Rejected by My Alpha, Replaced by His Luna Novel Cover

Rejected by My Alpha, Replaced by His Luna

Ezra's rise to Alpha should have sealed her fate as Luna, but instead it severs the mate bond, freezing his mark and leaving her abandoned in the corridor, the ceremonial cloak still in her hands. Replaced by a new chosen one, she must navigate a pack that no longer sees her as worthy. Yet the bond, though shattered, whispers with a dangerous, obsessive hunger—refusing to fade. As secrets and forbidden longing surface, she faces a choice: accept the rejection or fight for a love that destiny itself seems determined to destroy.

Chapter 1

The mate bond snapped at 10:47 PM on the night of Ezra's Alpha ascension, three hours after he marked my neck in front of the entire pack.

I felt it go cold first. The mark—his mark, the one that had burned like a brand when he set his teeth into my skin—turned to ice against my throat. I pressed my fingers to it in the empty corridor outside the Alpha study and felt nothing. No warmth. No pulse. Just the shape of a scar that had stopped meaning anything.

I had come to show him the ceremonial Luna cloak Helen had given me an hour ago. White silk with silver threading, the kind of thing I'd never imagined wearing. The kind of thing that said I wasn't an Omega anymore.

But the door to the study was cracked open, and Parker Ellis's voice came through it like a knife.

"An Omega mate will destroy your credibility before the bond is even a season old." Her tone was calm. Factual. The voice of someone stating something everyone already knew. "Every Alpha within three territories will see it as weakness. They'll test your borders within the month."

I stopped breathing.

"She's my fated mate." Ezra's voice. But it didn't sound like a defense. It sounded like he was trying to convince himself.

"The Moon Goddess makes mistakes." Parker's words landed soft and certain. "Or she tests us. You've spent years building your reputation. You can't let one night undo all of it."

I should have walked away. I should have pushed the door open. I should have done anything except stand there with my fingers on a mark that was already going numb.

"She trained me," Ezra said quietly. "She knows my wolf better than I do."

"Exactly." Parker's voice sharpened. "She's useful. Keep her as a pack resource. But a Luna? Ezra, you know what the other Alphas will say."

The silence that followed was worse than anything she'd said.

I felt my wolf stir for the first time in years—a flicker of heat beneath my ribs, a snarl building in my chest that I'd spent a lifetime learning to swallow. I pressed harder against the mark on my neck. It stayed cold.

Then Ezra spoke.

"I need to think."

Not a refusal. Not a defense. Just five words that meant Parker had already won.

I turned and walked. The Luna cloak slipped from my hands and pooled on the floor behind me. I didn't pick it up.

The pack house was full of wolves celebrating Ezra's ascension. I moved through them like a ghost. No one looked at me. No one ever did, except when they needed something.

I made it to my room—the small one in the east wing, the one they'd given me when I was twelve and told me I'd stay there until I'd worked off my debt to the pack. I locked the door and sat on the edge of the bed.

The bond was still there. Thin and cold, but there. I could feel Ezra on the other end of it, a distant shape in the dark. I reached for him through the mind-link.

Nothing.

I tried again.

Still nothing.

He'd shut me out.

I looked down at my hands. The same hands that had spent six years maintaining the ward that kept this pack safe. The same hands that had taught Ezra how to fight, how to shift, how to command his wolf when it tried to command him. The same hands that had bled into the soil at every anchor point along Ironveil's border because no one else could do it and no one else had ever asked why I could.

I had spent my entire life making myself useful. Making myself small enough that they wouldn't notice how much they needed me. Making myself quiet enough that they'd forget I was anything except the debt I owed.

And tonight, the Moon Goddess herself had said I was enough.

But Ezra had walked into a room with Parker Ellis, and three hours later, the bond was already dying.

I stood. My wolf surged again—stronger this time, hot and furious and awake in a way she hadn't been since I was a child. I felt her claws under my skin. Felt her teeth in my jaw.

I crossed to the small desk in the corner and pulled out the ward journal I'd been keeping since I was fourteen. Page after page of anchor points, ritual schedules, the intricate lattice of magic I'd been holding together alone for years. The thing Helen Crawford had tried to use against me with that Luna Accord clause. The thing I'd studied obsessively after, trying to understand what I'd been doing all this time.

The thing that was mine.

I traced my finger down the list of anchor points. Twelve in total. I'd reinforced the last one two days ago.

I could undo it in less than a week.

The bond flickered. Still cold. Still thin. Still there.

I closed the journal and looked at the door.

Somewhere in this pack house, Ezra was making a choice. And I was done waiting to see what it would be.

I opened the drawer beneath the desk and pulled out the small bag I'd packed three years ago, the night Helen had shoved that contract at me. Clothes. Cash. The ward journal. A map.

I slung it over my shoulder and walked to the window.

The border was six miles south. I could feel the nearest anchor point from here—a low hum in my chest, a thread I'd been holding taut for so long I'd forgotten it was a leash.

I could let go anytime I wanted.

I climbed out the window and dropped into the dark.

I dragged my atrophied body to our home, only to find Derek with Anjelica, a woman I once called a friend. She was wearing my jewelry and carrying his heir. But the knife in my heart wasn't seeing them together. It was my son. My five-year-old boy, Errol, didn't run to me. He screamed in terror and sprayed me with a bottle of liquid he had been hiding. It hissed against my skin. Wolfsbane. "Go away, monster!" he sobbed, pointing the bottle at me like a weapon. "Mommy Anjelica said this burns the bad things!" I had lost my wolf, my husband, and my child. But they weren't done taking from me. When Anjelica faked a medical emergency, Derek signed a general proxy form. I was dragged into surgery, not as a patient, but as a harvest. I heard the doctor whisper, "She wants her dry." They thought draining my blood would kill me. "I, Catherine, reject the bond." Miles away, Derek fell to his knees, vomiting blood as the connection snapped. He thought I was dead. He didn't know the White Wolf had just awakened.
