The day I discovered I was pregnant, I was filled with joy and headed to the pack house to find Zayne Freeman, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack. Just as I was about to share the news, his Beta, Corey Rose, unveiled a shocking scene—a she-wolf trapped in a cage. Zayne, who normally remained aloof around others, suddenly brightened at the sight. She bore an uncanny resemblance to his long-lost mate, Ayah Austin. As Zayne’s face softened and he gently caressed her cheek, I chuckled bitterly, realizing that over ten years of being his unmarked mate had all been a mistake. I sat in the private lounge of the pack house, bracing myself for what felt like an eternity. I had planned to tell Zayne about the pregnancy, but Corey interrupted by having someone wheel in a cage covered with a black cloth. “Alpha,” Corey declared with a grin, “this is a surprise I’ve carefully prepared for you.” He whipped off the cloth, revealing a she-wolf kneeling inside. Her small face showed clear fear, trembling slightly, yet she was undeniably beautiful—a cascade of brown curls framing a face as doll-like as Ayah’s. A chill settled in my heart, and I glanced at Zayne.

Rejected By My Fated Alpha Chapter 1

The eyes that usually held no emotion now sparkled with life.

Rising from his seat, Zayne moved toward the she-wolf, step by step. Corey laughed, asking, “So, Alpha, are you delighted with the gift?” Zayne’s long fingers gently grazed the girl’s face, a smile tugging at his lips. “Corey, aren’t you worried my mate might be upset with such an offering?” he teased, his alpha tone laced with amusement. Corey turned to me with a sly smile, “Your mate is always so understanding and magnanimous; I figured she wouldn’t mind.”

But I wasn’t understanding or magnanimous. They all underestimated me, fully aware I’d never dare to object. Officially, I was the Luna of the Silver Moon Pack. In reality, I was merely a placeholder, obeying commands from everyone, powerless to resist. Any resistance, and the title of Luna could easily be given to another.

I kept silent, clutching tightly onto the pregnancy test results hidden in my bag. I had just learned I was pregnant. Knowing Zayne’s fondness for heirs, I thought this news would delight him. But now, he seemed to have found something even more pleasing.

“Alright, let her out; I’ll keep her,” Zayne’s voice reached me clearly, his tone commanding yet almost tender. Corey went to open the cage, and everyone celebrated, treating me as if I were invisible. Frozen in place, waves of self-loathing washed over me. Over a decade as an unmarked mate, enduring indifference and still hoping to win the affection of an Alpha who would never truly see me.

Pathetic. I was truly pathetic.

The scent of pine and mountain air clung to my skin as I stepped into the sprawling neutral-territory lodge. My heart fluttered with anticipation, one hand instinctively resting on my still-flat stomach where our future heir grew. Three weeks of morning sickness had confirmed what my wolf, Luna, had already whispered to me – I was carrying Michael's pup, the future Alpha of Silver Creek Pack. "He's going to be so happy," I whispered to my wolf, feeling her eager agreement pulse through our shared consciousness. *He'll finally look at us the way he did when we first mated,* Luna murmured inside my mind. I hadn't told anyone about my pregnancy, not even my mother back in the Moonstone Pack. This moment belonged to Michael first – my Alpha, my mate, the man who had swept me into his world three years ago with promises of devotion and protection. The marble floors echoed beneath my careful steps as I followed the familiar trail of Michael's scent – sandalwood and authority, a commanding presence that had always made my knees weak. The diplomatic meetings between packs had kept him away for nearly two weeks, and though he'd ordered me to stay at our pack house, I couldn't bear to wait another day to share our miracle. My fingers trembled slightly as I traced his scent down a long corridor lined with carved wooden doors.

The bass from the karaoke bar pulsed through my chest like a second heartbeat, each thump making my temples throb. I watched Lucca laughing with his pack brothers, his arm slung casually over Delta Marcus's shoulder as they belted out some terrible rendition of an old pack anthem. The crowd was a sea of familiar faces from Silvermoon, all here to celebrate our territory's founding anniversary. I'd been smiling for two hours straight, playing the perfect Luna-to-be, but the noise was finally winning. 'I need some air,' I murmured to Mira, who nodded with understanding before turning back to her own conversation. The cool night air hit my face like a blessing as I slipped through the bar's side door. Silvermoon territory at night was beautiful—the trees rustled gently, and moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. I took a deep breath, letting Selene, my wolf, stretch contentedly within me. For just a moment, I could pretend I was alone with the night sky. Then I heard Lucca's voice.

“Don’t stop,” she whispered. “She won’t come up.” I did. I stopped breathing. Thinking. Existing. The voice came from inside my bedroom—our bedroom. My sanctuary. I stood frozen in the hallway, dinner still warm downstairs, candles flickering in a room that no longer mattered. The scent of truffle butter still clung to my sleeves. Through the door—left carelessly ajar—I saw enough. A woman with auburn hair and wine-colored nails was curled into my husband's side, her lipstick smeared across his throat like a bruise. Her fingers skimmed down his back, possessive, practiced. Oliver moaned softly. A sound I hadn’t heard in months. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I turned. Through the adjoining bathroom, I slipped into the walk-in closet, hiding behind the luxury he insisted I needed. Dresses lined in neat rows. Shoes in pyramids. A fortress of silk and leather and betrayal. I sat down, gripping the hem of my dress, listening. “I don’t know why you’re still stalling,” Lily said, her voice languid and confident. “She’s not stupid, Oliver. She’s suspicious. You said she keeps asking questions.” He sighed. “Let her ask. She won’t do anything. Not until it’s too late.” A beat. “She’s planning something tonight,” he added, almost amused. “Made some kind of fancy dinner. Probably filet again. It’s sweet, in a tragic way.” Lily giggled. “You think she’s figured out we’ve been using her?” “Scarlett sees what she wants to see. She’s desperate. That’s what makes it easy.” There was movement on the bed. Sheets shifting. “She still has no idea about the inheritance?” Lily murmured. “None,” he said. “Her father’s trust releases next month. Once the money hits the accounts, I’ll serve the papers. I’ve already started moving things offshore.” My throat closed. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. So this was what I got from our five-year marriage.
