Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King

The lanterns cast a golden glow across the Moonridge Pack's full-moon festival, transforming the stone terrace into something magical. I stood at the edge of the celebration, my fingers nervously tugging at the sleeves of my dress—a habit I couldn't break even after nine years of attending these gatherings. As a wolfless omega from the Silverstone Pack, I was used to being invisible, especially to the one person whose attention I craved most. Nathan Cross. He moved through the crowd with effortless grace, his powerful Alpha aura making pack members step aside instinctively. My heart stuttered as it always did when I saw him. Nine years of devotion, of rearranging my entire life to orbit around his, and still the sight of him made my knees weak. "You're staring again," a voice murmured beside me. Liam Carter, my childhood friend from Silverstone, handed me a glass of punch. "One day your eyes are going to get stuck that way." I accepted the drink with a small smile.

Chapter 1

"One day your eyes are going to get stuck that way."

I accepted the drink with a small smile. "I can't help it."

"You could try," he sighed, his concern evident. "There are other wolves who would—"

The words died on his lips as something unprecedented happened. Nathan, who had never acknowledged me at these gatherings, was walking directly toward me. The crowd parted, conversations hushing as curious eyes followed his movement.

"Natalie," he said, my name sounding like silk on his tongue.

I couldn't breathe. "Alpha Nathan."

"Nine years," he said, his voice carrying just enough for those nearby to hear. "Nine years you've waited for me, haven't you?"

I nodded, unable to form words as he stepped closer, the scent of pine and power enveloping me.

"Such devotion deserves recognition," he continued, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from my face. His touch sent electricity through me. "I've been blind not to see what was right in front of me all this time."

The terrace had gone completely silent. Even Liam stood frozen beside me, his mouth slightly open in shock.

"Tomorrow," Nathan said, his eyes never leaving mine, "I'd like you to join me for a private gathering. Just a few trusted members of my inner circle. It's time I got to know the woman who has been so... persistent."

Before I could respond, he leaned forward and pressed his lips gently against my cheek. The kiss was brief, but it might as well have been a branding iron for the heat it left behind.

"Until tomorrow, little omega," he whispered, then turned and walked away, leaving me trembling in his wake.

The crowd erupted into whispers. I caught fragments of shocked conversations—"The wolfless omega?" "After all this time?" "What is he thinking?"

But I didn't care. Nine years of hope had finally bloomed into something real. I pressed my hand to my cheek, preserving the warmth of his kiss.

Later that night, I couldn't sleep. I paced my small apartment at the edge of Moonridge territory, replaying the moment over and over. I'd written about this in my journal so many times—fantasies of Nathan finally seeing me, wanting me despite my wolfless status.

At dawn, I made a decision. I would leave him a note, a small token of appreciation before our evening meeting. Something to show him that his gesture meant everything to me.

The Moonridge Pack house was quiet as I slipped through the halls toward Nathan's private quarters. As a frequent visitor to the pack, I knew the layout well enough to avoid the early-rising pack members.

I hesitated at his door, my heart racing. This was forbidden territory—the private domain of a future Alpha. But the memory of his kiss gave me courage. I would just leave the note on his desk and slip away.

The door wasn't fully latched. It swung open at my touch, revealing an empty room. Relief and disappointment mingled in my chest. I stepped inside, note clutched in my hand.

A phone buzzed on the nightstand, its screen lighting up. I shouldn't look. I knew I shouldn't. But as I placed my note beside it, the message preview caught my eye.

"...photos ready for distribution after we're done with the omega bitch..."

My blood turned to ice. With trembling fingers, I picked up the phone. It was unlocked.

One swipe revealed my worst nightmare.

Photos of me—intimate photos I'd never taken. Doctored images. Messages between Nathan and his warriors planning to drug me at tonight's gathering. Detailed descriptions of what they would do to me while I was unconscious. Plans to record everything and share it across pack networks.

"...teach the wolfless whore what happens when she chases an Alpha..."

The phone slipped from my numb fingers. The room spun around me. Nine years of devotion. Nine years of sacrifice. All for a man who had been planning my destruction.

I grabbed the phone, my only evidence, and ran. Out of his room, out of the pack house, into the forest. Tears blinded me as branches whipped against my face.

Nine years of love had just transformed into a lifetime of shame in the space of a heartbeat.
