The first sensation was smell—antiseptic mixed with something floral and wrong. My eyelids fluttered open, revealing an unfamiliar ceiling. Not my bedroom. Not my packhouse. My fingers twitched against crisp sheets. Hospital sheets. "She's waking up," a voice murmured nearby. "Get the sedative ready." I tried to lift my hand, but my limbs felt like lead. Three years. Three years I'd been lying here, trapped in darkness, while the world continued without me.

Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King Chapter 1

The first sensation was smell—antiseptic mixed with something floral and wrong. My eyelids fluttered open, revealing an unfamiliar ceiling. Not my bedroom. Not my packhouse.

My fingers twitched against crisp sheets. Hospital sheets.

"She's waking up," a voice murmured nearby. "Get the sedative ready."

I tried to lift my hand, but my limbs felt like lead. Three years. Three years I'd been lying here, trapped in darkness, while the world continued without me.

"Drew?" I croaked, my voice barely audible. "Mom? Dad?"

A woman in a healer's uniform appeared in my field of vision—a face I didn't recognize. Her eyes widened slightly before narrowing with suspicion.

"Alpha's orders," she said to someone I couldn't see. "If she becomes lucid, administer the sedative immediately."

Lucid? I was perfectly lucid. I just couldn't move properly.

"Wait," I managed to say as she prepared a syringe. "What's happening? Where's my family?"

"Complications," she muttered, not meeting my eyes. "We can't risk you destabilizing the pack dynamic."

Pack dynamic? What was she talking about?

"Call my parents," I demanded, forcing strength into my voice. "I need to—"

She jabbed the needle into my arm before I could finish. Warmth spread through my veins, dragging me back toward unconsciousness.

"No," I whispered, fighting it. "No!"

But darkness claimed me again.

The next time I woke, I was stronger. I could sit up, though my muscles screamed in protest. The healer—Lena, according to her name tag—hovered nervously at my bedside.

"You shouldn't be awake yet," she whispered. "The dosage was—"

"I need to see my family," I interrupted, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. The floor was ice-cold against my bare feet. "Now."

Lena reached for another syringe, but I caught her wrist. "Don't. Please."

Something in my expression must have convinced her. She nodded reluctantly and helped me to my feet.

"Your quarters have been... reassigned," she said carefully. "But I can take you to the Luna's chambers. That's where..."

"That's where what?" I pressed when she hesitated.

"That's where you'll find... who you're looking for."

The corridors of the packhouse felt both familiar and strange as Lena guided me through them. Pack members stopped and stared as we passed, their expressions ranging from shock to pity to something that looked disturbingly like fear.

When we reached what had once been my quarters—the Luna's chambers—Lena knocked softly.

"Enter," called a voice I didn't recognize.

The door swung open to reveal a scene that stopped my heart.

A woman with my face—not exactly mine, but close enough to be my twin—sat in a rocking chair by the window. In her arms were two tiny pups, no more than a few months old. She wore my mother's Luna pendant around her neck. My books were stacked on the nightstand. My clothes hung in the open closet.

"Who are you?" I demanded, stepping forward.

The woman looked up, her expression shifting from surprise to practiced sympathy in an instant.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, adjusting the pups in her arms. "You must be Madison. I'm Sloane. Luna Sloane."

Luna Sloane? My head spun as I stared at this impostor wearing my life like a borrowed dress.

"These are Drew's pups," she continued, stroking one's cheek. "Aren't they beautiful?"

Before I could respond, the door opened again. Drew—my mate, my future Alpha—stepped into the room. His eyes widened when he saw me standing there.

"Madison," he said, his voice devoid of the warmth it once held when he spoke my name. "You're awake."

"What is this?" I gestured wildly at Sloane, at the pups, at my stolen life surrounding us.

Drew's jaw tightened. "Sloane is my mate now. The pack's Luna."

"And me?" I whispered.

He wouldn't meet my eyes. "You're a relic from the past, Madison. Be grateful the pack still cares for you at all."

"You can't do this," I hissed, standing in my father's office—the Alpha's office—facing my family for the first time since awakening. "I am the Stewart Pack heiress. I am the rightful Luna!"

My father's expression remained impassive. "Circumstances change, Madison. Your prolonged coma necessitated certain... adjustments."

"Adjustments?" I echoed incredulously. "You replaced me! With an Omega!"

My mother flinched at the word "Omega," her eyes darting to Hank, who stood silently by the window.

"Sloane has proven herself capable," my father continued. "The pack has accepted her. The transition was... smoother than expected."

"Where's my wolf?" I demanded, changing tactics. "Why can't I feel her? Why can't I shift?"

Guilty glances flashed between them.

"Madison," my mother said softly, stepping forward. "You need to accept reality. The pack has moved on. We've moved on."

Hank still wouldn't look at me.

"And you," I said, turning to my brother. "You went along with this?"

His silence was confirmation enough.

"We're still your family," my mother insisted, tears streaming down her face. "We still care for you."

"By drugging me? By stealing my mate? My position? My life?"

My father's expression hardened. "That's enough, Madison. You'll return to the medical wing now. When you've calmed down, we'll discuss your... accommodations."

As two Delta guards entered to escort me out, I realized the terrible truth: My own family had betrayed me. And somewhere inside me, my wolf was screaming.

The scent of pine and mountain air clung to my skin as I stepped into the sprawling neutral-territory lodge. My heart fluttered with anticipation, one hand instinctively resting on my still-flat stomach where our future heir grew. Three weeks of morning sickness had confirmed what my wolf, Luna, had already whispered to me – I was carrying Michael's pup, the future Alpha of Silver Creek Pack. "He's going to be so happy," I whispered to my wolf, feeling her eager agreement pulse through our shared consciousness. *He'll finally look at us the way he did when we first mated,* Luna murmured inside my mind. I hadn't told anyone about my pregnancy, not even my mother back in the Moonstone Pack. This moment belonged to Michael first – my Alpha, my mate, the man who had swept me into his world three years ago with promises of devotion and protection. The marble floors echoed beneath my careful steps as I followed the familiar trail of Michael's scent – sandalwood and authority, a commanding presence that had always made my knees weak. The diplomatic meetings between packs had kept him away for nearly two weeks, and though he'd ordered me to stay at our pack house, I couldn't bear to wait another day to share our miracle. My fingers trembled slightly as I traced his scent down a long corridor lined with carved wooden doors.
