"Miss George," Marcus said quietly, his voice thick with reluctance. "Alpha's orders. You're to gather your belongings and move to the basement quarters immediately."

"This is my home," I whispered, looking around the room that held three years of memories. The bed where Myles had held me through nightmares about my parents' deaths. "Not anymore," Joel said, though he had the decency to look ashamed. "Diana Carter will be moving in tonight. Alpha wants you out within the hour."

Silver whimpered in my mind, a sound of pure anguish that made my knees buckle. I gripped the doorframe to keep from collapsing as the full weight of my new reality crashed over me. In the span of a single conversation, I had gone from future Luna to displaced pack member, from cherished mate to inconvenient reminder of a bond Myles no longer wanted.

The guards waited in uncomfortable silence as I mechanically gathered my few possessions. My hands shook as I carefully wrapped my parents' photographs, the glass frames reflecting my tear-streaked face.
