Chapter 3

Cassie POV

My chest ached. My heart was strong as tears streamed down my eyes. I slowly touched my daughter's cold hands. I couldn't believe this was finally happening. My ten year old, dying right before my eyes. I couldn't control my emotions anymore. The tears kept streaming down my eyes, faster than I could even control. I just went on to scream my lungs out. I wanted to shout her name so she could come back to me. The nurses came behind, dragging me away from her. But I cried harder.

"Alexandra, you shall pay for this pain you caused me!" I curse under my breath.

Now, no daughter, no husband, no mother, no father. Just me alone in this world. I never expected things to escalate this fast. Just three months ago, I left a marriage I suffered for. And just a few hours ago, I lost my daughter, the one who made me happy.

I picked myself up after telling the nurses to put my daughter in the morgue. I walked out the hospital gates, my chest heaving, but this time there weren't tears hanging under my eyes, just a woman in this lonely and evil world. I walked down into the streets, chest racing, but I didn't know where else to go. I didn't know where to stay now. I spent almost everything on me. I sold my house for my daughter's treatment. Now I'm alone in this empty world.

Each step I took in the lonely streets just reminds me of pain and betrayal. I walked alone, the night lights sweeping over the city walls. No one was there, not even a shadow was there.

Soon, I saw a large and flashy beam of light towards me, the kind of light that almost sent me blind. I collapsed onto the floor and boom, everywhere turned black.

"Mommy!" The place was just filled with lots of beautiful flowers, and my daughter was close to me in a white dress but this time looking older than before. She smiled at me. I stretched my hands trying to grab her. A smile filled my face.

"Amanda, come to mommy." Her drained of color with my words.

" I'm safe here, mother. Don't you come looking for me."

She started vanishing like smoke. I screamed out in my highest tone, Amanda no! But she vanished, I collapsed onto the ground, crying out my soul and body. My whole body was drained with pain. My whole body was drained with betrayal. This wasn't happening to me, not again. I thought I was finally going to see her one more time, but it all felt like a dream.

Soon, what I could hear was only the loud beep of machines.

My chest rises and falls. The loud beeps of the machine grab my attention. A lady walked up to me. "Are you okay, miss?" I looked at her slowly.

My chest is heavy. I couldn't describe where I was. I couldn't remember anything. My mind felt blank, just like a white sheet of paper.

I looked around, fear gripped my soul. The last thing I could remember was the large beam of lights affixed on my eye and then I blacked out. Not where was I? My hands kept scanning around to recognize this place. It's a hospital. What's that doing in a hospital?

"Hello, madam." The lady in white looked more like a nurse, I looked into her eyes calmly.

Where am I? I asked. She gave a blunt smile.

"You have been here for days now and you have been in a coma. So, I really don't expect you to remember much."

I couldn't believe her words at first. I have been here for days, sounds so unreal to my ears.

I just laid still, mind racing. I was involved in an accident? How was that even possible? Fear filled my whole soul and body.

She walked out after a few minutes. I lay there, my eyes scanning the ceiling. My head felt really heavy. There was this kind of pressure that laid on my chest that I haven't felt in a very long time. Soon, I heard a voice.

I looked towards the door. A man on black chinos trousers with a black jacket walked closer. His aura filled the whole room. His skin appearance sent chills down my spine. His broad chest, his muscled filled arms, his brown glistening eyes, the veins on his arms, his skin tone, everything sent chills down my spine. His appearance was over the moon.

"How are you doing?" I almost collapsed. He has this thick masculine voice.

"I'm doing quite well. I still have to work out." I composed myself even though my lips moved before my brain sent a signal.

He walked closer, sitting close to my head. His hands held mine.

" I'm sorry, I was drunk that night," he said.

Killing me that night would have been better. It should have saved me from the stress of remembering the past. It should've saved me from remembering my daughter, the way she died and the way I left a ten-year-old marriage.

I looked him directly into his eyes. He seemed very calm and more like a good person to me.

"There isn't any problem with that. At least, I'm alive." I lied even though I wished to be dead at this moment of my life.

Everything happened faster than how it is usually written in a novel. A few hours or days ago I was dreaming about my daughter and now I'm in the land of the living with this man close to me. The man who claims to be the one that almost took my life.

The man immediately gave me a smile in acknowledgement of the words. Then he stood up-almost immediately.

"Your treatment is over so can I take you back to your house?."

Then it dawned on me, I have nowhere to go from here. I was living in my own shadows already, no house, no family, nothing was left of me.

I slowly brought my head down in embarrassment, but I seem to notice it.

"What's wrong?" He asked one more time.

"I have nowhere to go, I have no house, I have no family, I have nothing left of myself." I confessed the words.

He cleared his throat almost immediately. "You can come with me, I have enough space to share!" A smile immediately spread through my pale face.

This was a gracious blessing.

I managed to stand and gave him a hug.

"Thanks alot."

He smiled.

"Let's go then."
