Chapter 3

NADIA

"I thought you wanted to pack out, what are you still doing here?” Adams sneered.” Your time with me is up, you should be getting the fuck out of my life.”

My eyes burnt into a scorching gaze as I thought what best to do to him for disappointing and disgracing me this way.

“Well, I'll leave your house but not as you think. I'll make sure you pay dearly for what you have done to me.”

“So funny if you think I'll give you a dime when I have my new pregnant Luna to take care of!” He scoffed. I swallowed a lump, bigger than my throat should. My eyes spread so wide.

“What did you just say?”

“Well, we're marking our two years anniversary today.” Olga said, twisting her face and twirling with pride.

I was speechless.

“So you mean you have been having an affair with my husband behind my back and still pretended to be my best friend?” I challenged.

“What did you think made me become best friends with you first of all when you're an Omega and I'm the daughter of a Gamma. We aren't even in the same class. So you thought I was a fool?”

Same thing Adams said. Oh God!

Adams chuckled, walking Olga away. “Let's leave the clingy bitch. She really wants big things she can't ever get.” Olga scoffed.

“She has gotten exactly what she deserves. Now she knows her position.” She mocked.

Alpha Adams handed a classy red skimpy gown to her. Try the dress in my room, I can't wait to see you in this dress on this special day." He said and went downstairs leaving Olga standing there, while she was admiring the red gown given to her.

She took it excitedly and went straight to his room. I was still observing, revenge lurking in my mind.

I had so much to say, but nothing felt right at the moment. I didn't need to say many words, I needed to show actions, to teach them a lesson.

"Rate me!" Olga came down with a smile on her face as she put on the dress.

"You look extremely gorgeous, like a true Luna and my queen." Adams said to her with a grin on his face.

"I can't appreciate you less, my Alpha." Olga replied to him before turning to me with her deadly fake smile. "How do I look, Nadia?" She scoffed but I turned away, scoffing.

I was too pissed to even haul an insult, I just remained quiet until Adams snapped at once. "Common! I don't want to believe that you're envious and resentful already.” Adams mocked.

"Olga is the perfect candidate for the Luna position, she's a diplomat and my pack stands the chance of reaching a greater height with her being my Luna. Despite studying International Relations, she also has a diploma in medical science and can also assist as the pack doctor, our family doctor. What can you offer?”

My brows arched.

“But I'm not sending you away. You can step aside to become my second wife and her, the first.”

My consciousness sailed off, I stood there like a zombie wondering if this was all my mind playing games and movies with me.

“Aside from this, Olga has been of great help to my companies, she has made my companies reach unimaginable heights. She deserves to become the Luna. Whatever I'm doing now, or whatever gifts I'm buying her, just know she deserves every single one of them." He added.

Without saying a word, I left the room straight to the garden where I picked up my phone to call my lawyer friend, one of the best divorce lawyers in Detroit Pack. Kia was my high school classmate and ever since we've been talking even though not so closely.

“Hi my Luna,” she teased as she picked my call.

“No Kia. I'm no longer the Luna.

“What happened?” She asked.

I gave a sigh. “Adams has brought home my best friend, Olga. She's even pregnant for him.” I felt the words so heavy as they came out from my mouth.

“In three days, we'll be having our anniversary and he chose to do this to me.” I burst into tears. I couldn't continue again. My entire body was weakened.

“Please find a way, come see me.” Kia said right away, looking like she had something to do about the case. I obeyed and managed to get up, not going back to the house to pick anything. I already had my phone and wallet with me.

When I arrived at our apartment, she rushed out to hug me. Seeing I was so downcast, she guided me to the couch, squatting before me. “You said three days is your anniversary with him, right?”

“Yes,” I nodded.

“Then you have to get someone better than him, someone to celebrate a new relationship with on that day. It would be the best revenge.”

I jerked back, wondering if she knew what she was talking about. “Well, I wanted his money, to take back all he has after divorce.”

“That's why I called you.”

“The court wouldn't rule against his favor, he's the Alpha, he pays the judges. What were you expecting?” She said this and my mind failed. I never reasoned this but it's reality. The film clouding my vengeful brain cleared and I now had to find some other way.

“We have a lot of elites, relatives of the Alpha Kings in the Regal Pack. How about attending one of their lavish night clubs? I heard even the unmated triplet kings frequent there.”

I shook my head, not wanting to rely on another false hope. “I don't think that will work. Even when they frequent there, I'm not their type.”

Kia however didn't give up, she continued to persuade me until I finally gave in. She took me shopping. “You need to look classy,” she said.

“But you're coming with me?”

“Sure?” She nodded.

Without haste, we took a fun trip to the Regal Pack which is a neighboring pack to our pack. It was a thirty minute journey, shorter than I'd thought. When we arrived, Kia took me to Milton Club. It was the most exquisite in town, a five-star club of which the Alpha kings were members.

At the gate, the bouncers stopped up, about to ask questions when Kia pulled out a golden card, I peered at it. It said “Membership Card” on top.

“She's my sister,” she told them and they let us.

“You never told me this isn't your first time here?” I shrugged my shoulders and she chuckled.

“If I wasn't a member, how would I know the Alpha kings came here?” She asked and I smiled lip-tight, looking ahead of us as she held my hand and walked in. It had over a thousand people and everyone I saw screamed luxury.

I turned to Kia. “Have you talked with them before?” She knew what I meant. For a while, she said nothing. Then she smiled.

“The third triplet who's an International Diplomat was my coursemate overseas. He even introduced me to the man I'm currently seeing here.”

My jaw dropped.

“But you never told me this?”

“I was afraid nervousness would make you decline. Actually, they asked me to link them up with some beautiful girl from my pack, saying Detroit has the most beautiful girls in the country just like me. Now that Adams has betrayed you, you're the best candidate.”

Both shock and amusement filled my veins. I stood there facing her, dazed and mute. My spirit left my body, though I guessed she hoped I might luckily land with the triplet kings, I didn't know she already had a direct arrangement with them.

How can I stand before these sexy, hot Alphas? I've been smitten with them in fashion journals and the media. How can I handle being with them in real life?

I was sinking deep in my thoughts when a deep, sexy tone brought me back. “Kia, you're here?” A deep, seductive scent overwhelmed me, it was a combination of different sweet-smelling wild flowers. I turned to look at who was talking only to find myself gasping, stumbling before a pair of firm hands gripped my waist.

It's the Alpha kings!

My eyes ran a quick scan over them. They were dressed in black trousers and white shirts hugging their muscular physique tightly. Their entire existence screamed luxury, the most handsome, charming men I've ever come across. With these alluring identical looks, I thought I was seeing angels. Then they smelled of exquisite cologne on top of this strong alluring natural scent.

“Nadia, meet Tristan, Mario and Zayne, your kings.”

They didn't mind her but pulled their noses closer to me, I was vibrating with the hands of two of them still on my waist. From me, they shifted their gazes to Kia, then back to me.

“Mate?” They uttered in unison. Goosebumps covered my body instantly.

The last thing I ever thought of.

The small glass vial felt cold against my palm as I held it up to the morning light filtering through the curtains. Five years. Five years of this poisonous ritual, of swallowing wolfsbane to mask my scent, to delay my heat, to play the perfect, docile Luna. "Just one more day," I whispered to my reflection in the mirror. My eyes looked back at me, dull and lifeless—a side effect of the wolfsbane that had become my constant companion. The poison suppressed not just my wolf, but my very essence. Sasha, my wolf, had been silent for so long that sometimes I wondered if she still existed within me. "The contract expires at midnight," I reminded myself, tipping the vial and letting the bitter liquid slide down my throat. The familiar burn followed, spreading through my chest and settling in my stomach like a stone. "Just one more day of pretending." Today marked both the Silver Moon Pack's annual Moon Festival and my fifth mating anniversary with Alpha Miles Hunter.

The heavy oak doors of the Silver Claw Pack's grand hall magnified the silence as I stood at the podium. My voice, usually steady and commanding, echoed slightly as I pointed to the map of our northern borders. "As you can see, the rogue incursions have increased by twelve percent since the last full moon," I stated, meeting the gaze of the Council elders. "I propose shifting the Gamma unit to the ridge line to—" "That will be enough, Cecilia." My mate’s voice cut through the air like a whip. I froze, my hand hovering over the map. Alpha August Spencer stood up from his throne, his aura restless and agitated. He wasn't looking at me. His eyes were fixed on the side entrance, where the heavy curtains parted. A hush fell over the room. Violette Fox stepped forward.

The silk of my ceremonial gown whispered against my skin, a stark, pure white that seemed to glow under the twilight sky. I stood at the center of the Sacred Gathering, the ancient clearing where every Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack had taken a mate for generations. The air was thick with the scent of pine, damp earth, and the nervous anticipation of three hundred wolves watching their leader. I am Charlotte Carter, the Alpha. I told myself this as I smoothed the fabric over my hips, trying to calm the tremor in my hands. It was a mantra I had repeated since my parents died, leaving me to shoulder the weight of the pack alone at twenty-two. Today was supposed to be the day that burden became lighter. Today, I would mark Cade Ross. Cade stood opposite me, looking devastatingly handsome in his formal black suit. He was my Beta, my childhood friend, and the man I had chosen.

During my maternity leave, I found myself scrolling through the pack’s online forum to pass the time. That’s when I stumbled upon a post that was rapidly climbing in popularity. The headline read, "I Don’t Envy His Mate Because He Reserves All His Love for Me." Curious, I clicked on it. The profile picture was a butterfly—the same butterfly that matched the tattoo on my mate’s arm. --- Exhaustion from childbirth clung to me like a heavy fog, and the gnawing pain in my back felt like it could snap at any moment. In an attempt to distract myself, I aimlessly scrolled through the pack’s online forum and stumbled upon a post buzzing with activity. The profile picture was a butterfly, identical to the tattoo on Edison’s arm. Intrigued, I opened the post, and each word radiated the brazen audacity of an Omega trying to claim what wasn’t hers. "My mate’s Luna just had his child, and she’s home recovering. I casually mentioned wanting to visit Venice, and he booked a flight immediately.

I stared at my reflection in the full-length mirror, smoothing down the white ceremonial dress for the third time. The delicate silver embroidery along the neckline caught the light as I moved, shimmering like moonlight on water. My hands trembled slightly as I fastened the last silver clasp. "Are you ready, Luna?" Elena asked from the doorway, her eyes bright with anticipation. "The pack is already gathering." "I think so," I replied, taking a deep breath. Three years. Three years of waiting for this moment, for Giovanni to finally complete our mate ceremony and make me his Luna in truth as well as name. My wolf, Sarah, stirred within me. *He'll come through this time,* she whispered. *He has to.* I wanted to believe her.
