Chapter 2

The woman froze when she saw the knife in my hand. She no longer clung to Kevin, acting all seductive, and didn't dare approach me. Instead, she took a step back, hiding behind Kevin.

Kevin’s eyes shifted nervously, clearly sobering up.

But pride wouldn't let him back down. His face flushed with anger and humiliation, he took a step back, but still tried to act fearless. “Elena, come on, go ahead and chop! You’ve really lost it now, want to kill your husband? Well, I’ll see about that.”

I watched the woman behind him, who gave him an adoring look.

I kept a cold expression, and without hesitation, swung the knife at him.

But unfortunately, I missed. The blade sliced through the air, cutting a piece of his jacket.

I sneered. “Don’t you want to fight? Come on. Kevin, you’ve really changed. I’ve been married to you for five years, cooking, cleaning, taking care of your parents, and now you bring another woman home to beat me? Come on, let's fight this out today.”

Kevin's face went stiff, and his hand slowly retracted.

The woman behind him saw the shift in momentum and immediately let go of Kevin, turning to flee, not forgetting to slam the living room door shut behind her.

I didn't care about that. My eyes were fixed on Kevin.

He probably felt embarrassed, and once again, his face turned red with rage as he shouted, "Elena, you want to go to the extreme, huh? I’ll make sure you’ll obey me today."

As he spoke, he lunged forward to snatch the knife from my hand.

He looked so fearless. Ha!

I swung blindly, fueled by both fresh and old grudges, eyes shut tight.

The sound of the blade swishing through the air echoed, and I opened my eyes.

I missed again!

But Kevin had already closed in on me.

A sharp slap landed across my face.

My right ear rang, my head snapped sideways, and the sting was unbearable.

Kevin had no intention of holding back.

I squeezed my eyes shut and forced down the emptiness in my heart.

Filled with resentment, I swung the knife once more.

The next second, a blood-curdling scream pierced the air.

Kevin’s arm was bleeding profusely.

Despite the hatred inside me, seeing so much blood for the first time made my legs feel weak.

By now, Kevin was completely sober, and he was crying out in pain, "Elena, what the hell are you doing? Are you really trying to kill me? Hurry, take me to the hospital! Ah… it hurts like hell…”

He pressed his hand to the wound, trying to stem the bleeding.

For a brief moment, I hesitated. I really didn’t want to help him. I almost wanted to let him bleed out and die.

But then, a cold clarity took over—this wound wasn’t fatal. He wouldn’t bleed to death from this.

In just a few seconds, I turned around, grabbed a towel to press against the wound, and swiftly grabbed my phone and keys to take Kevin to the hospital.

The bill would be settled later.

The debt? That would be repaid in full.

...

The wound wasn’t too deep, but it definitely wasn’t shallow either—thankfully, no bone was visible.

After a round of tests, they confirmed it hadn’t damaged the bone, but he would need stitches.

The doctor working the night shift kept glancing at me, eventually unable to resist speaking quietly, “In a marriage, what can't be resolved through conversation? Why resort to violence? If things really go south, you’ll regret it too late.”

I lowered my gaze, remaining silent.

Seeing my response, the doctor sighed again. “If something really happens, you’ll still be held legally accountable.”

I raised my eyes and nodded lightly. "I understand. I won’t be so excessive in the future. It’s just… he was drunk..."

The doctor paused, shook his head, and didn't say another word.

Without anesthesia, Kevin screamed like a child while they stitched him up. His yelling annoyed the doctor, who shot him a cold glare. “You’re a grown man! It’s just a few stitches. Stop acting like this.”

Kevin immediately went silent, but his body trembled in quiet sobs, and it was oddly satisfying to watch.

Once the stitches were done, Kevin immediately started dialing his phone, calling anyone he could, with one main message: I stabbed him, and now he’s at the hospital.

What a character, calling people at five in the morning.

I saw the flood of calls from his relatives and quickly turned off my phone.

Since I had kept a cold expression the entire time, Kevin didn’t dare speak to me.

That is, until the doctor told us we could go home.

I turned to leave, but Kevin grabbed my sleeve. “Elena, I’m sorry.”

He apologized quickly, just like every other time.

I closed my eyes, forcing down the rage inside me, and turned to help him. “Actually, I was wrong too…”

Let’s see who can act better.

As we walked out of the hospital, the sky had started to lighten, the first hints of dawn breaking through.

It was like the countless sleepless nights that had turned into dawn.
