Rejected Alpha's Desperate Plea Novel Cover

Rejected Alpha's Desperate Plea

Dawn crept through my curtains as I stood before the mirror, smoothing the silver fabric of my gown against my body. Five years of waiting had led to this moment—the annual Harvest Moon Ceremony—where Ryan had promised to finally acknowledge our mate bond publicly. "Tonight's the night, Madison," I whispered to my reflection, trying to calm the trembling excitement of my wolf, Selene, who paced restlessly within me. *Finally, finally, finally,* she chanted, her anticipation bleeding into my own. My fingers dipped into my pocket, caressing the cool metal of the Luna ceremonial bracelet I'd kept hidden for months. Ryan had slipped it to me in secret, with whispered promises that tonight would change everything. "Just a few more hours, Selene," I murmured, tracing the intricate moon patterns on the bracelet. "After five years in the shadows, we'll finally stand in the light." I'd chosen this dress specifically—a shimmering silver that matched Selene's fur, elegant yet understated. Not wanting to appear presumptuous, but ready for my role as Luna. How many nights had I stayed awake designing defense strategies for the pack?

Chapter 1

"After five years in the shadows, we'll finally stand in the light."

I'd chosen this dress specifically—a shimmering silver that matched Selene's fur, elegant yet understated. Not wanting to appear presumptuous, but ready for my role as Luna. How many nights had I stayed awake designing defense strategies for the pack? How many times had I guided Ryan through territorial negotiations from the background? All while he insisted our bond remain hidden "for the good of the pack hierarchy."

The weight of those years pressed against my chest as I applied a final touch of lipstick. Tonight would make it all worthwhile.

---

The clearing was transformed under the full moon's glow, torches illuminating the faces of every Shadowpine Pack member gathered in concentric circles. My heart thundered against my ribs as Ryan stepped onto the ceremonial stone at the center, his commanding presence drawing every eye.

"Brothers and sisters of Shadowpine," his Alpha voice resonated through the night air, sending shivers down my spine. "Tonight, under the Harvest Moon, we celebrate our pack's strength and unity."

Selene whined with anticipation. *Soon, soon, soon.*

I stood at the edge of the inner circle, positioned exactly where Ryan had instructed—visible enough to be called forward when the moment came, yet still inconspicuous. My fingers closed around the bracelet in my pocket, its metal warm now from my constant touch.

"This past year has brought challenges," Ryan continued, his dark eyes sweeping across the gathering, lingering briefly on me with an unreadable expression. "But through strategic thinking and unwavering loyalty, Shadowpine has emerged stronger than ever."

My contribution to that strength remained unspoken, as always. I swallowed hard, reminding myself that in minutes, everything would change.

Ryan's voice swelled with pride. "Now, it is my honor to recognize those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to our pack."

This was it. My pulse quickened as I took a half-step forward, ready for my name to be called.

"The Rising Wolf honor this year goes to..." Ryan paused dramatically, his lips curving into a smile, "Chloe Anderson!"

The crowd erupted in cheers as a stunning blonde stepped forward, her face glowing with surprise and delight. My body froze, confusion flooding my system.

*Wrong name,* Selene growled. *He said the wrong name.*

Chloe—the new she-wolf who'd joined our pack barely three months ago—practically floated to Ryan's side, her eyes locked on him with naked adoration.

"Chloe has shown remarkable adaptability and enthusiasm," Ryan announced, placing his hand on her shoulder in a gesture that seemed far too intimate. "Her contributions to pack morale have been...exceptional."

The way his voice caressed that final word made my stomach twist. This wasn't part of the plan. This wasn't supposed to happen.

"Alpha, why not reward her with a special pack hunt?" someone called from the crowd.

Ryan's laugh rang out, warm and indulgent. "An excellent suggestion. In fact, I think a mates' retreat is in order. Chloe and I will lead the next full moon hunt together."

The pack howled their approval as my world imploded. Mates' retreat. The traditional precursor to a marking ceremony.

*BETRAYAL!* Selene roared inside me, her pain slicing through my chest like claws.

The bracelet burned against my palm as hot tears blurred my vision. Five years of loyalty, sacrifice, and love—discarded for a pretty face who'd been here mere months.

Without conscious thought, I stepped forward. The crowd parted, conversations dying as they noticed my advance. Ryan's smile faltered as I approached, his eyes widening with the sudden realization of what he'd done.

"Madison—" he began, but I was already pulling the Luna bracelet from my pocket.

"Five years," I whispered, my voice carrying in the sudden silence. "Five years I waited for you to acknowledge what I am to you."

I hurled the bracelet at his feet, the silver metal glinting as it landed in the dirt before him. Selene howled in agony within me, the sound escaping my human throat as a broken sob.

"I'm done waiting," I declared, turning my back on him and the future I'd foolishly believed in.

As I stormed away from the ceremony, from the pack, from him, I felt something inside me harden into resolve. No more shadows. No more secrets. No more sacrifices for a man who couldn't even sacrifice his pride for me.

Selene's grief transformed into something else—something fierce and determined. *We deserve better,* she growled. *And we will find it.*

On the day Adelyn and Miles were supposed to finalize their mate rejection, she was struck with sudden, excruciating stomach pain. “What’s the matter? Can’t keep up the act anymore?” Miles sneered, his towering frame looming over her, his muscular arms crossed in a display of dominance. His voice dripped with condescension, his rank as a Gamma giving him an air of superiority that he wielded like a weapon. “If you don’t actually want to reject the bond, just admit it. The cold stone floor bit into my knees as I scrubbed another stubborn stain from the pack house entrance. My hands, once soft and manicured as befitted a Luna, were now cracked and raw from three years of menial labor. The harsh lye soap burned the cuts on my knuckles, but I didn't pause. I couldn't afford to. "Move, Omega." The dismissive voice belonged to Sarah, a Delta's daughter who once curtsied when she saw me. Now she stepped over my outstretched arm without a second glance, her designer boots tracking mud across the section I'd just cleaned. I bit back the sharp retort that rose in my throat. *Patience,* I reminded myself. *This is temporary. Once Gideon recovers from losing his wolf, once the pack sees his strength return, everything will go back to how it was.* But as I watched Sarah's retreating figure, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the polished marble wall.
