Rejected by My Unfaithful Alpha Mate

I jerked awake to the sound of Emma's whimpers. The digital clock on my nightstand glowed 2:17 AM, casting an eerie blue light across our bedroom. Michael's side of the bed was empty—again. "Mommy..." Emma's voice drifted from down the hall, weak and trembling. I rushed to her room, my heart hammering against my ribs. The moment I pushed open her door, the scent of sickness hit me—sharp and wrong. Emma lay tangled in sweat-soaked sheets, her small body convulsing with shivers despite the heat radiating from her skin. "Baby, I'm here," I whispered, pressing my palm to her forehead. She was burning up, her temperature far beyond what any human child could survive. But Emma wasn't human—she was a werewolf child whose inner wolf was struggling to emerge.

Chapter 1

"It hurts, Mommy," she whimpered, her eyes glassy with fever. "The wolf is scratching to get out."

Fear clawed at my throat. This wasn't a normal shift fever. Something was terribly wrong.

I scooped her into my arms, her little body burning against my chest, and ran through the silent pack house toward the infirmary. My wolf paced anxiously within me, her protective instincts in overdrive. *Where is Michael? His daughter needs him.*

Anya Sharma, our pack healer, was already pulling on latex gloves when I burst through the infirmary doors. One look at Emma and her normally calm expression tightened with concern.

"How long has she been like this?" she asked, taking Emma from my arms and placing her on an examination table.

"I just found her. But her fever's too high, even for a pre-shift," I said, watching as Anya checked Emma's vital signs with practiced efficiency.

"Her wolf is struggling," Anya confirmed, her voice dropping to a professional murmur. "This isn't a standard emergence. She needs Alpha Michael's presence—his aura could help stabilize her wolf's transition."

I nodded, immediately reaching for the mind-link that connected me to my mate.

*Michael, Emma is seriously ill. We're in the infirmary. She needs you NOW.*

I waited for his response, counting the seconds that stretched into minutes. Nothing.

*Michael! Your daughter's wolf is struggling to emerge. Anya says she needs your Alpha presence. Please come immediately!*

Still nothing. The silence in our bond felt deliberate, a wall erected between us.

Emma's condition deteriorated over the next hour. Anya worked tirelessly, administering medications to control the fever while I sent increasingly desperate mind-links to Michael.

"I need to start more aggressive treatment," Anya finally said, her dark eyes meeting mine with unspoken sympathy. "But I really need the Alpha's approval and presence. His aura would strengthen her."

"I'll find him," I promised, squeezing Emma's hand before rushing out.

I tracked Michael's scent to the pack's great hall, anger building with each step. When I pushed open the heavy wooden doors, the scene before me froze the blood in my veins.

Michael sat on one of the plush couches, his arm wrapped protectively around Amanda. Her perfectly made-up face was artfully streaked with tears, her head resting dramatically on my mate's shoulder. They looked up at my entrance, Michael's expression immediately hardening.

"Nina, this isn't a good time," he said, his tone dismissive. "Amanda just received some disturbing news about her ex-mate."

I stared at him in disbelief. "Your daughter is fighting for her life in the infirmary. Anya needs you there now."

Amanda sniffled, pressing closer to Michael. "I'm sorry about Emma, but Michael is the only one who understands what I'm going through right now."

"Emma needs her father," I insisted, my voice shaking with the effort to remain calm.

Michael's jaw tightened. "Anya is perfectly capable of handling a child's fever. I'll check on Emma when Amanda is feeling better."

I turned and left without another word, my wolf howling with rage and betrayal. I returned to the infirmary to find Anya had started Emma on intravenous medications. My daughter's tiny arms were bruised from multiple needle attempts, her face pale beneath the fever's flush.

Hours passed. I dozed fitfully in the chair beside Emma's bed, waking near dawn to find her cot empty. Panic surged through me until I spotted her small form curled on the floor in the corner, her hands covered in blood where she'd clawed at the tiles in her delirium.

As I gathered my trembling daughter into my arms, Anya entered the room. Our eyes met over Emma's head, and the healer's gaze held a mixture of professional concern and personal outrage.

"He never came," she said softly. It wasn't a question.

Something broke inside me then—the final thread of loyalty and hope I'd clung to for years. My wolf, long suppressed beneath the perfect Luna facade, surged forward with crystal clarity. This wasn't just neglect; it was betrayal of the deepest kind.

As I cradled my daughter's fevered body against my chest, I made my decision. By dawn, I would file for mate bond rejection, and Michael Sterling would learn exactly who he had chosen to abandon.

I smoothed down the front of my dress one final time, checking my reflection in the mirror of our private Luna quarters. The silver silk hugged my curves perfectly, and I'd spent an hour arranging my dark hair in loose waves that framed my face. Tonight was important—our second mating anniversary, and perhaps the night I could finally bridge the growing distance between Kaden and me. Two years. Two years since I'd been recognized as his Luna, since I'd given birth to our son, since Kaden had begun using the excuse of 'wolf trauma' to avoid my touch. I'd researched everything I could about post-birth wolf sensitivity, spoken to healers, and tried countless approaches to help him heal. Tonight would be different. I'd prepared his favorite meal, lit candles throughout our quarters, and even requested a special dessert from the pack's baker—a chocolate cake with silver fondant, the Silverfang Pack's colors. 'He'll come home early tonight,' I told myself, adjusting a candle on the dining table. 'I'll make him feel safe enough to try again.' Sable, my wolf, stirred restlessly within me.

The wind bit through my thin jacket as I stood at the edge of Silver Moon territory, my hands protectively cradling my swollen belly. Five months pregnant with Wylder's pup, I'd been summoned by my mate—the future Alpha—with a terse message that brooked no argument. "Lea." His voice cut through the crisp air, devoid of the warmth I'd grown accustomed to over our eight years together. "You disappointed me yesterday." I lowered my gaze, exposing my neck in submission as I'd been taught since childhood. "Alpha, I'm sorry I missed Ariana's welcome ceremony. I wasn't feeling well—" "Silence." The word vibrated with power, his Alpha tone washing over me like a physical force. My knees buckled against my will, my body responding to the command before my mind could process it. The Alpha tone—a power reserved for emergencies, for protecting the pack—was being used on me. On his pregnant mate. "Look at me," Wylder commanded.

I learned a long time ago that the most dangerous thing you can do in a room full of ranked wolves is look like you belong there. So that's exactly what I do. The Ironvale autumn equinox banquet is the kind of event that costs more per table setting than most Omegas make in a month. Crystal chandeliers. White orchids flown in from somewhere that isn't here. Wolves in tailored suits and gowns that announce their rank before they open their mouths. I move through the crowd in a dress the color of midnight, champagne in hand, and I count exits the way other people count breaths — automatically, without thinking about it. Three doors. Two service corridors. One window at the east end that opens onto the garden terrace.

When my mother’s letter arrived, I was still reeling from the thirty lashes Christian had ordered, lying facedown on the bed, pain blurring my vision as I struggled to read the words. The letter was firm: if I couldn’t bring Christian back to discuss the mark ceremony within half a month, I would have to accept the mate my parents had chosen for me. My hands trembled as I tried to fold the letter, but the tent flap was abruptly pulled open. Christian stepped in, his sharp eyes immediately catching the words “mark ceremony” on the parchment. His brows furrowed, and his voice was cold. “Mark ceremony? I haven’t achieved anything noteworthy yet. How can I possibly consider marking you? Are you so desperate?” --- He seemed so certain that the letter referred to him. And why wouldn’t he?

On the day I left, Alpha Kayden stood silently to the side, watching as I folded the few belongings I had into the small bag I’d brought with me when I first arrived at the Silver Moon Pack’s mansion. He stepped closer, his Alpha aura faintly brushing against me, and said in a calm voice, “There’s no need to rush. The envoy won’t arrive for a few more days.” I wrapped a familiar pen in a handkerchief before looking up at him. “Today is a good day for travel. I don’t have much, so it won’t take long to pack.” It was too calm. Too easy. Compared to the messy rejections or affairs among the high-ranking wolves, my departure from the Silver Moon Pack was just a few words and a rejection letter. I carefully wiped down my old books and placed them in the corner of the bag, wondering if I’d forgotten anything. I didn’t notice the two Omegas’ contracts clutched in his hand. After a long hesitation, he finally stepped forward and offered them to me.

Reborn into this life, I’ve made every effort to avoid any entanglement with Jaziel Shaw. When he was bullied by the pack’s delinquents during pack training, I didn’t step in to stop it. When he graduated at the top of his class from the pack’s academy, celebrated with a pack run through the territory, I declined Winter’s invitation to watch, choosing instead to stay home and mend the torn training gear. When he brought Bella Gonzalez, his late brother’s mate, to a pack gathering and they were mocked, I didn’t intervene to smooth things over. In my past life, he had taken my only pup and handed him to Bella to raise. From then on, my son refused to call me “Mother,” addressing me only as “Analia Payne.” As he grew older, he even lectured me on being a dutiful Luna, urging me to accept Jaziel’s bond with Bella so he could have heirs from both lines. But I hadn’t expected Jaziel to reject other potential mates, just as he had in my past life, and come to my family’s pack to propose to me once more. In that moment, I realized with a sinking heart that Jaziel must also be reborn. --- When my father sent for me to meet Jaziel in the pack’s main hall, I was still reeling from the shock. That day, when I’d chosen not to attend the pack run celebrating the academy’s top graduates, Winter had come to tell me all about it.
