Rejected Alpha's Desperate Plea Novel Cover

Rejected Alpha's Desperate Plea

Dawn crept through my curtains as I stood before the mirror, smoothing the silver fabric of my gown against my body. Five years of waiting had led to this moment—the annual Harvest Moon Ceremony—where Ryan had promised to finally acknowledge our mate bond publicly. "Tonight's the night, Madison," I whispered to my reflection, trying to calm the trembling excitement of my wolf, Selene, who paced restlessly within me. *Finally, finally, finally,* she chanted, her anticipation bleeding into my own. My fingers dipped into my pocket, caressing the cool metal of the Luna ceremonial bracelet I'd kept hidden for months. Ryan had slipped it to me in secret, with whispered promises that tonight would change everything. "Just a few more hours, Selene," I murmured, tracing the intricate moon patterns on the bracelet. "After five years in the shadows, we'll finally stand in the light." I'd chosen this dress specifically—a shimmering silver that matched Selene's fur, elegant yet understated. Not wanting to appear presumptuous, but ready for my role as Luna. How many nights had I stayed awake designing defense strategies for the pack?

Chapter 3

The forest was silent as I approached the border between Shadowpine and Silvermoon territories, nothing but the crunch of leaves beneath my feet and Selene's determined energy pulsing through me. Dawn painted the sky in shades of pink and gold, casting long shadows through the trees. I'd traveled all night, putting as much distance as possible between myself and the pack that had taken everything from me.

*We're almost there,* Selene whispered within me. *Freedom is just ahead.*

I paused at the invisible line that marked the boundary, my heart hammering against my ribs. Once I crossed, there would be no going back. Ryan would consider it the ultimate betrayal—his mate, his strategist, defecting to his greatest rival.

*Ex-mate,* Selene corrected fiercely. *We rejected him when he betrayed us.*

As I stood there, gathering my courage, a figure emerged from the trees on the Silvermoon side. Tall, broad-shouldered, with golden-brown hair catching the morning light. I tensed, ready to retreat if necessary.

"Madison Pierce," he said, his voice deep but gentle, carrying easily across the space between us. "I'm Nathan Sterling."

The son of the Alpha King. I'd heard of him, of course—his reputation for fairness and intelligence preceded him. What I hadn't expected was the calm respect in his eyes as he regarded me from a careful distance, making no move to approach further.

"How did you know I was coming?" I asked, my voice hoarse from the night's journey.

A small smile touched his lips. "Word travels. When Shadowpine's brilliant strategist leaves in the night, neighboring packs take notice."

I shifted uncomfortably, suddenly aware of my disheveled appearance after hours of travel. "And you came to turn me away?"

"Quite the opposite." Nathan took a single step forward, still maintaining a respectful distance. "I came to welcome you. My father, Alpha King Alaric, has authorized me to offer you sanctuary and a place on Silvermoon's strategic council."

I blinked in surprise. "Just like that? Without knowing if I'm a spy or carrying secrets?"

"We know exactly who you are, Madison Pierce." His eyes held mine steadily. "Creator of the SkyTech Defense System. Architect of Shadowpine's territorial expansion strategies. And a she-wolf of remarkable strength who deserves recognition, not shadows."

Selene stirred within me, intrigued by this wolf who spoke to us as equals. *He sees us,* she murmured. *Really sees us.*

"Why would Silvermoon want me?" I asked, still suspicious despite the warmth spreading through my chest at his words.

"Because talent should be honored, not exploited." Nathan extended his hand, palm up, in a gesture of welcome. "The choice is yours. No pressure, no commands."

The contrast to Ryan's controlling nature couldn't have been more stark. I took a deep breath and stepped across the boundary, feeling something shift inside me as I left Shadowpine territory behind.

Nathan's expression softened with what looked like relief and something else—a flash of admiration that made my cheeks warm. "Welcome to Silvermoon, Madison."

As we walked deeper into Silvermoon territory, I couldn't help glancing back once at the life I was leaving behind. Nathan noticed but said nothing, allowing me the moment without judgment.

---

"TRAITOR!" Ryan's roar echoed through the Shadowpine pack hall, his fist slamming down on the ancient oak table hard enough to crack the wood. "She's taken our defense strategies to Silvermoon!"

The emergency council he'd convened shifted uncomfortably, exchanging uneasy glances. Marcus, his Beta, cleared his throat.

"Alpha, perhaps if we consider why she left—"

"She left because she couldn't handle seeing me with another she-wolf," Ryan snarled, pacing like a caged animal. "Petty jealousy, nothing more."

Chloe, seated prominently at his right hand, nodded eagerly. "She always was emotionally unstable."

A low murmur rippled through the gathered pack members. From the back, an older Delta spoke up.

"With respect, Alpha, Madison Pierce designed our entire defense system. She's been your chief strategist for five years. Her leaving is... concerning."

Ryan's eyes flashed dangerously. "Anyone who contacts her is exiled. Anyone who speaks her name is demoted. She is dead to this pack. Is that understood?"

The council nodded, but the doubt had already taken root. As Ryan stormed out, Marcus caught Chloe's smug expression and frowned. Something wasn't right, and the pack knew it.

---

The Silvermoon Pack's central clearing took my breath away. Unlike Shadowpine's utilitarian design, this space blended natural beauty with function—towering silver birches formed a natural cathedral around a crystalline pool, with the pack's main hall built into the living rock of the hillside.

Nathan led me toward two figures waiting on a raised stone dais. Even without introduction, I knew them immediately—Alpha King Alaric Sterling, tall and imposing with the same golden-brown hair as his son, and beside him, Luna Queen Elena, her silver-streaked dark hair falling in elegant waves around a face that radiated both warmth and authority.

"Madison Pierce," Alaric's voice carried the weight of his position without the domineering edge I'd grown accustomed to in Ryan. "Silvermoon welcomes you."

I bowed my head respectfully. "Thank you for your generosity, Alpha King."

"My son speaks highly of your strategic abilities," Elena said, her eyes studying me with keen intelligence. "We would be honored if you would join today's council meeting."

My heart skipped a beat. "Today? But I've only just arrived."

"All the more reason," Alaric smiled. "Fresh eyes often see what familiar ones miss."

Hours later, seated at the strategic council table, I found myself speaking about potential improvements to their northern border defenses. The words flowed easily, my mind racing with possibilities now that I was free to express them openly.

When I finished, there was a moment of silence. Then the council members began nodding, one even applauding softly.

"Brilliant analysis," said the head strategist, an older wolf named Thorne. "Exactly what we've been missing."

I felt a warmth spreading through me that had nothing to do with embarrassment and everything to do with recognition. Across the table, Nathan caught my eye and smiled—not the condescending approval I was used to, but the genuine appreciation of an equal.

For the first time in years, both Selene and I felt the same emotion: hope.

As the council adjourned, Nathan approached me. "How does it feel?" he asked quietly.

"Like breathing for the first time," I admitted.

His eyes softened. "This is just the beginning, Madison. Just wait until you see what you're capable of when you're not standing in someone else's shadow."

Something in his voice made my wolf stir with interest. Before I could respond, a messenger burst into the hall, face pale with urgency.

"Alpha King! Shadowpine forces have been spotted gathering at our southern border. Alpha Ryan is demanding the return of his property—he says Madison Pierce belongs to him."

My hands, once soft and manicured as befitted a Luna, were now cracked and raw from three years of menial labor. The harsh lye soap burned the cuts on my knuckles, but I didn't pause. I bit back the sharp retort that rose in my throat. *Patience,* I reminded myself. *This is temporary.
