

"Doctor, what can we do?" I asked but it didn't make my voice shake. My voice was firm and strong.

"We need a matching blood as soon as possible."

Without double thoughts, I offered myself for the blood transfusion. Going to the lab, my mind was heavy, my chest was filled with tears and pain. I walked in there with just one exception, to save my daughter's life at all costs. My blood was tested and it was found negative. I was not sure about my daughter. And this only says that my ex-husband matches with that of my daughter.

"Your blood doesn't match madam. Where is your husband?" Those questions from the doctor brought back the past feelings, brought back the divorce pain I felt, brought back the betrayal.

I looked at him as the words rolled of my tongue "I'm a divorcee. My husband left me for another woman due to my daughter's health condition." The doctor gave a pitiful expression.

"Sorry ma'am about that, but now we don't have any matching blood with that of your child in the hospital." My face turned pale as he said the words.

"Who can you plead to donate the blood to your daughter?" The question stung in my chest. I knew no one. Nobody knew me to give me such an offer.

Then I smiled and looked at him. "I don't really know what to do."

He then looked at me for a split second, "Madam, you have to do something as soon as possible." Without another word, he left me standing in the lab all alone.

I walked out of the lab with tears dripping down from my eyes. My emotions now were strong and heavy. Tears clouded over my eyes nonstop. Then for a split second, a thought came into my mind. Call Alexandra and plead for favor. I immediately brought out my phone, searched for his number and got it as soon as I could. I dialed it without double thoughts. It rang once and then he picked. I said, "Hello Alex!"

A lot of laughing sounds came from the other end. It might be his mistress, because it didn't sound much like his voice. Then he said, "Why are you calling me?" I just smiled from my own end and replied without hesitation, "Please, we need you as soon as possible. Amanda is about to die and only you can save her. Only your blood can save her"

He laughed at my words, this time not only his mistress but him. I felt embarrassed and disgraced but there was nothing else I could do. I still had a better reply from him.

"You haven't gotten rid of that imbecile of a child yet." I just replied with the same attitude he offered.

"If she dies, Alexandra, she would regret."

He laughed again, this time louder than before. "You have always been threatening me with those same words of yours: regret, regret, regret." He laughed once more. "Cassie, I'm not regretting anything. You are just poor. You are poor and nothing without me!"

I did reply to his words and before cutting off the phone, I cried my eyes out. Pain filled my whole veins. Now, I'm about to lose my daughter, and the only person who could save her just abandoned me and took me as a fool.

The doctor approached me with a pitiful face. I stood up from where I was sitting and walked closer to him and asked, "Doctor, what is happening?" My voice was sharp.

He nodded negatively at my words and said, "Sorry, we lost your daughter." At this time, I wished the ground would split open and swallow me.

Everything I've ever suffered for has died, everything I always cried for has left me hanging.

I wanted to scream my lungs out. I wanted to cry like a newborn. I wanted to shed those tears that have been aching within. But none came. I just felt numb. I felt dumb. I felt like a fool. I paced back and forth, trying not to digest the words and believing the words he said to me was a lie. But it didn't feel like one. The doctor walked away from my side.

I collapsed onto the floor And said it on every heart, Alexandra, you shall regret this day.
